I have a GridView that has rather long header column names such as "Baseline Start Date". I have alot of columns, so I want to sqeeze the columns as narrow as possible without truncating. What are some of the things developers do for my scenario?
View 3 RepliesI created a gridview that is made up of 4 gridviews and using a stored procedure to populate it. I create columns at runtime because the number of columns changes all the time.To make the grids editable I am adding template fields at runtime as I create the columns, this is to ensure that a user is able to edit the cells and some foot values update. Reason why I have four grids is to freeze rows and columns like in excel using javascript. The problem is that performance is very bad especially in IE, the grids take a long time to load. I am not sure if this is caused by the data load or the creation of text boxes. see some of the code below for my _aspx page:

View 1 RepliesI have a problem, where i'm trying to find if a file exists, and if it does, update a textbox to the next number. These filenames with either start with one or two zeros (they are from a digital camera)My code goes like this:

The number increment is working, but if i start with 0053, the next number it puts is just 54. I need to keep the zeroes.
Not that it should matter.. the 2nd value in the csv is an IP address.. its in the file as 192.168.7.25(just an example), but gets read as 192.1687, if the file is setup as delimited in the connection string, does that have any restraints on the data being read? When i open the file in notepad, the comma is at the end of the IP address, when i open it in excel it is in its own column.. so what could be causing this? Because of this issue with the truncation, that is what is causing the primary key issue.. because there are other values that are similar like these:
192.168.7.25
192.168.7.26
192.168.7.45
because if the issue, it passes each one of those as 192.1687 Here is the table structure, in case it helps resolve this issue.

I have a masterpage with a content area. When viewing a page in the designer the content area is so narrow it blows the page formatting to pieces. When viewed in a browser it looks fine, just looks bad in the designer.
I've seen other projects on other computers that don't have this problem ... is there a setting for this?

View 2 RepliesI am trying to make columns of a gridview invisible if they contain a space. The page contains a combo box which users can change. This causes a change in the data in the gridview. I use the following code:

What is working: On the initial page load, the correct columns are deleted. However, if the user changes the combo box, and the gridview has different data loaded into it, it cannot make visible what was previously invisible. I added the ...visible = true line to get round this, but when I load the page, it seems to get locked into a loop forever, and the page never loads - this is why the line is commented out.
This should be soooo simple, but it's making my brain smoke. I've tried writing the results on whether there is a space in the cell to an array, and then using that to make the columns invisible. I've tried doing this in different events, but it always has the same problem.
I suspect that if I can find out how to reference the contents of the gridview from outside its events, it may be easier.

I cannot seem to resolve in my head! I have a database with 4 of the columns having TRUE/FALSE values and I want to list the columns with TRUE values in a vertical list. The problem I am having is that when I tried to make visible=FALSE, then I have a gap in the list.

I cannot see how to shape the SELECT statement to include only columns with a TRUE value and I cannot figure out how to filter a control to only display labels with a TRUE value.
I've created a data bound gridview to a SQL database. I am retrieving the data with a simple select for a specific date, and then populating my gridview. The one caveat is that I have added a second header row to my gridview, and then I am hiding parts of another row that was retrieved to only populate the main header row. I believe that this is causing my issue. However, when I step through the code it appears that my ids are proper (the first row has an id of 0, etc....). However, when I check the checkbox in row 4, the actual data from row 3 is being pulled out of the gridview.

I have a gridview, where I set the columns based on the columns in a datatable. I have a class that implements ITemplate, and creates a textbox template field. Everything works good, I can display my grid with the correct columns and headers. The probem comes up when I click a Save button, to save the user input. Of course the page postbacks, and I re-create the columns on PageInit. However, all the data the user entered is gone.

now i have One TextBox and four radio button like 1.rbFirstName,2.rbLastName,3.rbAge,4.rbDatemy requirment is if i select radiobutton first rbFirstname and i will enter a text into textbox than ONKEYUP filter the gridview data and show only those row where data is match in first coloum"First Name" and hide the rest of rows...same required for radiobutton 2,3 and 4 respectively in gridview 2nd ,3rd and 4th coloum....i need this solution in javascript or Jquery but i dont want reload the page...

I have a DataGrid that is bound to a data set. Down column 1, I need each row in the column to be a link to another page or just plain text - which I can determine post-bind.
e.g.

Can this be done in a DataGrid? I need to give the user an indication in the cell that there's a link versus no link to another page.

When the user votes, his/her vote is stored in a sql server table The chart is rebound to its data source

I have not got the columns to change their color. I have put the code inside every event handler I could think of (after it failed to work inside the page load event handler): Inside the chart Init, load, and pre_render handlers. Inside the click event handler for the voting button (before and after I call the chart.DataBind() method). Inside the page pre_render handler. Inside the ToolKitScriptManager pre_render handler. I checked the code behind the environment samples. All, to no avail.
Is it possible to bind data to specfic columns in Gridview?
I mean, if I send a query to my database and it returns 1 column, then bind that column to the first column in the gridview, then send another query and bind the resulting column from that query to the second column without erasing the data of the first column etc etc.
