Forms Data Controls :: Data Formatting From String To Boolean?

In my repeater I am attempting to set the label format based on a value from my datasource. The following line from my repeater is straightforward enough but now how would I modify it if I wanted the "C2" statement in the ToString to pull from a field in my datasource named "MyFormat" which would contain either the C2 or N0 value? Basically switching the formatting for that label between currency and a double?
<asp:Label runat="server" ID="lblValue1" Text='<%# Convert.ToDouble(Eval("MyValue")).ToString("C2") %>'></asp:Label>
I've attempted to simply insert a statement such as Eval("MyFormat") in place of the "C2" statement but to no avail.
I am trying to create a control, but I need to load my formatting string from my web.config file, but every time I try to run the program I get an error one the formatting line. show me the correct syntax to load this data?

I am having trouble formatting the date on a textbox I get the error above if I don't enter the date in MM/DD/YY format in the textbox. I am also using this in a FormView so I can't format it or don't know how to in the code behind so if there is a way to format it in design view that would be preferable. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do any of this.
<asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("BIRTH_DATE", "{0:d}") %>' Font-Names="Tahoma"
Font-Size="X-Small" ToolTip="MM/DD/YYYY" ID="txtBirthDate" runat="server"
TabIndex="2" CssClass="style5"></asp:TextBox>
I'm quite new to ASP.NET programming, so excuse me if my question is dumb.I have the need of showing a grid (A GridView ?) of boolean values. But instead of showing checkboxes, I want to show the cells filled with black (value is true) or white (value is false). I understand I can do that by crafting a TemplateField and changing the style of the cell to select the correct background color and never displaying an actual value. I have not tried but I think it could work. The grid will contains 99% of boolean values and will contain something like 20 rows of 100 columns (2000 cells).
Now I would like to have that grid edited in place at client side, that is with JavaScript, changing the style of the cell when the user clicks on the cell. There would be a submit button somewhere to postback the whole thing.Is that possible ? Any hint for programming it ?Since I have a lot of webforms which needs to display that kind of grid, I would like to go further and design a custom GridView (or other control) that I could install in the toolbox and reuse easily.
I have a boolean gender value in my database. via a linqdatasource I would like to display this in a gridview template.
In the Edit template I would like to use a dropdownlist with male and Female listitems. But how should I bind this to my boolean data value?
I'm sure this is something simple that I have overlooked, but whilst configuring my SQLDataSource, I have tried to add a where statement onto a column in my datatable that has a data type of 'bit'. I have tried typing 'WHERE Answered = "0"' for false and also 'WHERE Answered = "false"'. The data source doesn't return any rows to my detailsview with either statement.
View 2 RepliesI have a boolean column in a datagrid that I would like to display as red/green image (I have already created these) instead of false/true. Or maybe I could display the "True" in green text and "False" in red text. Can someone point me in the right direction?
View 2 RepliesI would like to use an eval stmt to return a true/false for the visible property of a HyperLinkField. IF clientComment exists, I would like it to return True, if clientComment is null or "", then would like it to return False.
By default I noticed it already will not show the hyperlink if clientComment is Null, however the bug I'm running into is if the client enters a comment but then later deletes it so it's not null but blank, or "", in which case the HyperLinkField will incorrectly display. Here's my attempt so far but I'm obviously hitting a wall:
Visible='<%# Eval("clientComment")==Null or =="",False) %>'
I have an asp:label field for and expire date that should either display "Never" if the database field ([msDS-UserDontExpirePassword] this is a bit - true/false - field) is True, or otherwise display a date (pwdExpireDate).
My code doesn't throw any errors but I can' fully test it without putting it into production. Can someone tell me if this is correct? Also, there is no code-behind and I can't use code behind for this.
Here's the code:
The label: <asp:Label ID="lbUserPWExpireDate" Text='<%# ((bool)(Eval("[msDS-UserDontExpirePassword]"))==true ? "Never" : Eval("pwdExpireDate", "{0:M/dd/yyyy}")) %>' Runat="Server"/>
The query: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="GetUserExpireDate" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:USER_PREFERENCESConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT DATEADD(day, 59, pwdLastSetDateGMT) AS pwdExpireDate, [msDS-UserDontExpirePassword] FROM LDAP_Users WHERE mail = @USER_EMAIL_ADDRESS" OnSelecting="GetUserExpireDate_Selecting"> <SelectParameters> <asp:SessionParameter Name="USER_EMAIL_ADDRESS" SessionField="USER_EMAIL_ADDRESS" /> </SelectParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>
i need to find, string or boolean from database..
that is, i have a table i need to check that is string or boolean? to assigne other vairable?
using some extensions methods?
I'm trying display data from a sqldatasource but I need to customize fonts, sizes and layouts. What would be the best way to do this. There's not much data only 8 rows and 3 cloums.
It's for a display screen that will show workers how much product they have produced.
I was looking at binding the data to lables and laying out the lables in a table but that process looks intense and streching my knowledge.
I am facing certain problems with the data formatting in GridView when the data is bound dynamically to it.
I have a DateTime column and want to only show Date from it and not the time.
Another Decimal type column which accepts decimal upto 4 places, I want to show decimal upto the places defined in the particular value (don't know how to put it in the correct way, but here is an example of what I want).
i.e.
1.0000 should be displayed as 1 after the databound in the gridview.
Similarly,
2.3400 --> 2.34
1.0050 --> 1.005
1.1000 --> 1.1
I'm using the "Reponse.ContentType Method" for exporting from an ASP.NET page to excel using code similar to this:
[Code]....
That isn't my exact code since my code is in C# but otherwise basically the same. It works fine but when I open the file in Excel everything is formatted with the "General" data type. It doesn't matter if its a string, a number or a currency. I would like to be able to define how each column is formatted so that Excel displays the data properly with minimal if not any work from the user. I know the sw.ToString above is simply an html table that is in string form. Do I have to parse that string and add in something to format each cell or can I do something with the DataGrid object or something completely different? This seems like it would be a common problem or desire but I can't find much of anything on it anywhere.
I am looking for a method to format gridview bound data using javascript.
I know you can have custom formating in Eval using:
[Code]....
But I am looking for a way to perform this task on client side, rather than doing it on the server.
For example if I want to format a date field being bound in a custom way, something like emails date received in gmail. (Only show time if it is today's date [15:30] and only show day and month if it is this year date [14 Jan] and show the full date if it is not this year [10/10/2009].
So, how I use javascript to format a field (ie. custom date format or setting a control visibility)?
In trying to improve 'user experience' with a GridView, I have an administrative application where a GridView is displaying records from a SQL table. One of the columns is a bit column, and is displayed as a checkbox in the GridView. I want the user to be able to simply check or uncheck the box while viewing the GridView, and the value in that column for that record is immediately updated. So I set AutoPostBack="true" on the CheckBox in the GridView's Template Field.
But tests are indicating that the column value is not actually getting changed, even though the page appears to post back and displays the newly checked (or unchecked) checkbox correctly. But if I check the SQL table directly the column's value has not changed.
I come across the technique on how to apply a different CSS class to make a row stand out from the others. However, the original code is for gridview whilst I am trying to get it works on a listview. The original code for the gridview is as follows and how to get it done on listview.

