Display Multiple New Windows?

May 14, 2010

I have a search page where by a client searches for a product from a drop down list, upon clicking a button, a gridview is produced display the spec.

What I would like is the functionality for the user to make their selection and a new window pops up with the spec.

So I have a simple code behind for the search page:

protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Session["Product"] = DropDownList1.SelectedValue;
string strScript = "window.open('GridViewPage.aspx', 'Key',
[Code]....

Now upon first iteration, this does the job...gridview presented in new window...hurrah! i.e. a user searches for egg, the spec for an egg is presented in a new window.

However, what I would like to happen is that the user can make multiple searches so a number of new windows are opened. i.e. a user searches for egg once, the spec is returned in a new window; they then wish to see the spec for a chicken, so they use the search page to find said chicken, click the button and another new window is shown displaying the chicken's specs.

Way Around Session Being Shared Across Multiple Tab Windows?

May 13, 2010

I'm storing some value in an asp.net session on the first page. On the next page, this session value is being read. However if multiple tabs are opened and there are multiple page 1->page 2 navigation going on, the value stored in session gets mixed up since the session is shared between the browser tabs.I'm wondering what are the options around this :Query String: Passing value between the pages using query string, I don't want to take this approach since there can be multiple anchor tags on page 1 linking to page 2 and I can not rewrite the URLs of each tag since they are dynamic.Cookies??? In-memory cookies are shared across browser tabs too, same as the session cookie, rite ?

Security :: .Net Windows Authentication, Multiple Log In Requests?

Mar 16, 2010

I have a small project I am working on using web developer express, and I am trying to get windows authentication to work with my intranet website project. This website is only to be accessed inside my LAN and not from the internet at all, so I figured windows authentication would be best.What happens when I turn it on (and I've tested this from multiple browsers: IE8, Firefox, Chrome, Safari) is that the website asks the user to log in (via pop up textbox). Not only does it request the user to log in (which I don't think it should, since the login is based on windows authentication and I am on a windows machine already logged into the internal domain) but it requests the user to login multiple times, sometimes I get asked to log in and type in the same username/password combination 12 different times. It seems to me that the asp page is requesting permission to view each individual element and requires authentication to load one object (like an image or text box).

I am severely annoyed. :( I just wanted authentication to work smoothly without any login requests, or at the mostone request.

How To Prevent Multiple Browser Windows From Sharing The Same Session?

Mar 25, 2010

I have ASP.net application that is basically a data entry screen for a physical inspection process. The users want to be able to have multiple browser windows open and enter data from multiple inspections concurrently. At first I was using cookie based sessions, and obviously this blew up.I switched to using cookie-less sessions, which stores the session in the URL and in testing this seemed to resolve the problem. Each browser window/tab had a different session ID, and data entered in one did not clobber data entered in the other.

However my users are more efficient at breaking things than I expected and it seems that they're still managing to get the same session between browsers sometimes. I think that they're copying/pasting the address from one tab to the other in order to open the application, but I haven't been able to verify this yet (they're at another location so I can't easily ask them).Other than telling them don't copy and paste, or convince them to only enter one at a time, how can I prevent this situation from occurring?

Multiple Browser Tabs/windows Sharing Data?

Jan 27, 2010

I have a page where I display ASP.NET charts. There are two types of charts and I felt the need to separate them to some extent which I did by using a submenu which looks like this:

Charts > Goals Charts
> Reconciliation Charts

Clicking on either of the two chart links will take you to the same Charts.aspx page, but with the query string "Goals" or "Reconciliation" respectively. On the page load of the Charts.aspx page, I receive the query string into a session variable and create the correct charts based on that value. All of this works fine.

The problem I'm experiencing occurs when I open up a new tab in IE/Firefox. Here is the series of events I'm experiencing:

- In the original tab, I will click on the "Goals Charts" hyperlink which loads the Charts.aspx page with "Goals" as the charts type session value. The other controls on the page needed to produce "Goals" charts (eg. drop down lists, etc) are displayed correctly ie. the "Goals" version. At this point, I haven't done anything in this tab except for loading the Charts.aspx page from the "Goals Charts" link.

- In the original tab, I right click the "Reconciliation Charts" link and opt to open in a new tab (I just tested and the same thing appears to be working if you opt to open in a new window as well). When the new tab loads the Charts.aspx page, it loads with the query string "Reconciliation" which it stores in the session variable. So at this point I would expect to have two different, independent tabs: the original tab on the "Goals Charts" track and the second tab on the "Reconciliation Charts" track.

