I want to build a select query on the below resultset
[Code]....
[Code]....
The query will select the first n rows whose quantity is equals to the sum of my provided value i.e. 10
Now in the case of providing the value 10 the first 3 rows will select as the sum of 5,4, and 1 is equals to 10.

i have a select statement which returns a column value.
id like to display the lowest column value there is, but if there are multiple rows with the same (and lowest) value id like it to be random which one of the rows is selected.. how would i do this? my select statement is currently:
SELECT TOP (1) url, ABS(r1 - @r1) + ABS(r2 - @r2) AS difference
FROM type
ORDER BY difference
this picks the one lowest result for me, but if there are multiple duplicate lowest results id like to select them, and show one at random..?

I need to create a script that accesses data from a few tables, one of the table is from a database that resides on a different SQL server. Does some one know the syntax for accessing a different server in a select statement. I tried the following
SELECT top 2 * FROM [myservery01].mydatabase.dbo.mytable
but it gave this error:
Could not find server in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary execute the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to the sys.servers
This is a SQL server 2008 environment.

I am trying to write a stored procedure that takes out a list of blog entries from a table (tblFeedEntry) as well as the amount of comments that each blog entry has gotten (tblFeedComments) but all I can get is the total amount of comments of all blog entries together, displayed on all entries. This is how my code looks today:
[Code]....
I am guessing that the problem is that the declared variable is not picking up the id of the blog entries, instead it picks up everything. The original select and the select in the declared variable are not connected. How do I connect them?

I have one big DataTable with X rows. I want to select Y rows from it and bind them to a new ViewList. While doing it, I want to delete these rows from the DataTable (Having X - Y rows).
What is the best and fast way to do it?
I don't know if it is better to create a new DataTable to have the Y and after that bind them to a ViewList or something else?
I'm also looking for example in code how to select/delete rows from DataTable.

I am moving to the world of ASP.NET from an Access VBA / VB6 background and having read a few books on the subject I am still confused about communicating with SQL server in VB with ASP.NET.
As a very quick explination I am used to communicating with the server by passing strings containing the data I want to write (or read) such as:
[Code]....
I do not seem to be able to work out from ALAX, Dynamic Data, Bound Controls, DataViews, connecting to services with SOAP, DataSources and all of the other methods of database communication in ASP.NET which is the right system to do the simple reads and writes in SQL that I want to do.
At present I have a page with all of the controls on it required to collect a block of data I want to insert, it is all now fully validated but although I can build the SQL INSERT command in a string I cannot figure out how to fire it over to the local SQL Express server. Am I even doing this correctly or do I need to look at other controls?

I have a gridview which right now is getting loaded with four pages of data. There are 50 rows per page. My problem is I need the "select all" button on my page to select 180 rows, not just the 50 on the page. This is my javascript:
Code:
function sel() {
var frm = document.forms[0];
isSelected = !isSelected;
for (var i = 0; i < frm.elements.length; i++) {
var e = frm.elements[i];
if (e.type == 'checkbox' && e.name.indexOf("ckSelected") > -1)
e.checked = isSelected;
}
}
I am more a C# person than javascript, but I am deducing that I need something other than document.forms[0] to represent the entire gridview. Or perhaps, I can't do this in javascript at all. Do I need server code to run and set a session variable, then when the user clicks the button to do something with all his selected rows (it goes to a detail page), query that session variable to see if it's all rows instead of iterating through each gridview row individually to see if the checkbox is checked?

I have a large database of user profile data. I need to be able to compare 1 row against all of the other rows, for all columns to find the best match.There are around 30 columns of data for each row. I need to be able to find the 5 best matching rows.
I.E.
Row 1 matches on 2 column's
Row 2 matches on 12 column's
Row 3 matches on 7 column's
Row 4 matches on 4 column's
Row 5 matches on 9 column's
Row 6 matches on 23 column's
Row 7 matches on 29 column's
In the end it will show me the data for rows 7, 6, 2, 5, 3 Now to make it even harder, Some of the columns are bit, some are varchar.Some of them may be a direct match, some will need to search if the column for row2 contains the text of row 1.

I am accessing rows in an SQL database table based upon the contents of the Primary key and another column. But, I cannot insert new rows in the table when the content of the new Primary key column already exists in another row. Can I define the table with a multiple column Primary key so that a unique value can be based upon the content of both columns?
