MVC :: Keeping Track Of User Information Between POST And GET?

Dec 28, 2010

The Register action gets called in the Account controller, showing the RegisterViewModel in the Register.aspx view. The form in Register.aspx is submitted/posted with answers to all of the form questions, except for the security question answers. If the user is created successfully, then I'd like to go to the GoToSecurityQuestions view using the code - return RedirectToAction("GoToSecurityQuestions", "Account"); I need to be able to keep track of the user name or ID of the newly created user so that I can persist the security questions to the database records related to the user. What's the best way to keep track of the user info between the [HttpPost] Register( ) and the [HttpGet] GoToSecurityQuestions( ) ?

[HttpGet]
public ViewResult Register()
{ return View(new RegisterViewModel()); }

Architecture :: Keeping Information In Memory That Any User Can Access Easily?

Mar 20, 2010

I want to read some information from an xml file and store it ready in memory so that it can go out with every page response without being reloaded from the xml on every request.

What is the best way of doing this?

It looks to me like there are 2 options. Either create a class with static fields that the information is stored in. Or create a class with public fields that the info is stored in and create an instance of that class at application level.

Is that correct, are both of those options viable? or will I not be able to access the fields in the second method without creating an instance of the class in the code that responds to the page request(basically if you create an instance of a class at application level can you use that instance from within code anywhere in your website as long as it is public)?

I'm making a small portal in ASP.net (with C#.net4) where users can login and add, edit their personal information (PI). But I don't get how to load information (stored in a SQL server DB) in the page when a specific user is logged in.

For example: If Sam is logged in, he can view his PI. When Vicky is logged in, she can view her PI.

Keeping Scroll Bar Position And Div Tag Positions During Post Back

Feb 26, 2010

I have a .Net Web page that refreshes every few minutes, and all of this works fine. However, a user has made a request for some enhancements. There are two requests, which I am little unsure how to do

1) On my page are scrollable panels, what the user would like is for the position of the scrollbars to maintain their scrollable position during postbacks, because the scrollbars return to the top of panel during each post back. How do I keep the scrollable position of the panels - I have only 3 panels to content with

2) Inside each panel, are dynamically added controls, and these controls have an image button with some javascript which hides or shows a div tag. What the user wants is to maintain the show or hide of a div tag on each of these dynamically added controls during post back. How do I do this?

Web Forms :: A Post From Web Form Got Lost. How To Track?

May 7, 2010

I work on a HR application for Internal people.One of my staff member is caliming that he applied for a job, but we do not have any entry in the database for applicants and no error in Log4net.

The staff member calims that he clicked on the Apply Button. And when we checked the IIS log we found one entry by that user in the IIS event viewer. Now how to determine if the person actaully clicked the apply now button or not.This is a serous issue for us as he is very upset as the Advertising for that position is taken off and he cannot apply now.

How to investigate? Also does IIS logs all POSTS and GET Requests?ur system Admin passed me an error log from the event viewer.Which is something like this:

AJAX :: Dynamically Built Accordion Controls / Keeping Only The Basic Empty Structure, And Re-build It All In A Single Post To The Server?

Apr 27, 2010

I have a dialogue window that contains an Accordion Control that is dynamically built. The only thing that appears on my source page is the opening and closing tags for the control. The panes and the controls that appear on the panes are all added dynamically based on records in a database.

Now here is my situation, if a certian action is performed on one of the controls then I want to save that controls data and make it no longer available for use, this was easily accomplished by having the control hide itself. An issue arises though when I have hidden all of the controls on a certain pane, the header for the pane still exists and this is not the desired result.

What I would like is to be able to dynamically remove the entire contents of the control and then re-build it. Due to the timing of the events in the page post back sequence, a simple call to the method that builds the control will not work and if an explanation is required I will provide one. Also, looping through all of the panes and the controls on each pane will not work since after the first pass through the loop the panes collection is mutated, the enum table for the control is no longer correct since the initial pane has been removed, as a result the for loop throws an error.

