VS 2010 Linking To Page URLS That Will Change
Mar 3, 2011
I am currently working on a project which involves creating many web controls, some of these web controls have buttons and links which post to aspx pages. However these pages are likely to change and could again change in future. It would be nice if I could list the pages as names in a config file and the resolve page name and do a lookup so when they change I just change the config file rather than all the controls. Firstly is this possible and/or is there a better method? It would also be good if there was somekind of chaching method so we dont actually have to query the file everytime.

In my masterpage, I have a menu that hosts an anchor. That anchor points to a another page and looks like this:
ASP.NET Code:
<a href="../resources/techs/masterlist.aspx">BOMs & Service Manuals</a>
I used the designer to input the href location. This page and the "masterlist" page are using the same masterpage.
When I run default.aspx and click that link, it works no problem. But when I click that link from the masterlist page, it throws an exception because it can't find the file. Which makes sense, it's looking for "/resources/resources/techs/masterlist.aspx" because that page is already within that directory. I know how to format that link you point to itself no problem, but I can't figure out how to do it so that I don't have to manually change each page, nulling the purpose of the masterpage.

I have recently updated a website. All of the urls have changed. Now I get traffic to old urls that doesn't exist anymore. However, most of these url's have corresponding pages on the new site. I believe most of the traffic to the old urls are spiders. What would be the correct way to handle this?
Preferably I'd like a solution that gives a nice experience for the real users if they type in an old url (or use an old bookmark they've made) but that also notifies the spiders of the change of url, so that they can update their registers. However, if the two are hard to combine, the last one is prioritized (since most of the traffic is spiders). I'm using ASP.NET

i have a function that pulls URLs from various web resources. needless to say some are full valid URLS and some are relative as per the HTML of the page. below is my asp.net/ c# logic i derived for examining the URL and then generate a full usable URL from whats pulled from the site...
NOTE:
origianlurl is the full url of the first searched page, and relativeUrl is a url found within the searched page (it can be a full www.site.com or a /contactus.html)
private string ResolveRelativePaths(string relativeUrl, string originatingUrl)
{
if (relativeUrl.StartsWith("http") || relativeUrl.StartsWith("www"))
return relativeUrl;
if (relativeUrl.StartsWith("/"))
{
//get main url something.com

Here's an odd one.
I have a master page with links to other pages in the site. Those links use tilde paths (like "~/dir1/page2.aspx"). On most of the pages in the site that use this master page, there is no problem. The problem only seems to be on a few pages that use the master page, the links are VERY wrong, it tries to use the ~ as part of the link (so they are[URL]. It's as if it is treating the tilde as a literal under certain

This might sound like a stupid question, but here is what I want:in an aspx page in Sharepoint wiki, there's a section that I can insert rich text and html code. Here I want to transfer plain html pages to sharepoint wiki.The original html page has many in-page links, like "/Build_Environment/SQL/macs.html#CREATE_TABLE" where links to a section called "Create_Table" in the same page.How would this be done in aspx page? Is it something can be rewritten in html format so that in aspx page, the html section will also work as before?

I'm trying to solve an issue in an elegant way. The problem at hand is I have 2 aspx pages (I'll call then Page1.aspx and Page2.aspx).
Page1.aspx contains an AJAX tab control with 3 tabs (I'll call the control Tab1). Page2.aspx also contains an AJAX control with 3 tabs (I'll call the control Tab2).
My question is, is there an elegant way to have a hyperlink on the second tab of the Tab1 control that links to the thrid tab on the Tab2 control? And, is there a way this linkage can be represented as a web address (example : http:\someserversomeappsomepage.aspx???TabControlIdentifier,???TabNumber.
The current methodology we are implementing is to pass the TabControlID and Tab number as querystring values and the set the focus in the codebehind of the page. But the only way I can think of to implement this across multiple pages is to have all the receiving pages implement the same overriding class that handles the focus issue.

I have a list of strings where by each string is a url to a pdf document. All I want to do is cycle through this list and display each url as a hyperlink on my page. I've seen this done before in MVC where the collection is made avaliable to the view and you can just do a foreach etc etc but I don't know how to do it on a normal asp.net page...

So I created a website in visual studio 2010 and I transfer it to my web host.
The problem is the webhost has the a file structure like this:
[URL]
And I put all my files in wwwroot, and it works fine on the web.
But now in VS, since I had to add [URL] folders, I am getting compile errors that say "This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS".
So my question is - how do I either A) change the root application for IIS on my machine to be at the wwwroot levelB) change VS to let me copy files from the root directory in VS to the [URL] dirctory.

We use MS ReportViewer version 10.0.0.0 to pull the report from SSRS to ASP page.
Part of ReportViewer source code is shown below: (thru MS Developer Tools)
<div id="ctl00_RootContent_c_ReportViewer_ctl10" style="position: relative; width: 100%; height: 100%; overflow: auto;" _events="[object Object]" control="[object Object]">
We'd like to change the style="position: relative..." to style="position: static..."
How can we do it?
It seems that whenever ReportViewer refreshes, the CSS values will be reset back to default one.
How can I create my own CSS file for ReportViewer?

Code:
<div id="title1" class="title">
<h2>Recruitment Admin</h2><h3> </h3>
</div>
It is not always Recruitment Admin. Sometimes it is Co-sponsored Admin. I know which is which from a query string.How do I access that text to change it accordingly?

I got a asp: label (hidden by css) to which I store something.
I could not use a hiddenfield since you cannot set a css class on it. I need a css class so I can select it in jQuery. I cannot select by Id since asp.net webforms change your id. I cannot use xxxxx.ClientId, since my jQuery script isn't on that form (oh oh, i miss my mvc)
Anyhow, I pop up a dialog, let the user type sth in. When the dialog closes, I set that label to whatever the use typed in the dialog. That work (I'm testing for now using some alerts) but when I add a button, and in it's click event check the value of taht label, it is still what it originally have been though.
Here is the content of my usercontrol (at run time add as many as needed of them to my view):
Code:
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="DisputeEntry.ascx.cs" Inherits="TimeSheetDispute.DisputeEntry" %>
<p class="field switch">
<asp:label runat="server" class="disputeReason" ID="disputeReason"></asp:label>
[Code] ....
And in my page, the code that deal with it:
Code:
// Brings up a jQuery UI Dialog containing a textarea to which the user can enter a dispute
// Upon close, place that reason in the hidden input we keep for each date.
function GetDisputeReason(parent) {
var disputeReasonElement = $('.disputeReason', parent);
var existingDispute = disputeReasonElement.val();
var win = $('<div><p>Enter your reason for dispute:</p></div>');
var userInput = $('<textarea style="width:100%">' + existingDispute + '

I need to be able to change a row's back color in the GridView based on the value in each row's second cell.
But, I'm having some trouble looping through each row. I thought the following might work:
VB.NET Code:
For Each gvi As GridViewRow In Me.gvTechPPE.Rows
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "New Entry", "alert ('" & gvi.Cells(1).Text & "')", True) Next
I ran that just as a test. An alert pops up, but only for the first item in the GridView. All the others are skipped.
