Configuration :: MVC 2.0 Installation And VS 2008 SP1?

We need to get MVC 2.0 installed on multiple servers. When we use the exe file AspNetMVC2_VS2008.exe to install MVC 2.0 it checks for prereqs. One of the prereqs ins VS 2008 SP1.
Now when we use the MSI file AspNetMVC2.msi to do the installation, MVC 2.0 is installed without complaining about VS 2008 SP1.
The exe file checks for prereqs, while the msi doesn't.
My questions is, do we really need VS 2008 SP1 installed along side MVC 2.0? If so why?

Ive recently got a new development machine with windows 7 64 bit. On loading up a website and opening default.aspx, the whole ide just freezes. Nothing responds, I have to shut it down from the task manager. This happens every time (ive tried it 4 times so far)The site was fine on my old machine (windows xp 32 bit) are there any compatibility issues with windows 7 64 bit and vs 2008 ?

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to SQL, and to be honest it frightens the hell out of me too.
I've been running a version of SQL 2008 Express for sometime, however after getting some free software off Microsoft I updated my version of Visual Studio to professional and then tried to update my Express version of SQL to 2008 R1.
I downloaded it from the MS site and proceeded to work through the pre-installation instructions, however I wasn't offered the opportunity of installing a new instance and was then advised there was nothing to upgrade on the version I had installed.
When I go into SQL management studio I can see the database I used to be able to access but can't expand it. My version of SQL is 10.0.2531.whats happening or how to work around it?

While trying to download Visual web developer from HERE I get an error message about downloading visual C++ 2008 sp1 first. I go ahead and download it from HERE, but still no luck launching the program.Here is a pic of the error message.

My previous development PC was running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. My new PC has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. My Solution contains 3 projects. The Solution has been converted from VWD 2008 to 2010 fine. There are no errors when I build either of the projects. One of them is not working though. My company is looking to upgrade the web server from Server 2003 to 2008 (along with IIS of course). Currenty the websites are built using ASP.NET 3.5 (and a blog in PHP), is there anything that needs to be done to ensure the sites (forget the blog) still work on the new server? I'll no doubt upgrade the sites over time to use .Net 4 or MVC, but for the moment the transition needs to be almost seamless.

I just completed converting my vs 2005 web app to Vs 2008. Question:After I make changes to the app and before I move the changes out to our web server, what must I consider for the web server?1) During conversion I allowed the project to convert from 2.0 framework to 3.5. On the web server, I assume it needs to be upgraded to 3.5 as well. Can I upgrade directly from a site or would you recommend I install VS 2008 on the web server as well (which comes with 3.5)? 2) Do I need to change the application name or virtual name on the web server or can I keep it the same?

I am in the process of migrating the ASP.Web Application from .NET framework 1.1 to 3.5.
I installed the VS 2008 (framework 3.5 SP1) and was able to rebuild the ASP.NET web app from 1.1.
I downoladed the AJAX Toll Kit library from codeplex [URL]
I was able to add the AJAX Toolkit tab in my VS 2008 tool box.
I am using the AutoComplete serach extender which works fine when I use the Ajax Tool Kit Script manager.
When I use the Ajax Extension Script Manager in place of Ajak ToolKit Script manager I get an error "
AjaxControlToolkit requires ASP.NET Ajax 4.0 scripts. Ensure the correct version of the scripts are referenced. If you are using an ASP.NET ScriptManager, switch to the AjaxScriptManager in System.Web.Ajax.dll, or use the ToolkitScriptManager in AjaxControlToolkit.dll.
