View 1 RepliesI want to create a small helpdesk ticket control system at work, that would allow users to enter a help request ticket; these tickets would then be assigned to a technician to work on, and the technician would mark it as "FINISHED" after the job is done. The requesting user would then be able to confirm and "CLOSE" the ticket, so that a Help Desk supervisor can keep track of response times and other stats based on the ticket details. Nothing too complicated, using .NET and SQL Server.
I am not sure if I should develop this as a Web application or a Windows application. This application would be used in the plant floor, so it would have to be easily available in the LAN. But we currently host a list of Windows applications via Citrix, so deployment would not really be an issue here. I don't really have experience creating winapps from scratch (though I've modified quite a few), but it feels like a web application would not look as "solid". What advice can readers provide that could guide me into deciding the better architecture for this purpose?
my project is on online multiplex ticket booking system, In my system when a user selects a movie it will show timings of the show and according to selected time on which screen movie is available is shown. So i just want to know when user selects all the details as i mentioned, according to that seats available should be shown and when user books seats that user has to type in textbox ,available seats should be deducted. how to perform all calculation from database and coding for the same.

I have configured gmail's free smtp server for my web app and previously I was using smtp server configured at the server.
So I have changed my smtp settings accordingly but my app isn't sending any email and giving me error connection time out, third party tool isn't responding after many retrials.
Here are my settings-

So i have not installed postgreSQL etc.. but i am unable to connect to that database.. and when i install and run on my local system, it connect.
I was assigned a bug saying that some page elements don't work on IE8 Quirks mode at all, and I need to fix them. The point is that I believe our pages will always be rendered in Standard mode, because we specify DOCTYPE at the beginning of every page (via master page). I'd think it must be some debugging tools changed that during testing.I managed to convice QA to close it as by design, after a brief explanation to her. Now I start to think the question that whether we should have our page work on both Standard and Quirks mode.
View 2 RepliesI'm only a novice asp.net developer and have never done this before. I have a developer working on a new web application for me. Part of the application allows the user to select a time when they receive an email, containing information collected throughout the day. The user can select a time, e.g. 5pm, then at 5pm every day they receive an automated email of information from the system. They can log in to their control panel and change this time.My developer says there is only two ways to schedule this batch, but it's not possible to let the user select a time. They have suggested:
a) Using a console application that will trigger the event everyday and send the batch update
b) Using a Windows Service that will deploy on your server and do the operation.
I really need the system to be able to let the user choose the time of their email. I hoped this would be possible with ASP.NET. Is it? If so, how?
How do I format the body of the email so it doesn't look so old school :) I've tried sending html through it, but it just comes out as html in the body of the email.

Calendarstream(pageID) returns the following filepath as a string
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\foldername\emailAttachments\calendar.ics
The value of attachment is the the filepath being returned however the attachment is not sending. The emails sends without the attachment.
My goal is to embed a link in the email.
Purpose is that the user needs to click the link in his email to activate the account.
But my emailbody with the link is just shown as plain-Non clickabel text.
the body text looks like:

How do i embed this link in the receivers email as hyperlink instead of plain nonclickable text?
I am having trouble putting all of the pieces together.

View 1 RepliesI am sending Email from SMTP server and all my Emails are landed in Junk in Hotmail ,Live and Yahoo. I am not using any Spam like content and following all the guildline to send Emails.
I check on mail to identify the Issues and found quite a few issues below
1) HELO Greeting Check
Description: Email Server HELO is . HELO greeting does not contain a valid domain. We would recommend to have a valid domain in HELO greeting. Ideally HELO greeting should be the same as Email server host name (in FQDN format).
2) BATV (Bounce Address Tag Validation) Check
Description: Email server is not using BATV format while sending out emails. BATV is recommended to ensure that your users do not become a victim of bounce floods.
3) DKIM (Domain Keys Identified Mail) Check
Description: Email does not contain any DKIM/Domain Keys Signature and the published Domain Keys policy rejects such unsigned emails. Therefore it is very likely that your emails are considered SPAM by Email servers verifying Domain keys. Signing your Outbound emails as per your Domain Keys policy will minimize chances of your Email being considered as SPAM.
I created a web form to send emails and using a class to perform the task. The process works well for all internal email addresses but will not deliver to external email addresses. I am not sure if I missed something in the code to send to external address.

View 3 RepliesI am trying to send an email from our web server to a gmail account via System.Net.Mail but am failing miserably receiving this error message:
Mailbox name not allowed. The server response was:
that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) Using this code I am able to send emails to other email addresses on our Outlook email server:

So I know I am capable of sending email to Gmail with port 587 and using the proper credentials of my own Gmail account. That is not the problem.
The problem is I want to be able to have the mail sent from my application from whatever the user puts in the FROM (Email address): text box to a Gmail account. When I use the above code, the address that the email is sent from is my own.
So the question is: Is there any way to configure this to be able to send from an Outlook email server to a Gmail account without having to use my Gmail account to actually do it (using my credientials). Therefore showing the email as sent from whatever the user puts in the txtEmail text box, and having it sent from the Outlook server?
I know my SMTP uses the port 25 for outgoing mail and I am pretty sure that the Gmail settings block port 25 for incoming mail, which makes sense, but what doesnt make sense is I can compose a message in Outlook and send it to a gmail account, but I cannot automate this through my programming, which makes me feel certain its my programming.

Well now i want to know that by using FormAuthenticationTicket how can I check on other pages if user is authenticated user cause in the URL if i just change the page like "Main.aspx" and hit it takes me there which should not happen and redirected to Login page.
How should i check on every page on page load event if user is authenticated or not and if not then redirected to Login.aspx.
I want to create a page for the student to download the hall ticket by putting their rool no and date of birth in the textbox and authenticating it.... I am planning to use xml file for student data, how can i do this, how cant retriew the data and generate a pdf file and allow it to download...
