MVC 2 - Setting Id Of Html.Form?

Jun 12, 2010

How do you set the id of an Html.Form in ASP.NET MVC 2?

I tried this:

<% using (Html.BeginForm("Save", "Clients", new { id = "SubmitForm" })) {%>

But it doesn't work, my form still doesn't have an id property:

<form action="/TothSolutions/Secure/Clients/Save/SubmitForm" method="post">

I'm guessing this worked in ASP.NET MVC 1 but not 2. The reason I need the id property set is so that I can do jQuery validation on the form: $("#myForm").validate etc...

Can An HTML Object Tag Be Placed Inside An HTML Form Tag

Oct 13, 2010

I have a simple ASP.NET page that uses the VLC media player to play a video in IE. I also have four buttons to control the playback:

Play, Pause, Stop, and Mute

The four buttons call JavaScript functions that access the ActiveX control. When I click on any of the buttons, I get the following error in the JavaScript function:

"Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'vlc' is undefined".

However, if move the object tag for the vlc player outside the form tag, then the JavaScript works correctly, and I can control the video playback.

My question is why must the object tag be outside the form tag for this code to work correctly?

Setting The Application Focus On Other Areas Of A Form?

Jun 24, 2010

I am not sure how to explain my current issue. Right now I have a Form that spans a couple of pages. I have divided the Form into multiple section as well including a File Upload section, a File Download section, and have an 'Update' button at the bottom of the Form. I also have Error labels within each section, and have an Error label at the bottom of the Form under the 'Update' button.The problem that I am experiencing right now is that when I produce one of these errors, the Form automatically displays the very top of the page. So in other words, if the error message is displayed at the bottom of the Form, the user has no idea unless they scroll all the way down.Is there anyway to keep the application focus at the area where the button is clicked on? This way if the user produces an error, they will see it right away.

Web Forms :: Setting The Default Control To A Complex Form?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm trying to set the default button to my master page for logging in.

Basically I've got a master page, with a LoginView in it, with a Login control in it, With a button in it... When you press "Enter" I want it to use that as the default button.

(structure in sudo-code if it helps)

BODY
Form ID=Form1
LoginView ID=MasterLoginView
AnonymousTemplate
Login ID=MainLogin
LayoutTemplate
Button ID=LoginButton

I know I've got to use .FindControl("") but as much as I mess with it I can't seem to get it to hook to the button.

MVC :: Html.DropDownList Not Setting Selected Value?

Feb 22, 2011

I've been all over the Internet looking for an acceptable solution to this issue, but didn't find one, so hopefully I'll have more luck here. I've got a Html.DropDownList control in my application that pulls in a set of values from the database. That works just fine. However, I want to set the selected value in code, which has never worked correctly. This is, in my opinion, one of the worst implementations of Html helpers in MVC. Here's the culprit:

[Code]....

OK, it takes in a list of statuses and gets the text/value options set without a problem, but doesn't ever render the selected value on the option with a value (ID) of "5". I've stepped through the code as it is assigning these values, and it
does set the value of that option to select = true, but the rendered html doesn't reflect this. I recall something about this helper using the Model to set its selected value, but why will it not allow the value to be explicitly set? Even better, if for some reason explicitly setting this in code isn't going to work, why allow it as viable code, and just silently fail? I'm all for this coding by convention approach MVC has taken, but when the convention is explicitly overridden in code, the code should prevail, I would think.

AJAX :: Keeping The User In Appropriate Form Location - Setting Focus?

Feb 1, 2011

I used Ajax collapsible extenders (1 to 9) with formviews in each of them on a web form.

They are all collapsed by default. If the user enters data in collapsible 5 formview and submits data, the page refreshes back to the top of the page (where the collapsible 1 is positioned). I would like the focus to stay in the region the user is working (even after insert/submit operations). How can I do this.

MVC :: Setting Attributes Conditionally In Html.BeginForm

May 6, 2010

I have a form that should have all html elements disabled unless a user id is present, indicating that a user has been loaded for editing. I've done this, which works:

[Code]....

This works, and all is good. I couldn't set an if statement up to control creation of the entire Html.BeginForm, which was a bit of a pain. When I tried, the View thought I was creating 2 form begin tags with only one end tag, even though it was inside a conditional statement. Whatever. The problem I now have is that I need to assign an id for the form to work with a validation plugin. I can't add the id = "someID" inside of the condition, because it won't be available when the user id is present, which completely defeats the purpose. I can't move the ternary condition to inside of the 'new' statement - I tried. I thought this would work:

[Code]....

But no dice. I get the following error: Type of conditional expression cannot be determined because there is no implicit conversion between 'AnonymousType#1' and 'AnonymousType#2'. What? Seriously? I'm not trying to convert anything. I'm either assigning a new html attributes section with one set of values or another set of values. Since I can't perform the conditional logic inside of the 'new' statement, I have to recreate the entire 'new' statement after the condition is tested, but this still doesn't work, as I get the aforementioned error. As a short-term fix, I'm going to just render an actual html form tag with the required data, but I'd like to know why it is that code executed/rendered within conditional statements doesn't understand that both true and false results aren't running, and also how to fix this issue while still using the Html.BeginForm helper.

Html - Setting Path And Expiration For Session Cookie

Mar 25, 2010

Anything I have tried didn't work. Currenly I have following code to change asp.net session cookie expiration date and path, but asp doesn't want to listen to me. I sends same cookie in Set-Cookie header two times sometimes, sometimes it sends it's default cookie ignoring path and expiration date, sometimes it sends everything as expected, and sometimes it doesn't send Set-Cookie at all. What should I do.

My code in Global.asax

protected void Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
/// only apply session cookie persistence to requests requiring session information
if (Context.Handler is IRequiresSessionState || Context.Handler is IReadOnlySessionState)

var sessionState = ConfigurationManager.GetSection("system.web/sessionState") as SessionStateSection;
var cookieName = sessionState != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(sessionState.CookieName)
? sessionState.CookieName
: "ASP.NET_SessionId";
var timeout = sessionState != null
? sessionState.Timeout
: TimeSpan.FromMinutes(20);
/// Ensure ASP.NET Session Cookies are accessible throughout the subdomains.
if (Request.Cookies[cookieName] != null && Session != null && Session.SessionID != null)

Response.Cookies[cookieName].Value = Session.SessionID;
Response.Cookies[cookieName].Path = Request.ApplicationPath;
