Forms Data Controls :: Show Certain Input Fields Depending On Category Selected?

What would be the best way to handle the following scenario? I have an application where depending on what type of proceeding is selected, only certain input fields should be visible.
There are 33 proceeding types and 14 input fields in total
First case, make one big form with all of the fields and have a dropdown with proceeding type which depending on what is selected, makes certain fields visible?
I have 1 drop down, 1 text field and 1 command button i.e. "Search". Dropdown contrains following values
Type1 Type2 Type3
In textbox user will enter numeric or alphanumeric value
Here I want to check if 'Type1' is selected so user can enter only numeric value between 1000 and 2000, otherwise display some message "Entered value is not valid for "Type1". I want to display this message thru required validator error message property
If user select 'Type1' and 'Type2' then user can enter any alphanumeric value other than 1000-2000 numeric range.
I want to implement thru Search button or once user leave the textbox after entering value. Here I want to display message.
I have a gridview that is populating from a SQL DB and working fine. However, based upon certain data I find in fields in the SQL table, I want to place a 'n' or a 'y' in extra columns in the gridview that I am assuming need to be templatefields. My thought was I could maybe add 8 template columns and then I could put a 'y' in the appropriate column based upon the data I find the table. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to do this. I want to do this at rowdatabound time ( i think) but I just cannot find out how to, in my code, put that 'y' in the columns. Is this the right way to do this or do I need to do it another way? How do I get that 'y' in the proper column?
I'll try to explain as simple as I can in text what my problem is. I don't see any other way to make my issue clear.
I have a GridView that uses an ObjectDataSource.
The ObjectDataSource has an DataObjectTypeName defined, so I pass/get complete objects or list of objects to/from the data access methods.
The objects I'm working with, let's say we work with Book objects, contain a Title and a Category, BUT the Category is an object itself. When the Select method is called, we get a List of Book objects, which is perfectly displayed, overridden ToString method in the Category objects within the Book objects.
The problem I face is that I can't find a way to update the category in my GridView. What I did already accomplish is:I used a template field in the GridView for the Category so I could use a DropDownList for that field in Edit mode.
I bound the DropDownList to another ObjectDataSource that gives me a list of CategoryObjects.
So when I enter Edit mode... the row shows a nice ddl with the available categories. It even selects the right original category.
So far so good... but when I want to save my new selection, I get an error that a string (the selected category in the ddl) cannot be converted to a Category object (that's what the Book object, that is going to be used for the update, expects).
I am working in a project that is a musical website. I want to display the web page with all categories I have. In my database , named Category_Master, I have two fields like Category_Id (which is a primary key ) and Category_Name. I have generated category_Id with NEWID() function. The category_Id is not supposed to display on the web page. But, i have to select Category_Name and according to that , I have to get the category_Id. If I am using Static connection with SqlDataSource, i am able to make visible=false property so that the category_id won't be visible. But , at that time, I can't write code to Select the category_id of the selected index.
If i am using disconnected approach, I filled the dataset with the Category_Master, and binded it to GridView. But, at that time, I can't hide the category_id from the user. I want to select category_id by clicking on the category_name with out displaying category_id ..?
I have following entities: Every time i update or insert a transaction i would like to autodetect the category depending on ReferenceMappingExpression or DescriptionMapppingExpression in CategoryMappings Entity. I mean i want to match Transaction.Description to CategoryMappings.DescriptionMapping and if it matches get the FkCategoryID from CategoryMapping and save the transactions. It is possible to loop throug every transaction in list and categorymapping list but i dont think its good idea.
I added requiredvalidator to validate the input field in hte detailviews control. the only probably problem is error message shows up when form popup. I only want to show the error message after I click on the submit button. here's my code.
I have a table in my database called "Profiles". This holds data on Female and Male personal characteristics.On my aspx, I have a formview in edit mode which is binded to an object data source with a GetDataByUserId Select methodwhich retrieves data from the "Profiles" Table via a DAL.The "Profiles" table has some columns which relates to females only and some just males and some are generic to both.See example below

When the User logs in , they go to an update Page which has the Formview in Edit Item Mode and contains drop down Lists whichare binded to the Users Selected Value. The DDL are in turn bound to their related table such as HIP, Dress, Chest, Trouser etc.bjectiveIf a female user logs in I just want to show them the (Hip Size) DDL and DressSizeDDL in the Edit item template of the formview and not the ChestSize DDL or TrouserSize DDL.At present the GetProfileByUserId returns all colums from the tableMy question is how do I do this and just show DDL which are relevant to the Female or Male Only. I have a .net 3.5 web form with an ajax combo box and a text box inside it. The bombo box is bound to a SqlDataSource.
My requirement is to show/hide the text box depending on the text of the selected item in the combo box. If a particular string, say 'xyz', appears in the text of the selected item, the I will make the text box invisible. I enabled the AutoPostback, made the text box disappear in the SelectedIndexChanged event, and everything worked fine.
However, when users enter their own texts (which are not in the list items), I am unable to show / hide the text box. I've tried the TextChanged event but nothing happens. It seems the event is not trigger after I enter a new text and locate the focus to other place.
is there a way to prevent the user ented text from being inserted into the bombo box?
Im not sure what i could have done wrong here but i created a dataset (ran a query and it returns the correct data) - created my BLL class - bound the ObjectDataSource to the control using the BLL - ran the site and all the data is showing as expected. Now i click edit columns (from DetailsView smart tag) and the selected fields are empty. I refresh the schema and this makes no difference. What could i be doing wrong?
In this case I'm having, the ItemTemplate for various fields in my DetailsView (2 in my case) does not show up, but when you click the edit button, the EditItemTemplate shows up. I played with it, moving it around. No matter where I put it, one of the fields did not show up.
To get even stranger (and don't ask me how I came up with this), if I put a dummy boundfield BEFORE it, the ItemTemplate shows up. But this is totally absurd.
I have a web form that is a Purchase Order. It requires the user to enter a few dates and their personal information as well as picking stock to add to the po. The problem is after the user has entered all their data then then goto add stock and they are taken to a stock listing page, when they return to their form all the data the previously entered (name, department etc) has gone and they have to re enter it. How can I ensure that onces the user has entered this data, it stays there until the form is submitted or reset?
I have a function in sitefinity that returns a list of categories.

What I want to know is how to sort this list.
Categories in Sitefinity are as far as i can tell just a string, there are no other fields associated with a category. Therefore I have nothing to sort the categories on, other than appending each category with a number, like:
1 - Legal 2 - Financial 3 - Property
When these categories are displayed on the website I can then at least trim the parts i need.
I'm new to ASP but not programming in general. What I'm trying to accomplish is to have an ASP page where an EU can make some selections and input some text into fields and, upon clicking a submit button, have that input transferred to an access (.Mdb) database's table. I'm not sure how to go about this though. I don't know if it would be an SQL line or a dump to a different file type and then to Access (.Mdb) or something I don't know about.
I have one repeater on page which has his own sql data source. I've placed 2 dropdown lists on the page. The repeater has jQuery DataTable plugin. With 2 dropdownlist I wish to change the sql stored procedures so when each will be selected the data in repeater will change. When user select the first there will be only data (users) according to selected item and in the second the same. I wrote 2 simple functions for changing stored procedure of repeater and rebiding it. Everything works but when I try the second one and then the first I always get warning about error "Procedure or function .... has too many arguments specified".
I think that when I select the first one the second function is still called although I don't call it.
