Forms Data Controls :: Using GridView With A User Control And Passing Object Into Control?

I would like to use the gridview paging feature and have built a gridview with a user control. The data source has lots of columns, so to make it easier I want to return a LIST<MyObject> and just pass <Myobject> into the user control rather than all the data elements. Not sure how I access the object of the data source to bind to the control. Assume it would be during ondatarowbound.
Also, my guess is there is a better way to do this than gridview. I'd take either solution that allows me to have easy paging and pass the complete object into the user control

In my project, I need to create a user control to handle the sorting and pagination of all the grids in the application. The grid however will be different in different pages with different formatting.
I am able to do this by exposing a property from user control which takes gridview as the input.
then in page load, i bind this grid, and assign the sorting and paging event handlers to this gridview variable.
This way I am able to do the sorting and paging, but the problem is I have to bind the grid in all the post backs, and then in the sorting and paging events.
So when a user sorts, I have to bind the grid twice, once in page_load and then in sort event of user control.
I can store the first set of records in viewstate and bind that in page load, but is there any other way, so that i dont need to bind the grid in all post backs but only inside of not postback.

I have a variable element in which I am passing a div and replacing object {0} with the actual control string I am getting. Here is my code.

In entities.ThumbNailImage I get the following image control string which I am trying to pasre, here is the string.

But string.Format gives me error, Input string was not in a correct format.

can you please help me to brainstorm the possible causes of this error. I've got a paged repeater with localisation bound programitcally to an sqldatasource using a stored proc. I have a user control that contains a reportviewer control.And I want to send an array of reportparameter to my user control.But I can't figure out how to do.I'm getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I binded user control in gridview dynamically using templatefield (through code behind)
User control consists of 2 textboxes and one dropdown.
There is one button outside the gridview on the form. On click of that button i have to save the values of usercontrol's (child controls i.e textbox and dropdown values) but i am not able to get the values of user controls.
I am able to get User Control using LoadControl and child controls using FindControl but not able get values i am getting textbox values as blank and dropdown value as 0th selected index even though there is value entered by the user.

I don't think I understand fully how ASP.NET does inheritance of controls.I have a user control, ucBase, which has an asp.net label in the ascx file. Code behind references the label and it works fine during run time if the control is not a parent for another user parent.
If I have another user control, ucChild, inheriting from ucBase, the label in ucBase's code is always null. ucChild has no controls in its ascx fileThe server controls (like the label) needs to be declared in the ascx file and not created programmatically.What needs to be done for ucBase to see its own controls when it's a parent user control?

User control can not be added in to toolbox,Unless or until it is changed into custom control.(VS 2005.) Once i have changed user control into custom controls(Composite Controls,WebControls,Controls) then i can add it into tool box. These statement are correct?. or is there any possibility to add usercontrol in toolbox?

I have a user control called ucTriStateButton. It raises an event when it is clicked, called TriStateButtonClicked. If I put this user control on a page, it works fine. Here is the declaration on the .aspx page:

When the button is clicked the method tsbTest_TriStateButtonClicked executes correctly.
The problem is when I put the user control in template field of a GridView.

There is no way to hook the event handler to the control in Page_Load because I cannot get a reference to tsbMorning. So I did it in the RowDataBound event handler of the GridView, where I also do a bunch of other row-specific stuff. Although this builds and runs, the event is never actually subscribed to and so never gets fired.
So the question is - how can I handle an event from many instances of the same user control within a GridView? I am calling the same bit of code regardless of which user control is actually clicked. I only need to know that one was clicked.

I have a page with lots of panels on it. Some of the panels are user controls and some are just on the page. I have a form on the page where you can add users and a gridview which is a user control showing a list of users.When a new user is added on the form I want to do gridview.databind() for the gridview in the user control. Does anyone know how to do this?

I am in need of some assistance in regards to how to best set the values of properties for a Web User Control which is being included into a cell of a GridView with dynamically created columns. I have tried a few different approaches, but can't seem to get a satisfactory result. Also, to be completely honest, I am not really sure if I am using best practices for what I am trying to accomplish.
First off a little background:I have a GridView for which we will never know the exact number of columns at run time. The columns are predicated by user selection. I am creating the command text for the DataSet on the fly and then looping through the columns of the resulting DataTable in order to use custom TemplateFields. This works ok for just printing out the row values but not so much for when I need to insert the Web User Control into a cell.The Web User Control is in essence a collection of image links which are used as a "Quick Nav" tool. I need to pass the values of 2 fields from each DataRow to the control via properties (for example, CustID and ProductID). I am using custom TemplateField classes inheriting from ITemplate for displaying my fields and extending the DataBinding event like so: [Code]....
This won't work for my User Control as DataBinding is called after the control is loaded into the page and I need the properties to be set before the Page_Load event of the control is fired.Is there a GridView event I should be looking into instead such as RowCreated or RowDataBound? Or should I modify how I loop through the DataTable by doing rows first, then the resulting columns as I've seen done elsewhere?

I have a calendar control where a user selects a date and then inputs info into a FormView control. Underneath the FormView is a GridView that shows all data from the SelectedDate on the calendar control. However, when the date is selected, all the information from the table ( from all dates ) is displayed.

I have a Web User Control that holds many others User Controls. I'd like to name those embedded controls based on the ID of the parent user control.
I'm trying this code inside the main User Control:
<myLibrary:myChildUserControl1 ID="<%=ID%>" runat="server" />
or
<myLibrary:myChildUserControl2 ID="<%=ID%>_OkButton" runat="server" />
In both cases I get a compiler error.
Note that I have no problem assigning the control ID to regular HTML elements. The following code works well:
