1. I have a GridView on my page and it uses sqldatasource with parameterized query. What I want to do is, on page load (where nothing has been selected so no parameter supplied), I want it to query everything (something like SELECT * FROM [this_table]) but since my SelectCommand is something like
SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [this_column] = @someParameters AND [that_column] = @someParameters.
Can I play around with default value to achieve something like that but how ? Now, when the page loads, it doesn't show anything (No Gridview).
2. On my page, I made something like (username, gender, address, and more) and one single search button. That means, no single control enable auto postback. What I am trying to accomplish is building dynamic query
(if username specifed -> SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username).
If both username and gender are specified (SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username AND [gender] = @gender) and you know the rest. How can I do this using GridView and SqlDataSource ? To my knowledge, I can only specify one SELECT statement in a sqldatasource.

This works great for 1 parameter
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters("City").DefaultValue = Me.Page.Title
But I can't figure out how to pass in two parameters in a single statement (See the Select Parameters Below) Two paremeters (City, and Classification) If I set the page title to say "Bismark Charters" Bismark = City & Charters = Classification
[Code]...
</SelectParameters >

Ive tried a few ways of doing this without success and got together a simplified example so hopefully I can get an answer. When I try to INSERT using a stored procedure InsertTest (normal SQL works OK) I cannot. I need to know how to pass the @Model parameter to the Stored procedure
Have a Stored procedure which can be executed and after entering string for @Model through wizard a new record is created
My asp:SqlDataSource includes InsertCommand="InsertTest" InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure"
Also my <InsertParameters includes the asp:Parameter Name="Model" Type="String"/>
My drop down (and I think this is where the problem is ). Record is Inserted after choosing Model and pressing enter
Do I have to set one of the properties in the drop down to tell the Stored procedure the parameter being passed is the parameter Model ??

here is my code for selectiong some records from db table
string strSql = "select * from mtblNBD where SentTo=@SentTo and InternalStatus Is NULL order by DeadLine desc";
SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand(strSql, con);
com.Parameters.Add("@SentTo", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50).Value = (string)Session["uname"];
here I am using parameters for SenTo field but not for NULL so it is ok... or should I use parameters for this field where value is NULL , if yes then how can I use parameter for this

I am new to LINQ to XML in .net(C#, asp.net). I want to know more about Lambda expressions. I am using Lambada expression with the following query.
count = FieldRoot.Element("USER").Element("MM")
.Descendants("MMMS")
.Where(a => a.Attribute("ID").Value == MID)
.SelectMany(b => b.Descendants("ABC")).Count();
how the Lambda expression work specially in case of parameters (in the above case a & b) ? What is the basic concept of parameters in Lambda expression ? Can we use the names of the variables defined outside of the query instead of a & b ? which elements a & b represent in the above case represent ? Can we pass parameters from outside in the query ? If we can pass parameters from outside query then how it will be done? If you give me any other example instead of the above query to understand the concept of parameter in Lambda expression.

I have SqlDataSource with a few parameters (code below). If I understand this code correctly if parameter is NULL I should receive all items from the query. It works fine with query editor. But when I try to use this query on my page - with DropDownList and Textbox controls as source of parameters - it doesn't work. I suspect that main reason of problem is value which these controls pass to the query. Instead of NULL this is an empty string. Is it possible to pass NULL value from DropDownList or TextBox to
the SqlDataSource?

getting the Parameters declared in an sql function in the C# code. We can actually get the parameters from a Stored Procedure by giving SqlCommandBuilder.DeriveParameters
Similarly is there any way to get the Parameters from the SQL Function.

basically i have two dropdown boxes to filter data and textbox with stored procedure bound to gridview.i want to be able to query data depending on the selected value passed,either using one or more parameter values.
i would like seperate sqlcommands to chose from depending on which controls i select to pass parameters.
i have included a parameter Select(control id) as this is declared by the wizard for stored procedure.
but i am not sure how it is defined on the page and passed to procedure.

I have SQLDataSource for my gridview. By default it works fine but i need to determine a few things before calling my procedure. By this i mean i need to determine a few things about the fields completed and set a flag to determine where the procedure will look.
I found a few examples online on passing parameters in code behind, but cant seem to get them to work. Here is what i tried and cant get results back. When i execute the procedure on the SQL side with the same parameter values, it works, so i know its returning results, so means my values are not being sent or im doing something really wrong. I have some of the lines commented out so the page can load and display for now.. but i need to get it working with custom parameters and flags.
Here is my SQLDataSource:

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Query Builder and am trying to pass a value to a parameter that uses the IN OPERATOR.Here is my sql from qb:
SELECT COURSE_TITLE, INSTR_NAME, ADMIN_UNIT
FROM vwHRIC_EC_ContractSummary
WHERE (ADMIN_UNIT IN (@ADMIN_UNIT))
The trouble I am having is that if the parameter @ADMIN_UNIT contains more than one value such as (8X, CV) that the query doesn't return any data. If I run the same query with only one value such as (8X) it works fine.I have tried different formats like (8X, CV), ('8X', 'CV'), (8X; CV) but none have worked.I ran this same query in SQL Server Management Studio and and it returns data no problem but can't get it to work in Query Builder for my aspx application.Does anyone have any experience with this problem and how did you correct it?

I am trying to allow users to grab their stored procs and call certain ones from within code. I can get the stored procedures and then fill a dropdown with them, but what I cannot find at this point is how to get the parameters that each stored procedure needs. I would like, once an SP is chosen from the dropdown to make a call to the db with that sp name and grab its paramter list so I can report what needs to be sent in to the user.

I have a question related to <asp:SqlDataSource's SelectCommand. How to pass a querystring like <%# Eval("PhotoID") %> in the selectCommand. The whole frontend code is attached. I put
<%# Eval("PhotoID") %> and the photoid gets printed in the page.
<%# Eval("PhotoID") %> is the current displayed picture's PhotoID.
I want to pass this PhotoID or I want to pass <%# Eval("PhotoID") %> to the select command dynamically. I have tried the following approaches:
1) <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:aspnetdb %>" SelectCommand="SELECT UserName, commentDesc, uID FROM photo_comment_view Where pID = @pID"> <SelectParameters><asp:Parameter Name="pID" DefaultValue="7" /></SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> The above works but it gives only information about PhotoID 7, but there are other photos; How to set pID's value to <%# Eval("PhotoID") %> in ASP .NET's frontend page? then I also tried,
2) <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:aspnetdb %>" SelectCommand="SELECT UserName, commentDesc, uID FROM photo_comment_view Where pID = <%#'Eval("PhotoID') %>"></asp:SqlDataSource> Gives Parser error: Parser Error Message: The server tag is not well formed.
What I should do so that I can pass current PhotoID to SelectCommand? The frontend code:
<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/Default.master" Title="Your Name Here | Picture Details"
CodeFile="Details.aspx.vb" Inherits="Details_aspx" %>
<asp:content id="Content1" contentplaceholderid="Main" runat="server">