- This is where the problem occurs. I would expect the original tab/window to create a "Goals" chart when I make a selection using the other controls and I would expect the second tab/window to create a "Reconciliation" chart. The problem, however, is that when I go back to the original tab/window - the one which should be a "Goals" chart and which should have "Goals" stored in the session value - when I proceed to create a chart, it's a Reconciliation chart that is created.

Somehow, even though I'm in a different tab or window and I am navigating the site seemingly independently of the other tab/window, it seems to be carrying the most recently populated value from the session variable for both tabs/windows.

Run Multiple Versions Of Code From A Single Windows Service In .NET?

Mar 13, 2011

We've got an enterprise ASP.NET/VB.NET application that has multiple clients running on different versions (websites) of the product code.

I am trying to make a windows service that runs on our server to execute long running tasks. This service needs to run the correct version of code for each client and I had originally thought about calling a WCF Service that would be deployed as part of the web version.

The problem is that our IIS pools recycle each night and this opens up the possibility of a job getting aborted. A job that went over 24hrs would never get an opportunity to finish.

Our server is running Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, .NET Framework 3.5, SQL Server 2005.

Is there a way to load assemblies dynamically to use without having to restart the service?

Edit: I ended up using System.AddIn detailed in this step by step example

VS 2010 - Multiple FileSystem Watchers In Windows Service

Oct 14, 2011

Now I want to create several filesystemwatchers in my Windows Service and have them monitor different folders but do basically the same thing when files are created. That is, they will be calling the same routines. So my code so far is this:

Code:
// 10/14 - Create N fsw's as specified in the config file.
int nbrFsw = Convert.ToInt32(ConfigSettings.ReadSetting("NumberOfWatchers"));
List<FileSystemWatcher> listOfFsw = new List<FileSystemWatcher>();
for (int i = 0; i < nbrFsw; ++i) {
FileSystemWatcher fsw = new FileSystemWatcher();

[Code] ....

Is there a potential problem that all fsw's that get created are calling the same "on created" event handler? Or will this work nicely?

My requirement is this. I need to watch Output folders and when pdf files are created here I upload the files to a server. These Output folders are in web app deployments. I need to do this function for more than one deployment on the same machine, thus my need for more than one fsw.

This will ultimately be a web service but I am trying this out in a windows program, hence the presence of lblMessages which is on a windows form...

Security :: Authenticating User - Textbox Shouldn't Display Current Windows Login Name

Jun 3, 2010

I am using Login control and validationg the user against SQL datasource. below is the code:

Protected
Sub Login1_Authenticate(ByVal sender
As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.Web.UI.WebControls.AuthenticateEventArgs)
Handles Login1.Authenticate
e.Authenticated = IsValidUser()If IsValidUser() =
True
Then
Response.Redirect("Orders.aspx")End
If
End
Sub
Here is IsValidUser
Private Function IsValidUser() As Boolean
Try
Dim sql As String = String.Empty
Dim RecCount As Integer = 0
sql = "Select count(*) from UserLogins where UserName='" & clsDB.RemoveQuote(Me.Login1.UserName.Trim) & "'"
sql = sql & " AND UserPass='" & Me.Login1.Password.Trim & "'"
RecCount = clsDB.ExeScalar(sql)
'If Invalid ==> 0 means no record is being returned by Query
If RecCount = 0 Then
IsValidUser = False
'MessageBox.Show("Invalid User Name/Password.", "Invalid", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Stop)
Exit Function
End If
If RecCount = 1 Then
IsValidUser = True
Exit Function
End If
'Error handler
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
End Function

Here comes the problem validation code is working fine and it validates the user and redirects the user to the "Order.aspx" page

For example: I type
Login Name: Nashy
Password: 1234

Order.aspx page has a textbox which supposed to display the current user login name and i am usiong the following code for that

textbox1.text=Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.tostring()

when i test it on my local PC it shows the current user like this DOMAIN ashyMastrew.. what i want that the textbox should disply "nashy" not my current windows login name. and when i deploy it to the server and access it from other pc textbox does not show anything.

Forms Data Controls :: Which Is Better To Display Multiple Rows Of Data With Multiple Controls DataGrid Or DataRepeater

Nov 19, 2010

I have a page in which i need to show data in the form of a grid. Each row in the grid is made up of 2 sub-rows, the first sub-row consists of a dropdown, a textbox & a textarea. Whatever is entered in these controls should be displayed in the second sub-row in the form of labels at runtime (i.e. using javascripts)

There can be multiple rows like this. The grid would have a max of 30 row, not more than that. create this which one would be better, in terms of performance & complexity, a GridView or a DataRepeater?
