DataSource Controls :: While Adding LINQ To SQL Class - Empty Use Option
Feb 4, 2010
I am new to LINQ but not >net. I do understand SQLDataSource, etc. I was just told by a coworker not to use a LINQ to SQL Class for my new project (Bank.dbml). I was told to use instead the ADO.Net Entity Data Model (bank.edmx).
BankModel.edmxBank.dbml
When only using ADO.Net Entity Data Model I try to associate a GridView with a new LinqDataSource I get no options. When I add a LINQ to SQL Class I get the option to use it but it is empty. Is this because all my LINQ classes are mapped in the ADO.Net Entity Data Model (bank.edmx)? Can someone tell me (or point me to) what the differences are in these two?
I have a gridview with two textboxes (first name & last name) and a linkbutton to search results inside the gridview.
I have made select parameters as well and the search works if i write in both textboxes. However, if I leave one textbox blank, i don't get any results.
[code]...
How can I get results from searching only one textbox?
I have just started using LINQ with VS2008. I have added extra columns to my table, saved the changes, but class ClassName.Designer.CS didn't get updated. What do I have to do to updated the class? Do I have to do it manually, or is there a way to automatically synchronize tables and ClassName.Designer.CS?
I have a table added to a dbml file in my website. The website is already deployed to Live server. Now I have been instructed to a add a new field to the table. The field will be defaulted as getdate().
I don't plan to modify my dbml file for this change since the filed holds a default value. Will it cause any issue(performance related or any other). I am sure that I will not have to use the newly added field in the website. I am new to LINQ.
Is it possible to add attributes in a linq query along with the other object data?
Here's what I have
[Code]....
But I'd like to add a custom attribute to each RadComboBoxItemData object in the query instead of having to do a foreach loop after the linq query to add the attributes on..
In Entity framework I have a class which is effectively
fooEntity { public Guid Id {get; set;} and a collection of fooChildEntity } a fooChildEntity is again an entityframework class fooChildEntity { public Guid kidId {get; set;} }
Now I also have a pair of business layer classes foo and fooChild
foo { public Guid Id {get; set;} ilist<fooChild> Children {get;set;} } fooChild { public Guid kidId {get; set;} }
My aim is to write a linq to entites that will allow me to convert the entity foo and children into the business foo and children without breaking deferred execution ( I will be adding filters to reduce the recordset at a higher coding level in the business layer)
doing something like
this.context.fooEntity
.include(fooChildEntity)
.Select( fe => new foo { Id=fe.Id ,
fe.foreach(fec => Children.add( new fooChild { kidId = fec.kidId}))})
.AsIQueryable()
is plainly rubbish and would never compile - it is however an indication of the direction I was thinking .
Even if I got a foreach to work like that or similar it would break deferred execution
At this point there are around 300,000 foo entities which I will eventualy filter to 5 or 6 foo's - this is why deferred execution is needed.
I have a listview that is displaying records currently based on a dropdown.. works great.. now, within those results returned, i would like to filter down some more.. How can i add a dropdownlist to the page that is populated with data from the listview(only 1 field would be used to create the list ) and if you chose to filter by that drop down, then the listview is revised to display only records with the selected value.
Example..
Currently you pick from a drop down.. Report#1, Report#2 or Report#3 Say report#1 returns 100 records.. and the field im going to be filtering on is my "Vendor" field.. so once my listview displays my results, a dropdownlist is populated with all the vendors that were returned with the query.. could just be a few..
Now you are sitting there paging thru all the records.. and realize you really just need to see out of the 100 records, records that belong to Vendor#3, so you pick #3 from the drop downlist and the procedure is called again now filtering on that vendor..
I am writing a plugin to help with a current ERP system we have that I am not allowed to modify the data structure at all. The table I am dealing with has over 100 columns and I am wanting to set my linq object propertychanged event and submitchanges or do I really have list out each property and set it equal to the new one?Below is an example of what I am trying to do:
Like that I have large number of controls on my form. I have dought, if I assigned like this, db.usp_ATI_FetchPatientDetails(iPatientID).ElementAt(0).Last_Name.ToString(); to every control, then I have set of controls like,
My question is that, for each control the Stored Procedure called or not? If it is yes then it is time consuming and I need to use LINQ to DataSet or LINQ to Object rather than to call SP for each control. What is difference between LINQ to DataSet and LINQ to Object?
have a dropdownlist (ddl2) which is dependent on the selected value of another dropdownlist (ddl1).I have set the appendatabounditems to "true" for ddl2 and have added a "Please Select" and a "Select All" options. The Options show in the list when the page first loads. When ddl1 is selected the page refreshes and ddl2 is populated, however the "Please Select" and "Select All" options have disappeared.
i have one table and structure of table is like.Now i need to fetch the Resturant Name and status of Resturant ( whether it is closed or open by comparing the opening time and closingTime with currentTime).
I have SqlDataSource with a few parameters (code below). If I understand this code correctly if parameter is NULL I should receive all items from the query. It works fine with query editor. But when I try to use this query on my page - with DropDownList and Textbox controls as source of parameters - it doesn't work. I suspect that main reason of problem is value which these controls pass to the query. Instead of NULL this is an empty string. Is it possible to pass NULL value from DropDownList or TextBox to the SqlDataSource?
To demonstrate that I could even use a Class attribute on an option elem I tried adding class attributes to options of a select elem in a static page and that works fine. I noticed that not many online resouces documented this so I figured I would explicitly set the record.
here is the jquery code attempting to add a class to the selected option
[Code]....
New information, I found the reason nothing occured was a simple mistake in the value being passed in for compLev. However, now it runs through the code for the correct case and does nothing to the color of the item.
I have a drop down for 6 colors...and user didn't find the color which he wants...can I place a last option as new or Edit or something which allows the user to enter the color he wants in the dropdown or change that drop down to textbox to enter data... If this is possibly then how can i capture those values in the code behind...
So, I have 3 table adapters in my dataset, and trying to configure the objectDataSource will not give me the option to select the correct table adapter.
I set up a temporary website to illustrate what I am talking about, along with pics, not much, just 4 pics.
The first 2 pics are irrelevant but just in case anyone thinking I don't have it set up properly. The other table adapters are working fine, which I have gridviews being populated etc.
why it will not give me the option to select aspnet_GetRecordDatesTableAdapter?
I have a simple sql server table with around 20 fields in it. I have created an asp.net page which shows the ecords in a gridview & then the selected record in a formview. There may be cases of multiple users editing the same record so i wanted to use the conflict detection in a sqlDataSource to inform users of the conflict. I managed to get this working where i replicated all 20 fields to create the equivalent original_XXX parameter.
BUT i was wondering whether it is possible to show all 20 fields but only use 1 (the date modified field) to check for data conflicts? I have tried to implement this in the following way:
[Code]....
But i've had no luck in getting it working. The conflict detection simply overwrites the changes instead of not allowing the changes and showing the specified error msg (in the onUpdated event). The examples and tutorials i've seen all seem to indicate that each field would need to be compared BUT why can't i simply compare a datetime field which records the last time a record has been updated? Surely, there has to be a better way of resolving the data conflicts than comparing every single field with it's original value?
