Requirements call for the ability to save search values so that they can select them at later times to return the results without having to re-enter the values. They have the ability to search on 4 different types of data (Date, Time and Lat/Long), so they would like to capture what was entered and ONLY if they chose to save those values, it will be saved and next time they login, if they are searching, they can pick an old search and submit it again.
Im thinking that i add a checkbox next to each button, if they check it, it saves the data into a table with there values and username. Next time they login and go tothe search page, if there are any records for them in the table, i present them with a link that displays all the values stored and if they select one, it will run the search again and present them with the results. does that sound like the right way to handle this request?
It is about ASP.NET MVC3. I have a page with at the top some search criteria and at the bottom the resulting data. The user can type some criteria and use a submit button to retieve data. In my controller, I have an ActionResult function for managing these criteria and return to the same page with a ViewModel class filled.
The problem: the user can click on a line in the resulting table for viewing a detail page. On the detail page, he can navigate to an edit page for editing data. On this page (edit data) I would like to able the user to go back to the search result page (in fact: navigate back two times). What is the best way to proceed? If I "simply" use an ActionLink (without posting data) to my search result page, it will simply display an empty result page with empty search criteria. Maybe I need to keep my search criteria in a session variable? I don't like this kind of thing...
Can any one let me know about the below issue. I have a page which has three labels, say startdate, enddate and username. My issue is if the user doesnot select any of the above three then a message gets displayed as "Please select one search criteria" or if the user doesnot enter the date in correct format then i dispaly "Please enter date in mm/dd/yy" format. But what is happening is first time if the user doesnot select any then "Please select one search criteria" is getting displayed and after this message gets displayed if the user enters wrong format of date then both the messages are displayed.
im trying to write a query. for my ui ,i have 3 text boxes for firstname, flightno, sequencenumber.

I have gridview that I am filling with records from SQL database. However, I want to populate the gridview with records that match text search criteria. In other words, I want to be able to key in a word like "network" in a text box, pick up the text, read records and pick up on the records that match that criteria. I am doing fine with building the gridview but I am a bit new to this and I don't know what I do to do text search.
I have a gridview with two textboxes (first name & last name) and a linkbutton to search results inside the gridview.
I have made select parameters as well and the search works if i write in both textboxes. However, if I leave one textbox blank, i don't get any results.

How can I get results from searching only one textbox?
The gist of the problem is that we have an alumni table (one record per person) and also a couple of other tables (one to many) that have degree info and interest info. In a search screen in our app you can search for criteria that spans all three tables (there are actually more fields and tables than shown in the example below but I am trying to keep it simple).
The code below works (properly returns people without degrees for example) but still feels a little clunky or over-engineered to me. Are there easier ways to do this? NOTE: I have been through quite a few iterations/approaches to making the correct data be returned.
The Register action gets called in the Account controller, showing the RegisterViewModel in the Register.aspx view. The form in Register.aspx is submitted/posted with answers to all of the form questions, except for the security question answers. If the user is created successfully, then I'd like to go to the GoToSecurityQuestions view using the code - return RedirectToAction("GoToSecurityQuestions", "Account"); I need to be able to keep track of the user name or ID of the newly created user so that I can persist the security questions to the database records related to the user. What's the best way to keep track of the user info between the [HttpPost] Register( ) and the [HttpGet] GoToSecurityQuestions( ) ?
[HttpGet] public ViewResult Register() { return View(new RegisterViewModel()); }
I used Ajax collapsible extenders (1 to 9) with formviews in each of them on a web form.
They are all collapsed by default. If the user enters data in collapsible 5 formview and submits data, the page refreshes back to the top of the page (where the collapsible 1 is positioned). I would like the focus to stay in the region the user is working (even after insert/submit operations). How can I do this.
I want to read some information from an xml file and store it ready in memory so that it can go out with every page response without being reloaded from the xml on every request.
What is the best way of doing this?
It looks to me like there are 2 options. Either create a class with static fields that the information is stored in. Or create a class with public fields that the info is stored in and create an instance of that class at application level.
Is that correct, are both of those options viable? or will I not be able to access the fields in the second method without creating an instance of the class in the code that responds to the page request(basically if you create an instance of a class at application level can you use that instance from within code anywhere in your website as long as it is public)?
As a newbie coming from a Java background with tag libraries I wonder if there is a simple possibility to render areas depending on backend values. For example if I have search form I do not want to render the table for the search results as long as the user hasn't pressed the search button. Of course I can iterate over the model containing an empty list but this does not allow to suppress rendering the whole table.Using web forms I would just control the visibility of the affected tag(s) in the code behind file but how do I do this with ASP.NET MVC?Can I use a partital view for a case like this? But I think I would have the same problem. How can I determine if a partial view is rendered (e.g. the whole result table with header)?
I have a set of three dropdowns using the cascadingdropdown extender from the toolkit. It is setup and working fine for saving off user selections to the database. How do i set them when a user comes back to the page to the users saved selections. I use a webservice to set the data for each dropdown as the parent dropdown is selected.
I m facing a problem in clearing user name and password fields saved in IE and FireFox. I tried Assigning empty string to my text boxes on page load but that didt worked. The only way that worked for me was to assign " " space to my text boxes. But that way on tab event mu cursor is not moving to next control rather it first removes space from text box and then moves to next control. I need to fix this ASAP, Can any one help me out with this.
I am validating user from Login.xlsx file. It was working fine by validating email and password from that file. For testing i got new file same contents of file but added some more user names. So after that when i validating the user i am getting the following error "Data type mismatch in criteria expression".
But when i replaced the new to old one it is working fine. The contens of both files are the same. So why this kind of error happened.
In my webpage I have a textbox where the user can type information that they want to search by. I need to take the user input and build a sql query to return records. I have tested my query in sql and it works hardcoding parameters, however I am having trouble getting the user input dynamically and populating my query string. how to get the user input to populate my query string?
I want to add a search field and have search results display in a user-friendly format on an employee intranet. Does anyone know what component(s) I can drag over from the toolbox to create these two items?
I have two text boxes for the user to enter UserName & First Name, both these fields are optional and not mandatory to fill.
once the user presses the Search button, i execute the following query to fetch matching records.

The problem is, in cases where User leaves both the textbox or one of the textbox empty/blank, in that case that particular field should be removed from where clause.
More like if something is entered then search for that particular record otherwise search for all the records.
