Visual Studio :: Activate The Toolbar With The Website Option?
Nov 5, 2010I know this is a simple question. How do I activate the toolbar with the Wesite option? For example, I want to select Website -> Add New Item.

Mar 29, 2010I am currently using VS 2008 Pro for an ASP.Net class. I got VS from school as part of MSDNAA program. It is version 9.0.21022.8 with .NET framework 3.5 SP1.
My problem is that when I start it up, it does not give me the option to Create or Open a Website. It only gives me the option to Create or Open a Project. So, when I start my homework or in-class assignments, I have to press Shift+Alt+N to Create a Website.
Where the problem comes in is after I start working on the website, I hit Save and it changes it to a Solution. This seemed to have caused a problem with BIND commands being lost in my last homework assignment. Is there something wrong with my install or a setting I can change? I'd rather not reinstall it unless I have to since it is such a pain to uninstall it in the first place.

Jul 28, 2010I just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.

Jan 15, 2010I have a very vexxing issue. After installing a third-party application and add-in for VSTS 2008, it has corrupted my menus/buttons by duplicating/cascading these throughout studio (i.e. Multiple sets of each menu - File, Edit, View, etc, each of which has multiple submenu entry sets). I have tried to use Add-In Manager to uninstall it and removing the application (which added the Add-in to VSTS). I tried Tools->Customize and resetting the MenuBar and ContextMenu options as well. I tried running each of the following (closing and then reopening VSTS after each) from the command prompt, which completed but did not fix things.
devenv /resetsettings
devenv /resetSkipPkgs
devenv /resetuserdata
devenv /setup
My question then, does anyone know a way to reset the menus/toolbars for VSTS 2008 to their defaults or correct this some other way? I know I can unistalll both products and resolve this but I *really* want to be able to use the third party app (Red Gate's SQL Prompt).
Visual Studio :: Format Document Icon To Add To Toolbar In 2010?
Aug 25, 2010For years now, I always added the "Format Document" icon to my HTML Editing toolbar. It always was difficult to find this in VS2008 and VS2005. It seem it has been completely eliminated in VS2010.Does anyone have any idea where is might be in the Customize toolbar myriad of commands?I realize it is available under the Edit drop down menu as well as keyboard command Ctrl K, Ctrl D. But is is just so much more helpful to put it on the toolbar.

Sep 15, 2010I initially installed Visual Studio 2008 Developer edition. I then installed Visual Studio 2008 Suite edition, with 2008 Developer edition still on the PC. When attempting to create a new Web Test, this option is not available to select when adding a new test in the solution.
The steps I followed:
1) Create new Project: Test Project
2) Add "New Test"
3) At this point I would expect "Web Test" to be an option, I only have Ordered Test, Unit Test, and Unit Test Wizard.
Do I need to uninstall Visual Studio 2008 and start with a clean Visual Studio 2008 Suite to get the "Web Test" option to show?
Is The Publish Option In Visual Studio Considered Pre-compilation For Web Applications
Mar 18, 2011I'm having trouble understanding when the site is considered "pre-compiled". As I understand what I've read, if I use the Publish or Build Deployment Package options from within Visual Studio then it is pre-compiling, but if I just use something like xcopy, then it is not pre-compiled.

Feb 7, 2010My client gave me this web solution, in it various projects, and the problematic project (for me) is the Web Site.
I've copied the code to test web server (2008) and installed VS 2008 so I could step through the code on the server due to some weirdness.
Anyhow, when I open the solution locally on my personal computer, it runs on Cassini [URL] because I'm not on a server OS. However, when I run the app on the web server, when I hit F5, it runs oh [URL].
When I'm running the code on the server, how do I point the web site to use Cassini?

May 19, 2010I've noticed that VS2008 removes the "none" option in the properties -> connection dropdownlist after you have modified a LinqToSql class where the "none" option was previously specified.So if i create a LinqToSql class, drag some db tables in, then set the connection to "none" in the properties window, save, then make a change to the db tables i've dragged into the class, i can't get it to go back to "none" again.I've noticed this behavior sporadically, not all the time. Havent isolated when it happens yet.The none option is required if you want to save your connection string in the web.config, and not in the designer.cs class or the .dbml file.

Jan 8, 2010I've been manually adding the following line every time I create a new user control / web form in one of my ASP.NET web forms projects: Option Strict On. I can't just set it in web.config because it's a legacy project that has user controls / web forms that would bomb out if we turned on option strict for the entire site, so the current solution is to apply it to all new user controls / web forms and slowly update the older pages. Is there some sort of Visual Studio setting / template I can change so that "Option Strict On" is applied automatically when Visual Studio creates the codebehind files?

Jan 6, 2010I'm really puzzled by this. Sometimes, in VS.NET 2008 Professional, when I right click anywhere on an ascx or aspx page in "Source View", I don't get the "View Code" option. Just now, I opened up an ascx user control file and in source view right clicked somewhere on the page and I did NOT get the view code option. Several minutes later, I started getting the view code option. What's causing this?
