VS HTML Designer Tag Hierarchy Links / Should Bar On The HTML Designer Show The Tag Name

Mar 29, 2010

Should bar on the HTML designer show the tag name? It sometimes does!

Here's an image of what I referring to.

I thought for sure it must be a bug but considering that I heard that MS was rewriting the editor (designer too?) I am starting to question whether I know how to use it!

Note the "TD" tooltip on the bottom right. Shouldn't this "TD" appear on the bar on the far right where the mouse would be?

Custom Server Controls :: Composite Control Designer / In The Html View, Tags Are Not Updated?

Jan 22, 2010

I'm trying to develope a collapsible panel control with designer.

I have the following two classes:

[Code]....

and this one:

[Code]....

In fact, the designer class is a copy of a sample class in MSDN and I only tried to customize it to work for me. I'm not sure if all methods are necessary or not.

I have the following two questions:

1- When I use this contrl in design mode, I can add or delete controls to it, in the html view, tags are not updated. so when I close the page and open it again, all changes are lost.

2- I have added this control to the same asp.net project that is using this control. Isn't there any way to have this controil in tool box?

Make HTML Links Show Hover Style?

Aug 24, 2010

I have some HTML markup in my ASP.NET master page representing a basic navigation menu. THree words that link to three pages. My CSS and HTML are included below for your reference.

When I load the page, the links appear with the correct color (red). If I hover over a link, the link changes to the correct color (blue). So far, we're good. Clicking a link changes the link color to the correct color (yellow). The two remaining links are still red / blue as expected. Clicking a second link changes that link to yellow also. Now I have two yellow links. Neither yellow link displays the hover color (blue) like I'd prefer. Clicking the third link causes it to be yellow, too and none of the links display the hover style.

Although a link has been clicked, I'd like the color to be stored and have the hover color displayed. How do I accomplish this? This is an ASP.NET web application project but I'm only using straight HTML at this point.

Forms Data Controls :: Show GridView Designer For Composite Control?

Apr 29, 2010

I'm working on building a an ASP.NET composite control that is a wrapper for a GridView object. I have been able to figure out how compose the control in order for the markup to appear correctly when added to an ASPX page. Now the issue I'm having is that when I drop an instance of the control on a form from the toolbox, I can't interact with the control using the functionality exposed by a GridView (e.g. columns editor, data source selector, etc.), and I don't see any design-time rendering of the child GridView control. What I would like to do is to basically forward the designer behavior of my composite control down to its child GridView control. I have experimented with implementing a custom designer class that inherits from GridViewDesigner that simply initializes itself using the GridView child of my composite control. However, this doesn't seem to work, as I encounter an "object reference not set to an instance of object" error at design time; I'm wondering if this is even the appropriate strategy to achieve what I'm looking for. how to enable GridView-like design time behavior in composite controls. I have scoured the Web looking for articles on how this is accomplished, but I've surprisingly found virtually no resources on the topic.

.net - The VS.NET Designer For My ASP.NET Pages Show "response Is Not Available In This Context" For All Controls?

Feb 7, 2011

I have a VS.NET solution that was originally a 3.5 VS.NET 2008 solution, now upgraded to VS.NET 2010 .NET Framework 4.0. I rarely use the 'Designer' tab to preview the generated controls of my ASP.NET pages, but in this instance I want to to see the wizard of an Object Data Source Control.Now ALL of my pages (content pages of a single simple Master page) show the message "response is not available in this context" for all of my controls. I tied deleting the page from my project, adding a new page, and copying back in the source and code; same error. I also tried cutting out controls 1 at a time, and clicking "Refresh" in the designer but I can't find out the problematic issue. Remember every single page in my solution does this.

C# - Get All Links On Html Page?

Feb 11, 2010

Im working on a little hobby project. I already have written the code to get a url, download the header and return the mime type / content type.However, the step before this is the one im stuck on - i need to retrieve the contents of all the urls on the page based inside a tag, and in quotes i.e.

...
<link rel='shortcut icon' href="/static/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
...

Would find the favicon link.Is there anything helpful in the .net library or is this going to have to be a case for regex?

VS 2010 - Hierarchy With Edit / Delete Links

Right now I loop over all categories where the parent id is 0 (so they are root) and for each of those child categories I call a recursive function that add the child categories to the child nodes. Works fine. However, I (think) I'm going to do away with the asp:treeview since now, next to each Category I want an Edit and Delete Link.

