Is the ASPNETDB.MDF ok for a production environment? or for small websites? Some sites will only have a few users(under 1 or 2) just for simple administration.

Also now its possible for users to enter the sites without login .. they can select the options in the menu and access them ... But i want to restrict the users ..only allow them to access the menu componets after login ... If they tries to access the contents a text have to display ask them to login

Is anyone able to see Web Site --> ASP.NET Configuration if you are creating a web application using File --> New Project --> Visual C# --> Web. If so, how and where?
Base on what I've tried, the menu Web Site --> ASP.Net Configuration appears only if you create a website by File --> New Website.
What I am actually trying to find is the Web Site Administration Tool (WSAT).
I recently installed VWDE 2010 and SQLE 2008 R2 and have built a basic site, but when I try to launch the Web Site Administration Tool, it fails to come up in a browser window. The server starts and I can right click on that and choose "Open in Web Browser", but when I do that an error message immediately shows up saying, an error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again with no other information given. When I click on "How do I Use this Tool?" in the top-right corner of the window, it immediately says the following:
Tool Has Timed Out
As a security measure, the Web Site Administration Tool times out after a period of inactivity. Changes to machine.config or web.config may also result in the tool needing to be restarted. To continue configuring your web site, restart the tool. The same message immediately comes up no matter what tab I click on. I have searched the internet and have made sure that the path doesn't have any spaces or non-alphabetic characters, run aspnet_regsql, restarted the IDE as well as the computer, but nothing works.
I am having some trouble getting a second site to work with SSL in IIS 6. The server is Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
I am getting the error "IIS was unable to start the site, Another site may already be using the port you configured for this site. Please select an unused port"
Both sites have different IP address but are on port 443.
When I stop one - I can start the other. But cannot run both at the same time.
I have tried editing MetaBase.xml file as a workaround but the file seems to be readonly. When I go to save, I get prompted to create a file.
I found an article which explains how to perform a Web.config transformation on an ASP.Net 4.0 Web Site, but all of my web sites are still running ASP.Net 3.5.[URL]
View 1 RepliesI am currently working on multiple group sites for the same parent company. All the sites are basically the same, and share the same code base however they have different stylesheets, master pages and config files.
As the number of sites is increasing I am finding it difficult to keep the sites synchronised and propagate bug fixes/changes across them all as each has it's own copy of the code.
Does anyone know of a way I could keep a single master copy of the site and easily propogate changes to each of the other sites.
I am adding a 2nd web site to our pubic server and am noticing the SMTP delivery trying to use the default SMTP Virtual Server which is set up for the 1st web.
I created a 2nd virtual server with new smart host and credentials for the new site but need to modify the config file.
I tried using the host name = smtp virtual server 2 name.
Both webs use relay to a host for delivery
Here is my config file

I figured it out. Sometimes you just have to ask someone the question. I changed the network to IP address 192.168.56.11 instead of name of server.
ie <network host="192.168.55.11" />
I have three asp.net 2.0 websites running on the same host server and recently upgraded to 3.5. After making changes necessary in the root web.config all sites run, but I've lost the stylesheet for the primary site.
Before the upgrade I had the following in the root web.config
<pages styleSheetTheme="Red" />
I got errors on this line because the upgraded web.config had another <pages> section. I tried adding the stylesheetTheme='Red" to that section and the primary website ran and looked right, but the subs got an error that there was no StyleSheetTheme="Red".
Each site has it's own stylesheets. How can I restore the stylesheettheme to the primary site without putting it in the root webconfig? Or, is there another way to handle this?

View 12 RepliesI am looking to create a simple windows program that would allow users to calculate their holiday entitlement based on a few simple rules (length of service, job grade, % full-time). Users would use drop-down lists to select their relevant fields, and the holiday entitlement would be calculated from the values given. For example, someone at job grade '1' with 2 years of service gets 25 days a year, whilst someone else on job grade '1' with 4 years service gets 28 days. Is this sort of program possible in Visual Studio 2008?

Others were web sites that were actually created with VS 2005 or 2008. All these older sites reside in the C:Inetpubwwwroot folder of my present development computer, with only the .sln and the .suo files residing in the project folder. Right now I have all of my domains go to the root directory and Response.Redirect() to a sub-directory which leaves me with mydomain.com/subdir/. Is there a way to make my own pointer to eliminate the /subdir/ portion of the URL?

iam trying to make a web program that consist on marking days for vacation. my problem is this: when put the login and password and press the login button everything work great on vs2010. when i copy the prrogram to the iis 7 i put the username and password and when i press the login button nothing append. is like the button as no action.

View 1 RepliesI've done a very basic asp.net test page that populates dinamically (with items from 0 to 99) an asp:listbox on the onload event (only once, if not ispostback).
The asp:listbox is static, and there's an asp:button that I use only to produce a postback (it has no onclick server code)
When I execute it under II6 it works perfecty, but under IIS7 I get a strange behaviour: every now and then, when I push the asp:button, the page freezes and it's unable to postback.
I don't get a specific asp.net error as usual, just a blank page as if the website didn't exist!
The message is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I have developed a website in asp.net framework 2 . This website is being hosted in two different servers without any change in code. My issue is about the performance of these 2 sites. One website is taking much time for inserting datas to the DB (SQL server 2005). 2 websites are having different DB server.
I think the issue is for the DB server. How can we rectify the DB performance while insertion and Is there any other cause for this permance issue?

It's works fine in development environment, the problem is when I've published this app into IIS, I can't get the users to login. I've configured the directory security to Anonimous Access since the user will enter the credentials using forms auth.
I have hosted an application on my local system and people on company intranet will be accessing that. I have windowxp SP3. I have heard from someone that only a limited no. of users( around 20) can access my application if I am hosting it on XP.
View 4 RepliesI changed the 'applicationName' attribute of all the providers in the web.config file from its default value of "/" to an actual name "/sampleName" and I have also changed it in the aspnet_applications table in the asp.net database.
Now users cant login... Why?

Some say that they are not able to navigate because the site is too slow.
Moreover others say that they loose their session frequently while still surfing the site.
i've tried searching the net for this but really can't find much at all. i have created a website in visual web 2005 with sql express 2005. i have uploaded the website and altered the connection string and can connect to the database on the server, but now users can't log in The login control tells me when I've entered the wrong details, so it's doing something right, but if I enter the right credentials it eventually just throws back an error (Server Error in '/' Application.). I'm guessing it's something to do with the membership section in the web.config but can't quite work out where. I've altered the connectionstringname to the one that points to the database on the server and the application name in the table on the db is "/" so now I'm at a loss.