Can any one come up with a way that I can clear out the control, keeping only the basic empty structure, and re-build it all in a single post to the server?

AJAX :: Keeping The User In Appropriate Form Location - Setting Focus?

Feb 1, 2011

I used Ajax collapsible extenders (1 to 9) with formviews in each of them on a web form.

They are all collapsed by default. If the user enters data in collapsible 5 formview and submits data, the page refreshes back to the top of the page (where the collapsible 1 is positioned). I would like the focus to stay in the region the user is working (even after insert/submit operations). How can I do this.

AJAX :: How To Keep Track Of Which Tab The User Has Selected

Jan 15, 2011

using vs2008, asp.net, c# .net3.5 In this control;s ActiveTabChanged event, the ActiveTabIndex property stays 0 no matter which of the 3 tabs I select. Why is that? I want to keep track of which tab the user has selected and store this in the seesion variable so when refresh or bookmark by the user is would done properly. I was advised to possibly do this by saving the ActTab instead of the ActiveTabIndex. The problem then is how do I set the ActiveTab of the Tabcontainer, I mean how do I cast the Seesion variable so I can assign it like tabScien.ActiveTab = (castType)(Session["SavedActiveTab"]);

Security :: How To Concerns With Allowing Post Login Information

Oct 5, 2010

I have a third party company that we need to allow they users to pass into our website without loging in. TO keep it easy I was thinking of having them post to a custom login page on my site.

So their code would be something like this:

[Code]....

My landing/login page would do soemthign liek this.

[Code]....

My question is whether there are any security issues when using this kind of method? I am not sure yet what their site is written in. I figured that they could figure out how to do the post as long as I have the landing page for them and there is no security issues.

C# - Hold Temporary Information In Gridview Before Post Back?

Mar 28, 2011

I have a Dialog (Modal), where I'll register one (or several) contact.

the contact goes to a gridview, where they may be edited or deleted.

the data in the Gridview, can only be saved in the database at the end of the process.

How can I achieve this?

Modal code

[Code]....

OBS.:

I don't have a good sample of CSharp or html code, 'cuz i don't know how to achieve this. All my code look messy atm (trying a lot of things already) My GridView is an ascx, and the modal is in the same ascx. I belive some temporary table, or something like this will help, but i never did something like it (looks like a shop cart software), and i don't even know how look for it.

EDIT:

i did this code:

CSharp code:

[Code]....

i create one temporary gridview, but the data is empty, i tried pull it from my text in the modal, but i was not able to, i'm i'm not familiar in how i'll get the data from gridview to my database. (i believe this is the easier part, then i not focused at it in the moment)

Custom Server Controls :: Building A User Control To Track Page Visits?

Mar 25, 2011

My intention is to give the user a flexible user control on a master page that does the following:

When navigating, a child page will pass the URL (with querystring) and PageTitle to the user control. The user control will take those two parameters and insert them as a "breadcrumb" object at first index of a List<breadcrumb> collection

This part works fine through the use of a Repeater with a LinkButton contained in an ItemTemplate. The user sees each of the pages he has been visiting in descending order, the provided benefit is a quick way to re-open records they have recently modified or created.

The part I'm having trouble handling is what happens when the user clicks the LinkButton, which is that the child page adds a new reference to the URL at the beginning of the List<> collection and I cannot seem to control the behavior of removing the LinkButton before it gets re-created. What I've tried doing is:

List<>.RemoveAt(RepeaterCommandEventArgs.Item.ItemIndex);
Repeater1.Controls.Clear();
Repeater1.DataSource = List<>;
Repeater1.DataBind();

While that should work, my CreateBreadCrumb(string url, string title) function gets called by the child page before the UserControl detects the Repeater1_ItemCommand event, so in effect it appears that the wrong ItemIndex is being used for removal.
