Child Properties Not Initialised Automatically With RIA?

Feb 2, 2011

Within my project I have created an Entity Data Model, complete with relationship links between the various tables. I notice when I do so, Visual Studio automatically creates a property named after this link.

I have then generated a Domain Service Class based on this data model, and once again within this a property is generated representing the link, ie within my ChemicalApplication class there is a Chemical property of type Chemical.

The trouble is, within the silverlight client, I can access the ChemicalApplication data object no bother, and can see the ChemicalApplication.Chemical property, but as soon as I try to access it, I recieve an error that the property is not initialised.

Do these auto-generated child properties not automatically initialise? If not, how do i manually assign a value to them within the RIA Domain Service?

Initiate Properties Automatically Using StructureMap

Oct 18, 2010

If i have N numbers of classes on each of them i am declaring for example property which contains some app setting values from config file.

public static IAppSettings AppSettings { get; set; }

I want to populate this property automatically when class is created.

I am thinking to achieve this goal using StructureMap.

I want to "say" somehow only in one place, that if class contain this property populate it.

ASP.NET/ASP.NET MVC, ConsoleApp/WinForms

C# - How To Inject To All Child Objects Automatically

Jun 30, 2010

Consider this abstract class

public abstract class Foo
{
public Injectable Prop {get;set;}
}

i have an application that i want to enhance and simultaneously refactor for simplicity.

I have over 100 classes that call some same stuff (e.g Class Injectable) and i am thinking that this behaviour can be abstracted and set to a base class, and everybody will inherit from this base class so as to remove copy/paste code.

However, i want to avoid copy/paste code in the spring configuration file by defining an Injectable object and then define a child object foreach and every class that inherits from Foo.

I am looking for a way to set the abstract class's properties and then all child elements to automatically get them via configuration. I want to avoid to make the abstract class like this:

Execute LINQ Query Using Properties Of Child Entity Set

Nov 25, 2010

I am having a meltdown over something that seems so simple and yet isn't working. Here's my scenario.

I have an object structure of tEvents, which contains properties of an event like a run of concerts. tEvents in turn contains an entity set of tEventOptions, which include properties like EventDate, Cancelled etc. I would like to query a list of tEvents using properties of the tEventOptions, for example filtering by date.

My pageis using a calendar object to show event dates. So I am trying to find if any tEvents in the List coming back from the database match the date of the day element being rendered in my Calendar control like so (in this snip 'data' is List and results from a db query):

[code]....

Except r, my query result var, is always true no matter what data it receives. I have tried the sub query using other properties of tEventOption and get the same 'true' result each time. I know that the data does not reflect this result so I clearly have a problem with the structure of my query, but for the life of me I cannot find a way to resolve it.

Masterpage - Accessing Pager Public Properties In Child Page

Sep 28, 2010

I'm embarrassed to ask this here because it's clearly been duplicated several times already on StackOverflow. I've read a lot of stuff including:

[URL]

I think I've done exactly what those article say, but it's not working for me.

Here's the top of my master page, named "MasterNoNews.master":

[code]....

In the first case, VS is telling me System.Web.Ui.MasterPage does not contain a definition for urrentUser. In the second case, VS says the type or namespace 'MasterNoNews' could not be found.

C# - Settings Properties Of A Child In A Composite Control In An .aspx Page

Feb 28, 2011

I've got a composite control (class) that exposes an asp:Label through a get-property. Is is possible to set the Text property of the Label through aspx-code?

I'd like to do something like this:
<cfw:MyCompositeControl runat="server" Label.Text="Test" />

One solution is adding each property to the composite class (like a public LabelText), but I'd like to set any property of any child control. So as new features of child controls become available, I'd like to be able to use them on my composite control. So basically I would like to set any property of the exposed child control.

How To Expose Child Control Style Properties In A Custom Composite WebControl

Feb 23, 2010

I am writing a custom composite WebControl and want to expose styles of child controls it encapsulates to the ASP.NET designer. The code I currently have is similar to the skeleton below (which for simplicity only has one child control).

With the code below, I can see property "ChildPanelStyle" in the designer, but when I try to modify one of the properties (e.g. CssClass) in the designer, it immediately resets itself to its default value. It looks like the designer serialization isn't happening.

What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE

I've updated the sample with an additional style property that is managed directly by the custom control, rather than simply being the property of a child control.

The HeaderStyle property is persisted properly by the designer, but the ChildPanelStyle property isn't.

Of course I could manage all my styles like HeaderStyle, and apply them during rendering, but I'm hoping there's a simpler solution whereby child controls can take care of themselves, and I don't need any custom rendering.

User Control's Elements Not Getting Initialised When Added Dynamically?

Jun 30, 2010

I've got a custom ASP.Net web user control I've built; done this enough times before but this one is misbehaving and I can't spot why.

Where the calling page includes the user control directly in its markup, all is well and the control behaves as expected.

However if the page adds this particular control dynamically (to a placeholder in the master page, which is what's calling this whole thing) the elements within it stay firmly NULL - nothing from the user control gets written to the client at all, including static content within the user control.

Why Aren't All Controls Initialised At The Event Handling Point Of The Page Lifecycle

Jan 29, 2010

I have a user control embedded in a web part. It has the following snippets of code:

Why are some controls initialised and others not? How do I get around this if I'd like to update the Text property on currentPageLabel?

Update:

I've placed breakpoints all the way through the page life cycle and found that nextButton and currentPageLabel are never initialised. The breakpoints were placed at OnLoad, CreateChildControls, goButton_Click, OnPreRender, Render and OnUnload.

VS 2010 - Master / Child Page Layout - Embed Third Party Website As Child Page

Aug 29, 2011

I have a web application that uses the master/child page layout you get by default (at least in a VS2010 web project). The Masterpage has a NavigationMenu, each item on that NavigationMenu has a NavigateUrl that looks like "~/Pages/MyPage.aspx". This automatically opens 'MyPage' in the Content of the Masterpage, so that the master page with menu and header etc stays visible.

Now, the client has a guestbook on her old website (I'm basically rebuilding her website, adding the ability for her to upload new content in her browser), and she wants to keep it. This guestbook is from a 'free guestbook' third party website, over which I have no control. It's simply a website in the form [URL] .... which shows the guestbook for a user 'Username'.

In her old website, I was using frames, so the menu on the left side was in a different frame, and I would simply open the third party website in the center frame. That would create the illusion that the guestbook was on her site, while it was actually a completely different website in a separate frame.

In my new website I'm no longer using frames, but the master/child layout as explained. Is it still possible to 'host' or 'embed' this third party website as a 'child' of the master page?

I tried just putting the url to the guestbook in the NavigateUrl of a NavigationMenu item, but that doesn't work, it just navigates to the third party website and doesn't embed it in any way.
