How to row lock in SQL Server 2005. I execute a sql for row locking and that is

it work fine but in this case row is lock for update not for selection. I just want to know how to lock a row as a result another user can not see that row when issue a SQL in SQL Server. please guide me. thanks
i develop a c# windows application. My database is sql server 2008 exp. i want lock single row for user select it for update. for example;
userA - Connection a (connection id 52);
user select a single row (select * from t1 with(rowlock?, updlock?,or what) where id=1) and bind data to form fields (texbox, checkbox,combobox etc.). (there is no problem)
userB - Connection b (connection id 54);
userB can select all other rows from t1 (where id=2 or 3 or anything) but not id=1. when userB select * from t1 where id=1 system generate an exception with (you cannot select this row because it is updated. Updated users connection id is 52.)
when userA (connectionid52) close form or commit changes then userB can select id=1.

I have a series of reports that run off a one table. The problem is, I have to read in data from a flat file from a large data source in order to update my SQL table. Right now, I read the tables in then the last thing I do is truncate the table I report from, fill the table with the necessary data and run a few small stored procedures to update some of the fields. Then the users are ready to run their reports.
Is there a better way to do this or a way I can lock them out while the table is filling and updating?

I develop an application using LINQ to SQL. Recently I deploy the application on server and starts performance testing using WAPT for 100 users. Unfortunately, 90 requests are failed while placing an order and only 10 are passed. I analyse and found that for every failed request I got an error "System Exception: Transaction (Process Id 68) was Deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction."

These are not stored in the wwwroot folder but in another folder i.e. C:inetpubdata. This provides more security but maybe not enough. The ASP.NET/IIS process will need write access to this folder so it generate the PDFs there.
Once the pdf is generated, it can be viewed using an ASP.NET form called viewpdf.aspx with the file to be viewed add to the query string like so viewpdf.aspx?FILE=mynewfile.pdf. This is loaded from a gridview.
The full path to C:inetpubdata is resolved and loaded in the Page_load event of the viewer page. Now I'm wondering how to secure this. Anybody could just view the file. Not by entering in the URL, as it won't been seen by IIS (its not in wwwroot), but could change the querystring in the viewpdf page.
How do I stop anybody hacking this?

on upload_click , i have to do a processing which takes very long time,
because i am finding latitude and longitude from the google by reading that excel file.
and i wanted that when used click on CANCEL button the process should stop.
i have created a thread on upload_click and doing all this stuff in that thread .
when user clicks on CANCEL , i am aborting that thread.
but when user again tries to upload file , i am getting the error that file is in use .
to solve this problem i have to stop aspnet_wp.exe from task manager and have to try again .
I have 2 dropdownlists, the second (department) cascades from the first (division). I use a jquery script to update the second drop down list. When the user clicks submit, the underlying model is updated, apart from the new value for department. 2 ideas I have for fixing this are; a) Generate a postback. Prefer not to do this because of bad user experience. b) With a JQuery change event, make a call to server side and set a ViewData variable that I can use to update the field in the model later.
However there must be a better way. This is the view;

I have the following scenarion. I have a range of drop down menus where a clietn can select. The code below is wrapped in an update panel but without this, the button click fires a method to retrieve the number of products. So for example, an item is selected from ddlCategory, the btnValidate is clicked and the label returns the number of products within that category.I have the following code for an update panel - I'm just not sure how to implement if effectively.

I have a formview tied to a gridview. The formview shows the data for the row selected in the gridview. The formview is invisible by default , default mode is readonly and becomes visible only on Selecting a row in the gridview. I make it visible in the SelectedIndexchanged event of the gridview. There are Insert and update buttons present outside the formview which perform the insert and update manually using code-behind.
After an insert or update on the formview, how do I retain the gridview selection?
I have a asp:ListBox wrapped inside an asp:UpdatePanel. The list box contains Bus Codes. If I select AH, for example, and then scroll down to select XY, the listbox jumps back up to the top of the list instead of staying on XY. Listbox's autopost back is set to True. As I need to get selected values and then pass it to another web page to display a crystal report. The report web page is opened using JavaScript Window.Open and on page load of the web page that contains the listbox this JavaScript is added to a button. Is there a way I can stop my list box jumping back to the 1st item?

I have a stored procedure which fetches data after joining 8-9 tables and inserts that into a temp table. It was running fine till now, but now when the amount of data fetched have exceeded 20000, the SP is breaking. I have debugged the sp and found that this main query is failing after returning arround 15000-16000 records.
The error message says Transaction (Process ID) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. I know what is deadlock, but when i checked with SP_LOCK stored proc i only found that my process is running on database only. So how is this getting deadlocked when there are no other processes running simultaneously on server.
I was wondering if anyone can help me work out what the user has selected in this selection changed event?his is what I have so far:

I have a function that checks for a username and if it finds the username it will allow the user to update the user, there are 3 main columns: Name,Age,isFemale. I have the enduser supply the information and then I try to update the record but I get a sql error for "not a valid" column.console app:

I get an error that column isFemale is not valid. The isFemale column is a bit type. If it's a 1, it's a female, if 0 male. this is more of a test area and I'm trying to update records or create new one's if the name does not exist.II am new to C # and I am just trying to learn new ideas and methods within C sharp.
I have a vb.net page that has an optional parameter. If a user enters data for that field, and clicks save, it saves fine via the stored procedure. HOWEVER, if the user changes their mind, and wants to erase the data they entered, they go to the text field, and delete the characters, and click save, but no matter what, the stored procedure will not save the fact that they erased the data (it won't set it back to NULL). If the user enters a space, the stored procedure will save the space, and if they enter different data, it will save the other data. I can't figure out how to get it back to letting them set it to Null? I think this is because it's an optional parameter, and the stored proc is used by several forms (Some of those forms do not include this parameter), but this form utilizes that optional paramater.

The query works fine but I need to modify my selection for fields 'glmcu' (BusinessUnit) and 'glsub' (CostCenter). Instead of hard coding the selection I will need to retrieve the selection (and grouping) from another table.
Table layout:

I am currently building a web site and I utilize cascading drop down lists. I am having difficulty clearing two of my drop downs. The application is utilizing Visual Basis. Here is what I found through my research but they are not resetting my drop downs after a post back:
