DataSource Controls :: Copying Db Structure With Out Data
Jan 25, 2010
I want to know what the easiest way is to copy one database structure to another blank database. I want tables, stored procedures and functions copied over but none of the data within the tables. I can export it...but then all the data also gets carried over, which I don't know. What would be the best way to carry this out?

I have inherited a piece of code that is a bit of a pig. It uses a cursor to loop through a list of stores and count customers. I would like to change this to use a CTE, but am not sure how to configure it.The basic functionality of the SP is:Declare variablesSet up start and end datesDeclare CursorGet a list of stores to checkOpen the CursorWhile... Loops through the stores Insert a new record into the Destination Table Count up the new customers for this store Count up the returning customers to the store Update the new record with the totalsLoopThe code:

I have just used the Import and Export Wizard to copy my production SQL Server database, which uses Membership and Roles. I used the option to copy all the data from existing tables and views and did not modify the mapping in any way. Things do not seem to have gone well.....
My source database has a bunch of views with names like vw_aspnet_Applications,vw_aspnet_MembershipUsers, etc. The copy database has these listed as tables!I wondered if running aspnet_regsql.exe might fix things. I needed to run this anyway to create all the missing stored procedures for Membership, etc. However, it failed with the error:Setup failed.Exception:An error occurred during the execution of the SQL file 'InstallCommon.sql'. The SQL error number is 2714 and the SqlException message is: There is already an object named 'vw_aspnet_Applications' in the database.Creating the vw_aspnet_Applications view...I am a bit lost. All I want to do is to create a total clone of my production database for test purposes. Where do I go from here?

I have a gridview based on a sqldatasource that has some colums from which two colums showing the data of two fields: field1 and field2. field1 is an ID which should not be updated and therefore it is readonly=true. The sql-query from the sqldatasource is:
SelectCommand="SELECT field1, field2 from anyView"
What I want is, that when a row is updated, then the value from field1 should be copied to field2 The update-query is:
UpdateCommand="UPDATE myTable SET field2=@field2 WHERE field1=@field1"
My idea was, that the @field2 paramter gets the value from the query string out of field1:
<UpdateParameters>
<asp:QueryStringParameter Name="field2" QueryStringField="field1" Type="Int32" />
</UpdateParameters>
But this does not work. Is there an easy way to copy the data from field1 to field2 when updating the row? In addition, is this possible, even if field2 ist not shown in the gridview (i.e. field2 is selected in the query but is not a field in the gridview but should be updated with value of field1).

I'm trying to setup a gridview control to have a column full with a hyperlink called "Details" that redirects to a template page that has a formview control. It's supposed to transport the productID of it's corresponding row to that other page, which already has an Entitiy DataSource setup to a database, and it's supposed to use that product ID to fill in fields on that Formview Template.
I was trying to copy this tutorial:
[URL]
but he uses a listview control instead. Reason I'm using gridview is because it's a gridview that filled on the spot after it's queried to by a search engine.
How would I accomplish somthing similar but with gridview controls instead of listview controls? What kind of syntax would I want to be looking at?

I am trying to achieve a list view with this structure.I have many categories with many products
<table>
<tr>
<td colspan="3"><h2>Cat1</h2></td>[code]...
As you see the <td> for products must always be no more than 3 columns. but if there are 8 products then there will be 3 rows (2 full rows and one row with only 2 products) So far I have this:
<asp:ListView ID="lvProducts" runat="server">
<LayoutTemplate>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="800"> [code]...
it doesn't work .

What I want to do is to put a "(reported as invalid)" after the name in the GridView. However, I can't figure out how I can do this, or whether or not I should actually do it in the .aspx file. The field that I am going to check for validity is called invalid, and is a bit. Here's the GridView:
<asp:gridview id="grid" runat="server" datasourceid="sql" autogeneratecolumns="false" useaccessibleheader="true" allowPaging="true" pageSize="10">
<columns>
<asp:BoundField datafield="name" headertext="Name" />
<asp:TemplateField headertext="Link">
<itemtemplate>
<a target="_blank" href="<%# Eval("link") %>"><%# Eval("link") %></a>
</itemtemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:BoundField datafield="description" headertext="Description" />
</columns>
</asp:gridview>

I am working on a web service that return image tiles for site using Bing Maps. The problem I am having is that All these tiles are created using a single data source. When the bing maps control calls out for the imagery it calls the service multiple times to get the tiles it needs. So if the first thread to go in gets the file all the other threads will fail until the first thread is done reading in the file. Is there an easy way to share this file between all the requests? The flow for what im trying to do is as follows: recieve request open file and read in the data to a custom class - (this is the class I would like to share for all the threads) create the image based on the data return the image.

I have a requirement where I would not know the columns and any result set information at design-time, so I'd be generating the data-display control dynamically.What is the most suitable way to display this type of information on-the-fly in a table/grid like structure on an ASP.NET page considering the following parameters (in order of importance):
Performance
Extensibility
Usability
I know I can dynamically generate a gridview/repeater/listview control but what I'd like to understand is which option (from stated ones or any other beyond these) would be an optimal solution..S. Paging and Sorting are part of desired functionalities, but can be overlooked if the solution is overwhelming. :)

In my form there are about 6 parameters and two of them have multiple values, upto 6. I'm imposed by the restrictions that I can't change the table structure. The table have 8 fields one for ID as primary key, one for foreign key and other to store data. The two fields which have multiple values are color and size. A size may have different colors and vice versa.
The programmer which have developed the site earlier used a stored procedure to store the data in database. And he implemented the above scenario one by one for each color/size. Now I have to put all in one.
How can I do this. As I can't change the table structure at current moment as this will disturb the whole E-commerce site.

This is in my opinion an abstract problem and I hope I can explain it well. I happened to find the same kind of problem in a completely different project and now I have it again and I would like to avoid it if possible.
I'm creating some classes to simplify some tasks for some specific requirements we have in some projects at work.
I have a class that creates objects which maps the values from webcontrols to an object properties similar to this
[URL]
The problem I have it's sometimes I have to store a non container object in a place (in an object's attribute) and sometimes I have to a store a container object in the same place for storing the values of a webcontrol (a webcontrol can sometimes hold several values like a checkboxlist). I dont like this at all, because some time ago when working in a non commercial compiler, when parsing and generating the intermediate code I had sometimes to store a container in a place, and sometimes I had to store a non container in the same place, and having to ask in other parts of the code if what you are reading is this type of object, or this another type of object, it is something really annoying and it mess up the code. Is there any tips about what it would be better to do to avoid this kind of situations or nothing can be done to avoid it sometimes?
