View 6 RepliesI have a pretty basic search feature on a site that queries a sqldb with a sqldarasource, and then displays the results on a page, in a panel within a Repeater. I'd like to figure out if it's possible to somehow highlight the words the user searched on as they are displayed in the search results. The code below is my repeater. Do you know of any way to manipulate the Title or Description if the words in it's body match the words searched?

In that column some times City is given and somtime it is not provided means only Region and state.

I have tried the SUBString but it works on no. of characters but for different city and regions the no.

I have a SQL Server table with a number of fields that are defined with the "Float" data type. I'm running a simple query to retrieve the data from this table and use it to populate a Data Table in my C#.net application.
I just discovered that the data type of the Data Table fields is Double, not Float as I expected. As such, when I store a value like 0.157 it ends up getting stored like this: 0.15700000524520874
I'm aware that such extra "noise" occurs when such a conversion occurs. My major question has to do with why .Net didn't set the Data Type to Float (ie. Single) when the table was first populated?
I'm trying to set the "time" value stored in a date time field, in other words, I want to change the value

how to select a specific field data from DB

I thought this would be easy but cannot now find out of to do it. All I want to do is execute an sql query on a table and in addition to the table's columns I want to also select/output a field that is calculated within the query. The table has a column "Owner" and I want to compare this to the UserId to produce a bool column "mine". Effectively doing:Select *, (Owner=@UserId) as mine where.....however, this doesn't work so how can I calculate a column in the select statement?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to write a stored procedure that takes out a list of blog entries from a table (tblFeedEntry) as well as the amount of comments that each blog entry has gotten (tblFeedComments) but all I can get is the total amount of comments of all blog entries together, displayed on all entries. I am guessing that the problem is that the declared variable is not picking up the id of the blog entries, instead it picks up everything. The original select and the select in the declared variable are not connected. How do I connect them?
I need to get two fields from a database table (retrieved using linq-to-sql), one field is a datetime (and is a fixed field) and the other is always a decimal, but the field can be different.
The table holds currency data which is processed twice a day and in different currencies so could have fields such as AM_USD, PM_USD, AM_EUR etc. And I need to get data such as a list of the date against PM_USD or the date against AM_EUR.
I would like to be able to call the data using a lambda expression for example (this is a stripped out example):

I have been trying to write a function to do this, and am failing dismally.

I am moving to the world of ASP.NET from an Access VBA / VB6 background and having read a few books on the subject I am still confused about communicating with SQL server in VB with ASP.NET.
As a very quick explination I am used to communicating with the server by passing strings containing the data I want to write (or read) such as:

I do not seem to be able to work out from ALAX, Dynamic Data, Bound Controls, DataViews, connecting to services with SOAP, DataSources and all of the other methods of database communication in ASP.NET which is the right system to do the simple reads and writes in SQL that I want to do.
At present I have a page with all of the controls on it required to collect a block of data I want to insert, it is all now fully validated but although I can build the SQL INSERT command in a string I cannot figure out how to fire it over to the local SQL Express server. Am I even doing this correctly or do I need to look at other controls?

I have a page with a Listbox and GridView.
The Listbox has a list of students. The Gridview has a list of classes offered during a period, such as:
Math Science English etc. When I click a student in the Listbox, I call a sproc via Linq, and get the ClassID and ClassTitle that student is registered for.
What I need to do is Highlight the record in the GridView that matches the ClassID or ClassTitle returned by the sproc.
Previously, I used a ListBox for the Class Offerings. This is easy with a Listbox using the FindByText method:

I've been searching in all the forums, and websites for the last 4 hours without finding a solution for a problem that in the beginning I tought it was an easy one!!!This is my problem, I have a gridview with the following colums: select (link), Room Type (for hotels), and TotalThe total field Is a template field it has in the custom binding property a function: find_total(Eval("Room")) this function makes some calculation and returns the calculated Total value, and shows in the gridview without problems,The thing I cant do is: when the user clicks on the select link I want to get the text of the template field and put in a label control.
I tried, almost all the events of the datagrid, to reference the content of my template field but sometimes I receive a null value (seems that Im looking for the value before the find_total function has been executed) or I get an error "the index is out of range".I dont know how to approach this, I tought It has to be much easier, but Im very confused right now, if anybody knows how to do this
