C#. : Custom Validator (ValueToCompare & ControlToValidate Property Errors) / How To Fix It
Jun 22, 2010
I've searched a fair bit round and tried a number of potential solutions, suggested on their respective threads on various sites, to which none have worked for me.
My objective is to make sure the date entered, and to be stored, is not 'less than' (before) the present datei.e. Booking a reservation for a restaurant.
The first is:
"The ControlToValidate property of 'cvDate' cannot be blank..."
I've tried specifying it in page_load and .aspx source, the same has happened in both, in addition to ValueToCompare. I cant understand why it cant detect it?
C# (ControltoValidate):

<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" />
<asp:CustomValidator ID="CustomValidator1" runat="server"
ClientValidationFunction="ValidationFunction1"
ControlToValidate="TextBox1"
Display="Dynamic" />
And a validationFunction:
function ValidationFunction1(sender, args)
{
}
And i would like to know if, inside the function I could get the Control to validate something like: var v = sender.ControlToValidate;

I have quite a few text area's on my page and am wanting to limit the number of characters for each one. However each one should be able to have its own maxlength (i.e. one could be 20 characters and the other could be 100 characters). My validation on the page is all done using custom validation as the built in validation of .NET is not extensible enough for me to display my validation errors how I want to display them. So this is what im wanting to do:
Make a custom validatorPass a MaxLength value from the custom validator into the javascript function, this value must also be accessible from the code behindI can then run client side and server side validation on each textbox control. The problem I am having is passing a MaxLength value to client side script and to server side. Is there a property on custom validators which I can use to pass values around? For instance in Javascript I would want the value of the MaxLength and also the id of the Div which will show the characters remaining, and server side I would need to know the MaxLength. I have done lots of research on this and cannot seem to find an answer.

I'm using the following code to iterate through a list of validators on the page. For each validator, I want to set the background color for the control its responsible for validating. The problem I'm having is that FindControl method is always returning null. From searching the web, it appears the problem is that the page has a master page. Whether this is the issue or not, it's obvious that the FindControl method cannot find the ControlToValidate control.
Method used to iterate all validators on a page:
protected void ShowControlsToValidate(Page page)
{
if (page == null)
return;

I have a textbox in a composite control and I would like to validate this textbox by the composite control I created. But how can I do that? How can I create the custom validator instance that is linked to the custom validator I created?

I have a C# web forms ASP.NET 4.0 web application that uses Routing for URLs for some reason custom errors defined in the system.web section of my web.config is entirely ignored and it will fall back the IIS errors.
This gets entirely ignored
[code]....
This would be a minor inconvenience except that by the fact it falls back to IIS native instead of my application it completely circumvents Elmah logging my 404 exceptions correctly.

I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.

Here's my Application_OnError event sink in global.asax.vb:
Sub Application_OnError(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim innerMostException As Exception = getInnerMostException(Me.Context.Error)
If TypeOf innerMostException Is AccessDeniedException Then
Security.LogAccessDeniedOccurrence(DirectCast(innerMostException, AccessDeniedException))
Dim fourOhThree As Integer = DirectCast(HttpStatusCode.Forbidden, Integer)
Throw New HttpException(fourOhThree, innerMostException.Message, innerMostException)
End If
End Sub
You'll see that if we've got an innermost Exception of type AccessDeniedException we throw a new HTTPExcpetion with a status code of 403 AKA 'forbidden'
Here's the relevant web.config entry:
<customErrors defaultRedirect="~/Application/ServerError.aspx" mode="On">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="~/Secure/AccessDenied.aspx" />
</customErrors>
So what we're expecting is a redirect to the AccessDenied.aspx page. What we get is a redirect to the ServerError.aspx page.
We've also tried this:
Sub Application_OnError(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim innerMostException As Exception = getInnerMostException(Me.Context.Error)
If TypeOf innerMostException Is AccessDeniedException Then
Security.LogAccessDeniedOccurrence(DirectCast(innerMostException, AccessDeniedException))
Context.Response.StatusCode = DirectCast(HttpStatusCode.Forbidden, Integer)
End If
End Sub
Which unsuprisingly doesn't work either.

I've been trying to get a custom validator component working that ensures at least one checkbox from a checkboxlist has been checked. I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Basically, I compile the below code into a DLL and add it to my bin folder.

So what I'm trying to accomplish is this
[Code]....
The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.
For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.

Curious what the best practice is for returning errors to a view from a controller where the error isn't really a validation error, but more like "user not found" or "service timeout" type of errors. (in ASP.NET MVC2 framework)
I've been adding them to the ModelState's model errors, but that doesn't seem appropriate. (although easy to implement and maintain)
Example - A user tries to log in, and their credentials do not match a known user.

I have a custom control, inherited from Button. This is the class definition for the control and 2 properties:
[Code]....
I show you 2 properties, only to illustrate the problem.
as you see Aplicacion property is of a custom type Sistema, and Roles property is of type List<UserRol>.
The Aplicacion property is rendered well, this way:
[Code]....
The problem I have is with List<UserRol>. I couldn't get it to be rendered. I expeect to be rendered this way:
[Code]....
Finally, this is the TypeConverter and Editor definitions for the list:
[Code]....
The UserRol class is a typical class, without any special attributes.
I have discovered that when I use the custom editor for Roles property, the collection is not persisted. When I use the default editor for the collection, the collection is persisted.

I need to create one custom text box control which should be bind with data base.
I am referring following link...
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.databoundcontrol.aspx
I used DataBoundControl to create my control but i am not able to do it properly.
public class SimpleTextBoxControl : DataBoundControl
{
private TextBox nameTextBox;
public string DataTextField
{
get
{
object o = ViewState["DataTextField"];
return ((o == null) ? string.Empty : (string)o);
}
set
{
ViewState["DataTextField"] = value;
}
}
[
Bindable(true),
Category("Data"),
DefaultValue(""),
Description("The text to display on the link."),
Localizable(true),
PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerDefaultProperty)
]
public virtual string DataTexValue
{
get
{
string s = (string)ViewState["Text"];
return (s == null) ? String.Empty : s;
}
set
{
ViewState["Text"] = value;
}
}
protected override void PerformDataBinding(IEnumerable retrievedData)
{
if (retrievedData == null)
return;
base.PerformDataBinding(retrievedData);
Controls.Clear();
nameTextBox = new TextBox { ID = "nameTextBox" };
foreach (object dataItem in retrievedData)
{
if (DataTextField.Length > 0)
{
nameTextBox.Text = DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(dataItem, DataTextField, null);
}
DataTexValue = nameTextBox.Text;
}
this.Controls.Add(nameTextBox);
}
}
