I have an Asp.Net Web Application and there are all these designer files. The large app I work on at work doesn't have any designer files and it works fine. How can I get rid of these designer files and have them be auto-generated during the build?

I am trying to deploy a simple ASP.NET 4.0 Web Application on IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003.
I've copied all of the files over, including the bin folder and files Play.aspx, Play.aspx.cs and Play.aspx.designer.cs.
I get the following error when I try to access Play.aspx in the browser:
Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'divOutput' does not exist in the current context and then it quotes a line from my Play.aspx.cs file.
Now, divOutput does exist in the Play.aspx.designer.cs file. Why is the ASP.NET compiler on the server not picking this up? (And anyway, I've copied the bin folder, so why is it even trying to compile anything in the first place?)
I have a problem in which some nested controls on a page are not updated in the designer file. I have deleted the designer file, selected Convert to Web Application, but still the controls are missing.

Withing Microsoft's Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, I am trying to link an MS Access 2000 database to a web form using the Toolbox tool provided with the program. In the second dialog box where you specify the database to use, it shows that the Data_App folder is empty, yet in the windows explorer window the file is clearly there.
Is this a limitation of the evaluation version, too old of Access database file, or something stupid that I am doing? I gotta admit, I am a newby to .NET and ASP.NET, but I can create other aspx web forms with no problems.
I can connect to the MS Web Server, for instance.
I'd use MySQL, but it doesn't want to work on my computer.

i am using VS 2005 with Sql Server 2005 Business Inteligance Studio. All my reports are by default open in Xml editor, not in Report Desginer. how to change it to Report Desginer , i don't find any open with option .

I am using vs2010 and working on an ASP.Net Website my problem is the controls that I add to the designer surface disappear after I save and switch to code view. As shown in 'Fig1'

Description: When I am using the designer surface, I will drag on a series of SqlDataSources and configure them. I then either save and close or just switch back to code view, if I switch back to code view the SqlDataSources do not exist but when I swtch back to designer view they are there, if I save and close then re-open the newly added control are not there.
I have some aspx.designer.cs and .cs files that have disappeared due to some pc problems. This is for a tutorial I'm doing online. I've been able to download new aspx and aspx.cs files for this part. When I paste them into the directory and include them in the project I still don't have a aspx.designer.cs file. Is there a way to get this to be created while pasting the other files into the directory?
View 5 RepliesI am having some trouble with a panel that contains a table. The td's in the table contain labels separated by <br />. Pretty simple. It looks fine in the designer, but when I run it, the labels overlap each other and it looks like a mess. I only observed this problem after I moved from VS2003 to VS2005. Here is the code:

View 4 RepliesI have a control that inherits from CompositeControl, and I have a public property of type ITemplate that is instantiated. I can insert markup using it and it runs fine, but fields are NOT created in the designer for the template content.

Is there anything I can do to get the controls for the content to have fields automatically generated? Or do I have to use FindControl?

I have been using .NET 2.0 and VS 2005 for web application project and lately i am noticing that .designer.aspx.cs does not declare all the controls 'automatically' which r there on .aspx...i add them manually and some of them get lost,like the additional 'div' controls which i have on pages inheritated from the master,everytime i reload it.. ..i fully understand that i am not suppose to manually change anything in designer.aspx.cs but what do i do with this issue? Is .net 2.0 ,VS 2005 are too obsolate and i absolutely need to get on .net 4.0,2010..

Is there a way to allow the designer to use ftp to upload a single aspx page (foo.aspx and foo.aspx.cs) without requiring the use of the VS2008 Publish feature? We're a small shop and haven't bothered using source control as it wasn't much of an issue with the web site model. If the designer uses the Publish feature my binaries will be overwritten. I know that static pages are compiled at run time so I thought this would be possible but my tests result in errors. I've clicked around for some guidance but come up empty handed.

View 1 RepliesI'm working on building a an ASP.NET composite control that is a wrapper for a GridView object. I have been able to figure out how compose the control in order for the markup to appear correctly when added to an ASPX page. Now the issue I'm having is that when I drop an instance of the control on a form from the toolbox, I can't interact with the control using the functionality exposed by a GridView (e.g. columns editor, data source selector, etc.), and I don't see any design-time rendering of the child GridView control. What I would like to do is to basically forward the designer behavior of my composite control down to its child GridView control. I have experimented with implementing a custom designer class that inherits from GridViewDesigner that simply initializes itself using the GridView child of my composite control. However, this doesn't seem to work, as I encounter an "object reference not set to an instance of object" error at design time; I'm wondering if this is even the appropriate strategy to achieve what I'm looking for. how to enable GridView-like design time behavior in composite controls. I have scoured the Web looking for articles on how this is accomplished, but I've surprisingly found virtually no resources on the topic.
View 6 RepliesIt seems that VS always displays more than 20 rows of ListView in its designer. If a page has quite a few of ListViews, it is a bit hassle to move around. Is there any way to reduce the number of displayed rows?
View 7 RepliesWhen I format an accordion control using a skin file (as opposed to entering the formatting as attributes on each <asp:Accordion> tag), the control renders as expected when the website is run. However, in the VS2010 designer, the control won't display but instead shows the generic "Error Rendering Control" box which hasthe exception, "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute."

See Attachment 2 for what it looks like rendered in the Browser (IE & Firefox). What would cause this. I really can't even throw controls onto the UC looking like this. I have to go into the markup and do the drag and dropping.