I have a page that has been working for sometime and now getting this error..
String was not recognized as a valid Boolean.
Im was working on a How-To document of the pages for our VP and now i cant get to page 2 to continue the document.
I have recently added 2 new radiobuttonlists(rel and relst) and im sure its one of them thats causing the issue. But sicne i cant debug not sure which one is failing. Here is my insert code and the error is occuring on the Line 376:
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
The fields for the radiobuttons are all setup as BIT in SQL. They all have default values of 0. They are all setup NOT TO ALLOW NULLS.

I know that variations of this same question have been posed numerous times - but I can't quite seem to find the exact solution.
I would like any row in my gridview where the boolean field "Approved" is True to be shaded gray. Here is the code that I'm using, but every row ends up being gray, regardless of the value in that "Approved" field. My guess is that I'm not correctly evaluating the boolean value in this field (which is actually a yes/no field in MS Access), Not sure if I should be reading that value as "-1", "Yes" or "True" or "NotNull"? Anyway, here is the code:

formatting a gridview where I have some numbers that show up with the minus sign on top of the number.Ideally I'd like to set the negative numbers to be red if you know how to do that.I'd also just like more control over the width of the columns.some of my formatting code is below. The If - Endif stuff fails with a null reference exception, but the forecolor and backcolor and align code works

I have a GridView with bound TextBoxes (using smallmoney columns) that are formatted as {0:n2}. Is there a way to exclude the comma when the amount is 1,000.00 or greater?
View 2 RepliesHow to display the string data stored in a string[] variable into gridview?
View 9 RepliesI have a datagrid control, the first column is Revno, currently presenting info in linkbutton. i want to do a condition based on another field docid, which gets true or false value from database. if true then present Revno in linkbutton otherwise show the revbnno just as a label., thatway users does'nt have ability to clickit.
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="lblRevision" runat="server" CssClass="Textboxes" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "RevNo")%>' CommandName="FileDownloadRecord"></asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
this docid field has flag true or false.
if true meaning show the revno as LinkButton, otherwise show the revno as label.
GetDocdetail(DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Docid")
on the codebehind side i can use this function.
Public Function GetDocdetail(ByVal DocID As boolean) As String
If DocID = "true" Then
Else
End If
End Function
I have defined some binary bit columns in an SQL database table to indicate yes/no conditions, but I don't know how to set or reset them. I tried to use "profile.Volunteer = 0;" C# code in an event handler to reset a voluntary state for the Profile table of members, but what I got back was an error message that said, "Constant value '0' cannot be converted to a bool'. So, if a '0' cannot be used to reset a boolean value, what can be used?
View 2 RepliesI'm looking for a way to format a drop down list's selected value property such that if the Bind value is not found in the db then display "Empty".
I saw something a while back like <%# Format { Bind("Account_Type") ? Bind("Account_Type") : "ALL"} %>.
