Configuration :: Compiled Web Application Still Contains .aspx Markup Files?

May 5, 2010

I want to publish my web application as a single .dll file without all the source code and .aspx markup pages.

I am using VS 2010 with the "Web Deployment Project" add-in. In the compilation settings, I unchecked "make this site updatable" because I want the .aspx files to be compiled as well.

Publishing my web application using the publish feature in VS 2010 works fine, and a single .dll file is created in the "bin" directory.

But all the .aspx markup files are still copied to the web server! I've read that those files are merely marker files which can be deleted, but not in my case. They still contain the whole markup and when I delete them, my application won't run anymore.

It's like I had checked the "make this site updatable" option, but I haven't!

Does Code In Aspx Page Get Compiled In A Web Application?

Jan 17, 2011

Does code in an .aspx page (in between <% %> tags) get compiled in a web application or is it treated like markup where you can just change it without recompiling the solution? Does compiling only compile the code behind code in the .cs and designer.cs files ?

Configuration :: Web Application Is Compiled At Run-time?

Aug 9, 2010

I'm using "VS 2010 Ultimate" "Web Application" project.

The problem is that web application compilation occurs at run-time.

My steps:

1) change Wep Application source code (*.cs files)

2) rebuild "Web Application" in Visual Studio

3) run web site's(mapped under IIS 7.5) start page via browser

4) Problem: CSC.EXE starts compiling wep application for the second time! Despite I've done it on step 2)

What should I do to escape step 4) ? I don't need re-compilation at run-time!

I've tried "to play" with <compilation batch="false" but it seems to be ignored.

Determine Name Of Compiled Dll Files From .cs Files In Project?

Jan 7, 2011

I am doing a code review of a web project and want to make sure I have all the compiled dll's. I was provided only three .dll files for static analysis but wonder if I am missing any because when I looked at the actual code base and project it contained 20 various .cs files. All that I have opened shared a single namespace, but what was odd was the namespace was not the name of any of the .dll files. How does .net compile the application in the dlls that are found in the /bin folder? how does it get the names of the dlls? How do namespaces fit into this?

Is this some sort of cache problem ? We have tried to delete the browser cache. but it had no effect.

Configuration :: Uploading Only Aspx And Dll Files To Server?

Jun 2, 2010

I have made an application for some customer that I'm going to transfer to a webhotel.I want to make sure that the application is not copied and used elsewhere without my knowledge. So I have thought of stripping the aspx files from their code behind, that is not the aspx.cs file itself. But from all code inside the cs file, not the one that is automatically generated like page_load etc, but everything else. And when done, then just upload the compiled DLL file(s). Does this work? Are there something to be mindful of if I carry out with this plan.

Configuration :: File Permissions For .aspx Files On Windows Server 2008?

Jul 7, 2010

I am running a web-site with simple .aspx files on a standalone workgroup Windows Server 2008 called 'Max'.I had assumed that the .aspx files were accessed by the 'Network Service' account. The application pool for the website is running with 'Network Service' as the process account.I was puzzled, since 'Network Service' had no permission on these files. So I added event level auditing to the files, and I was suprised to learn that the .aspx files were being accessed by an account called Max$ (ie the computer account).this correct ?Why is the Network Service account not being used ??

How To Add A Custom .aspx Into Already Compiled Website

Jan 28, 2011

We have a company product (asp.net website) that gets compiled and distributed to our clients. I need to figure out a way to allow us to add in an ad hoc aspx webpage into the website (so it recognizes the master page, the forms authentication, assemblies, etc) without having to provide them with an un-compiled version of the website product. Is this possible. Is there a better method than having a special compiled version of the website on their server.

How To Place Aspx-files In Separate Web Application Projects In One Solution

Oct 21, 2010

We have been building ASP.Net websites for many years. During this time we gathered a lot of knowledge of ASP.Net. We know what to use, a what not. One problem is still, persistently, bugging us. I hope to solve this for once and for all.

We have a fairly large solution with lots of aspx-files. All aspx-files reside in one Web Application Project. This single big WAP needs to be split in multiple smaller projects.

There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but I am still unsure what the best way would be. We use ASP.Net 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010 Premium.

This is our current work-around (which we do not like)

File Name Generation Rule For Pre Compiled Files

App_Web_accountbalance.aspx.dfa151d5.dll

Do you know the rule for the random chars (in bold) above? Can we fix the random chars? The reason to fix it is that if we modify AccountBalance.aspx file later and re-compile the web site, can we just replace App_Web_accountbalance.aspx.dfa151d5.dll.

Visual Studio :: Host Server Says Uploaded Files Are Not Compiled?

Sep 17, 2010

I recently published my website locally and then uploaded the .aspx files to the root directory of the host server and then uploaded all of the compiled files into a new "bin" subdirectory. But, when I accessed my website through my domain name, I got an error message that said that my Default web page has not been compiled.

The service that I am using is an ASP.NET hosted server called JodoHost. But I noticed that, besides the new "bin" subdirectory that I put all of my compiled files into, there was also subdirectories named aspnet_client, cgi-bin, and images. I assume that my problem stems from not placing my compiled files into these. Is this correct? If so, what should I be placing into which directories?
