I have a question regarding routing and an issue that I am currently having in my application. I have an action, providers/List/, which accepts two parameters, a zipCode and a page value for paging results. I have defined this route as follows in my global.asax, /providers/{zipCode}/{page}
I have created another action in this controller, Dashboard, which does not expect any parameters, so I am assuming that the route would ultimately be /providers/dashboard, if I am not mistaken. What is happening is that for some reason I am getting a routing error regarding zipCode not being a non-nullable type. It makes me think that the first action's route is what is getting hit instead of going to the dashboard action. I am sure that it has something to do with the route entry that I have made in my global.asax file.
We have a spreadsheet that has a Zip column. These zip has a plus 4 digit in this format 99999-9999. When I looked at the format of this cell, it was a Special format with Zip+4 type. I just need to get the 5 digit zip code but the problem I am running into is the leading 0s. I tried =LEFT(A2, 5) but this trims the leading 0s. I also tried highligiting the column, then DATA -> Text to Columns -> Delimeter with hyphen but that didn't work. Is there any other way to do this or am I missing something on my first two attempts. Please let me know if you need more clarifications.

View 1 RepliesI created a UserControl and added a public DateTime property. I want to set this property in Markup (ie. <cc1:MyControl runat="server" id="MyControl1" DateTimeProp="1/1/2010" /> ) however I live in a place with a dd/mm/yyyy date format so it complains if I set something like "20/1/2010". Is there a way to set markup in my local datetime format or do I have to conform to "mm/dd/yyyy"?
View 2 RepliesI have a problem:
I've created usual Controller and View(Edit view) for editing my Entity (EntityFramework)
Here is view example:
<div class="editor-field">
@Html.EditorFor(model => model.BirthDate)
@Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.BirthDate)
</div>
BirthDate is Nullable<DateTime>
but during loading my View I get this exception
The model item passed into the dictionary is null, but this dictionary requires a non-null model item of type 'System.DateTime'.
That's because of BirthDate is null in database but it is nullable and I expect that it just leaves the filed empty.
And I have Shared EditorTemplate:
@model System.Nullable<System.DateTime>
@if (Model.HasValue)
I have an XML string which contains Dates formatted "dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss".
I'm loading this XML into a dataset using DataSet.ReadXml().
How can I ensure that this Date is stored in the DataSet as a typed DateTime so that I can Sort, Format and RowFilter on it accordingly.
My test harness is as below:
ASPX Page:
[code]....
obj.From = DateTime.Parse(txtFrom.Text, ci);
And it will give error String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. How it can be solved..

Just curious if subdomains can be generated dynamically. For example say I have [URL]. In a SQL DB is a list of cities. Can these be used to generate new subdomain for each city? (ie [URL], [URL], etc.) Or do I have to create every sub domain I want manually?

My site is going to display content based on a city. So, if a user comes directly to my site, I am going to default them to say for instance:
www.mysite.com/cincinnati
I need to be able to handle two scenarios here. One, when they come directly to my site ('/'), I need to somehow redirect to my default city and 2, show an error page if they type in an invalid city. Any thoughts? I saw the route constraint, but how do you deal with invalid scenarios like showing an error page when the constraint fails?
I'm trying to write a Javascript Zip Code lookup utility.
1) The User will select a State from a drop down.
2) The City Drown Down will then be populated based on the State selected
3) A textbox below is then populated with the corresponding Zip Code(s) based on Selected State and Zip Code on an ASP.NET page.
Problem: I get the error Request() is not defined which causes the application to hault when a State is selected.
What should I cahnge in the following code?
<script language="javascript">
var request = new Request();
var url = "";
function getZipCode()
{
request.GetNoCache(url + "getZipCode.aspx?City=" +document.getElementById("drpCity").options[document.getElementById("drpCity").selectedIndex].value+ "&State=" +document.getElementById("drpStateSearch").options[document.getElementById("drpStateSearch").selectedIndex].value,

View 1 RepliesI have to do the following.
There is a database (SQL Server) with locations (longitude and latitude values). I need to plot the route on the map (Google or otherwise) based on those locations extracted from database. Plotting lines and map are on ASP.NET webpage.
What would be the most and cost-effective way to accomplish the task above?
Now i'm working on the cascading dropdownlist for to bind a country and city, city is based on country dropdownlist. its working well , if city comes more than 8000 records in city dropdownlist , takes more to bind city.
View 1 RepliesI know there has to be a way to do this but for some reason I keep getting it wrong. I have one query which pulls all of the cities from a zipcode database like so:
[Code]....
Then I have another which counts the records from a transactions table per city, like so:
[Code]....
Only the zipcode is stored in the transactions table, so the idea here is to get a list off all the distinct cities that reside in the state. Once I have the cities, I want a count for each city as a whole, so I need to go back in and get all of the zipcodes that make up one city, and then count the transactions for those zipcodes. It works using the first query above, looping through them and then executing the second for every pass. But shouldn't there be a way to do it all in one query?