How To Convert HTML To PDF With Hot Links In Outputted PDF

Aug 12, 2010

My company purchased ActivePDF WebGrabber a couple of years ago to convert a classic ASP created HTML page into a PDF form. The only drawback with the tool that we continually run into is that the outputted HTML links are not hot. Are there any tools that do include hot-links within the HTML to PDF output?

According to the ActivePDF FAQ for Does WebGrabber convert hyperlinks into usable links in the output PDF?, the answer is no. There is a phrase confusing me at the end of the answer:

"To implement links in the final PDF, the application would search for links prior to the Postscript generation, and append them once the PDF has been generated using Toolkit."

Does that mean this is how to achieve it, or is this their theoretical but not tested solution? If this is the solution, has anyone done this that might be able to post some sample (pseudo-)code?

Edit: I should mention that we're open to a different tool, and we need it to be accessible via classic ASP and ASP.NET. I would prefer a solution in which the links are automatically hot-linked during PDF generation.

Compiler On IIS Can't See Designer.cs Files?

Jan 11, 2011

I am trying to deploy a simple ASP.NET 4.0 Web Application on IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003.

I've copied all of the files over, including the bin folder and files Play.aspx, Play.aspx.cs and Play.aspx.designer.cs.

I get the following error when I try to access Play.aspx in the browser:

Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'divOutput' does not exist in the current context and then it quotes a line from my Play.aspx.cs file.

Now, divOutput does exist in the Play.aspx.designer.cs file. Why is the ASP.NET compiler on the server not picking this up? (And anyway, I've copied the bin folder, so why is it even trying to compile anything in the first place?)

ASP.Net Container Control Designer

Nov 19, 2010

I cannot figure out how to get my simple container control to properly display in the designer. Here is the basic markup of the custom control:
<div>
<div>Title</div>
<div>
<!-- ASP.Net child controls -->
</div>
</div>
Here is how it looks at runtime (title and then the child control is a GridView):
Here is the simple code for the basic container control:

namespace Shoe.Controls
//[Designer(typeof(ApplicationWindowDesigner))]
//[ParseChildren(false)]
//[PersistChildren(true)]
[ToolboxData("<{0}:ApplicationWindow runat="server"></{0}:ApplicationWindow>")]
public class ApplicationWindow : System.Web.UI.WebControls.Panel
{
#region Designer Properties
[Category("Appearance")]
[DefaultValue("Application")]
[Description("Title that will appear at the top of the Window.")]
[Browsable(true)]
public string Title
get{return (ViewState["ApplicationWindowTitle"] == null)?
string.Empty :
(string)ViewState["ApplicationWindowTitle"];}
set{ViewState["ApplicationWindowTitle"] = value;}
[code...]
As you see the code above, it is currently based off of the Panel control. However, I have also tried just using WebControl as the base class and then providing my own designer as follows:

namespace Shoe.Controls
public class ApplicationWindowDesigner : ContainerControlDesigner
//public class ApplicationWindowDesigner : ControlDesigner
public override void Initialize(IComponent component)
base.Initialize(component);
SetViewFlags(ViewFlags.DesignTimeHtmlRequiresLoadComplete, true);
[code...]

This is also what it looks like when I use WebControl as the base class for the control and use a designer based off of ContainerControlDesigner (child controld, but my title bar and divs are missing).What am I missing? I've found several examples of ContainerControlDesigner but none of them really add anything to the surrounding control like I am.

C# - How To Hide The Inner Controls Of A UserControl In The Designer

In the Designer of a ContentPage that uses that MasterPage I can see the DropDownList and the ObjectDataSource. See for yourself.

I know that other controls (like ComponentArt:Grid) only show themself as outer container and hide the inner controls.

I guess that is somehow achievable with attributes. Which ones do I have to set?

Hide AjaxControlToolKit Item In Designer?

Sep 23, 2010

I'm sure this isn't specific to the AjaxControlToolKit, but it is what is causing me issues. I've created a basic user control that essentially wraps a textbox and MaskedEditExtender because it will often be used on different pages. The designer of the control looks fine, but when I include it in a page, I see a box for the MaskedEditExtender, which gets a bit annoying when designing. It looks like this in the designer:

Is there a way to hide this box in the designer, so my control just shows up as a text box?
