My website will target UK and US markets, and i need to display a different price/currency for both markets - what is the best way around this?
1) a simple drop down box asking users preference?
2) Using culture class in asp .net to auto detect eg System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture
How can I displays currency value in US culture format like $5,123,456.55. I know that I can do it using ToString method but don't know how?

I have used MaskedEditExtender for currency purpose. when iam insering data into table it is accepting correct figures. while reading the same figures from database,I am displaying the figured in another textbox. (for second textbox i have used MaskedEditExtender) but it is displaying in that text box wrongly. suppose x=100 am reading this value from database and displaying x value in edit mode.but it is displaying 1.00. means it is taking last 2 digits as decimal points. how can I show in correct format?
View 5 RepliesI created a custom clander server control basing on "System.Web.UI.WebControls.Calandar" and when i change the culture from login Screen (Ex:- Spanish) i am setting only the UI Culture in the page base class. When i had the Both "CurrentUICulture" and "CurrentCulture" set i could see the Day (Mon Tue) of the my custcalander control in the corresponding culture, but when i commented out i see them in English only (not in the corresponding culture set while loggin in. The reason why i commented out the "CurrentCulture" was that when i set this the middle tier or code behind files also running in this culture (as we are setting on the CurrentThread culture) and causing decimal data coming in this culture (Ex:- spain) and so on. So i only set the "CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture" only to corresponding culture and not the "Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture". Is there a way to acheive this, i mean How to make the Day (Ex:- Mon, Tue, Wed) in the corresponding culture with out setting "Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture"?

Im new to learning C# and .Net platform,
I have been wondering how i would go about:
1. Detecting the browser version
2. Using the browser version and associating a class or id for it
3. Using this class or id to be assigned to the html body tag.
Keeping one stylesheet for all browsers but having browser specific styles if any fixes are required. I know this can be done, i just dont know how.
I have found a problem with the Masked Edit Extender when using it with a culture of Azeri (Latin, az-Latn-AZ). I have not found anywhere that states that the control should not be used with languages that is not included in the list of languages that the ajax control toolkit is translated.
The currency symbol for Azeri is "man." the first problem is that the mask displays this as "man," but the comma is the decimal indicator for Azeri.
Scenario 1
When the DisplayMoney property is set to "right" and the currency is removed by the masked editors script the resulting value looks something like "12,12," the second comma then invalidates the numeric value and all my compare validator which also acts on the same textbox keeps failing because the value is not numeric.
Scenario 2:
When the DisplayMoney property is set to "left" there is always a "0," added to the string because the the script of the masked editor removes the man then gets to the comma (man",") sees it as a decimal indicator and adds the 0 before the comma this happens on the first blur of the textbox each resulting onblur event will add another 0 to the value. But the value is already invalidated by the fact that it again has two commas like 0,12,12.
I get this result even with the Ajaxcontroltoolkit sample site, the changes needed to sample site's MaskedEdit.aspx page can be seen below.
For scenario 1, change the first MaskedEditExtender on the MaskedEdit.aspx page to the following:

I have a website calling a WCF service and I want the service to run with the browser culture. I am using the service in ASP.NET compatibility mode. This is working so far - It is possible to set the culture of the WCF service using the culture and uiCulture of the globalization section.
My problem is that enableClientBasedCulture shows no effect. These are my globalization settings for the service:
<globalization enableClientBasedCulture="true" culture="auto" uiCulture="auto"/>
The service ignores these settings and uses the default culture.
Something I am missing? Is enableClientBasedCulture the wrong way to transfer the culture in this scenario?

Recently i installed VS 2008 in my system.this application is working fine in VS 2005 priviously.Now i am getting above error while running this application in VS2005
I need to change culture of the specific aspx page bases on the main user's culture.I am able to fetch the data that which culture main user have.But some how I am not able to set the same culture for that aspx page.I had written the below code for that.

how can to get culture info or just culture name from the datetime string e.g i have strings like: "16/02/2008" or "23/02/2008 " can i know the culture name from the above datetime strings?
View 3 RepliesI have a scenario where I am using CalendarExtender on a page with UICulture and Culture as "en-US".
But I want to show CalendarExtender in "de-DE" culture. I know that I can set up EnableScriptGlobalization="True" EnableScriptLocalization="true" for ScriptManager and CalendarExtender will show up as per culture defined for page. But this does not work for me because I can not change page level UICulture and Culture from "en-US" to "de-DE" ( If I do so, I face double value issue. e.g. double d = 12.34; is displayed as 12,34 on UI and then its unmanagable while editing values).
So coming back to my problem, Can I just change culture for CalendarExtender so that page culture is set to "en-US" and calender is shown in some different language? I know its not something straightforward, I might need to dig up source code.

i designed an export to excel page that uses the following code
the data is displayed in grid view and the date format is displayed as M/d/yyyy
so i added the culture en-GB to page directive to display the date as d/M/yyyy
the date now displays correctly d/M/yyyy, and the utf-8 also display correctly in gridview.
however once i export to excel the utf-8 appears scrambled
when ever i remove the culture from page directives, names display correctly, however i face again the M/d/yyyy issue.
My question is: is there a way to display date as d/M/yyyy and at the same time reading correct utf-8
I am working on an ASP.net web application, the application need to display text in English, Chinese and Japanese based on the parameters passed, however the culture settings such as currency symbol, time and number format should remain as en-US locale.
My understanding about ASP.Net localization is a package deal, am I wrong? If I am right, the only way to do this is to roll my own solution?

View 1 Repliesi have an datatable called orders. One of the columns is "OrderAmount" In the aspx, page I have a datalist and am using the {0:c} in the item template but it is not showing the £ symbol or the amount in correct number format.
In my datatable I am not sure if I need to use Int or Float.
the amount I want to enter is £21,316.56. I have tried entering 2131651 but it does not display correctly in data list.
