I am trying to munipulate date in a label associated to a textbox inside a formview. The label is a textbox charater counter. I receive the error "NullReferenceException was unhandled by user code." The code works fine without the formview but now I need the formview to have a gridview associate data to the formview.ASP.NET Code

I would like to ask if it is possible to access data on a master FormView from a nested detail FormView.
I have a main form (master) with several tabs (detail) and would like to display a label with text from main form that is hidden by the tab at the moment of editting. My asp page looks like this.

I have added a table to my FormView Edit template for structure and a button that pops up a form for information.
When the button is clicked I want a check box in neighboring cell to become checked. But I am having problems in the VB code behind, establishing the name of the check box to change its state. Its something like this....
FormView1.ItemTemplate.(CheckBox1.Checked = True)

I keep getting a null reference when I try to access a listbox inside the EditItemTemplate of a formview. I check the mode before accessing the control (Formview1.CurrentMode) to make sure it is in edit mode and even set it manually to edit mode again! But formview1.findcontrol("blah") returns null. Formview1.EditItemTemplate does not have a FindControl method, not sure what else to try.

I have a UserControl inside the ItemTemplate of my FormView and I need to access it in order to get an event fired off. As the UserControl is inside the template, my event cannot see it!

I have a master page with a textbox that I want to use for a search, and display the results on the content page.
I've dragged in the datasource to the content page, and configured the formview to use that datasource... almost.
The issue I'm having is that on the last step of the configure datasource wizard where you select the parameters, I want to select the master page textbox control for the search parameter... but of course it's not available in the list. The list only allows me to choose controls from the content page.
How do I set this master page search box as the parameter for my datasource?

I am using a form view control which has two binded textbox. Now at this level it works fine and the textboxes show the values from database. But when i insert a panel inside the form view and move these two textboxes inside the panel, they dont show any values. What could be the reason for this?

I have extended a Entity class created by the designer (Linq to SQL). I have create a partial class called Promotion (App_Code/Promotion.cs) and I have added some new methods. But now, I want to access this methods from a FormView control and I dont know how to refer to the instance of the entity.
In the ForView, I can do:

And now Im accessing to one STATIC method of my completed Promotion class (App_Code/Promotion.cs)
But I dont know how to do to call a instance method

My firs though was to use the reserved word this, jejeje, but this refer to the web page instance..

I have a formview that use the formview iteminserted event. The information inserts into the formview fine, but all cells blank out after the insert. How can I make it so I can show all the values I have inserted show up in the formview after the inteminserted event?

i have the following scenario: one formview. when in editmode there is a child formview linked to the other by a column value. i need to take the value of one of the values of parent formview controls and set it to a textbox of child formview in insert mode. I wish to know which event should I use in codebehind to bind both controls? (that escenario will have paging and must keep the binding as if it was master detail)

I have a page with a FormView on it. The page is strictly for adding records to a Table. I have the FormView bound to an EntityDataSource and everything works greate except for one thing.
I want to initialize a date field in the FormView to today's date. So, in my page_load event I have:

TextBox setupdate = (TextBox)fvJob.FindControl("txtSetupDate");
setupdate.Text = DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString();

The first time this page loads, the txtSetupDate field is initialized.
Although, and subsequent loads of the page doesn't initialize the Text Box. I step through the code in the debugger and I can see that the code is executig, but something (the FormView bind?) is "clearing" the Text Box.

Is there a way to access the updated text property of a TextBox which is inside a GridView cell when a Wizard controls next or previous buttons are clicked? I have a requirement to not use the edit and/or update buttons on the GridView row. Therefore, I am trying to figure out a way of grabbing the updated values of each TextBox of the GridView on the PostBack. Furthermore, these controls (i.e. Wizard and GridView) are within an AJAX UserControl.

I have made 3 web controls which need to be accessible between eachother. First control is main control (controlA). Other 2 controls (controlB and controlC) are referenced in controlA. Now i need to access function from controlC and call it in controlB. I tried adding new reference, but it doesnt work the way I want it.
ControlA is main control and it is merely a table to hold other 2 controls in place. I can access both controls from controlA, but since I need to modify controlC due to drop down menu in controlB i can't force controlA to respond to event in controlB every time it occurs and affect controlC. Or can i? :)
So whenever the event (SelectedIndexChanged) of drop down menu occurs in controlB, I need to set up/change controlC. Problem is, I don't know how to call function from controlC. It may sound very simple to solve and i tried to make a new instance of controlC class in controlB my webpage just wouldn't load.

I am facing some problem with fromview....
I want enable or disable all controls once i click on hold button..and need to enable on unhold button...
I do know how to do using findcontrol by setting each control...but I do have 10 to 20 textboxes and dropdownslists in my formview...so do like that doesn't make any sense if do we have a way to disable/enable all at once....

I have method that I call which needs to find all the panels in the page but it fails. I have another method that was created by the VS has the traditional paraeters such the object sender, EventArgs e that the similar code works fine but the (simplyfied) code below. It is clear to me that these parameters contain information that makes one method work while the other not, but I don't know why.

I've always understood that it was best practice to add event handlers in code in the page load event thus:
Button1.Attributes.Add("onclick", "alert('Hello');");
rather than "onclientclick=somefunction()"
My question is, how do you add event handlers to formview controls where the control(s) may only be on the edit template and not on the insert and read only templates.
Simply putting the code in the page load would produce an error.
Where should the statement be placed in such scenarios?

I would like to hide several checkboxes if the FormView EmptyData Template is visible. How would I do that? My EmptyData Template has a message to the visitor that states "Sorry no records found", so when it is displayed I would like for my CheckBoxes to be hidden. Here is the code behind that I've started with and of course it doesn't work.

I need to programmatically fill DropDownList in FormView and can't find the proper event to do it. I keep getting "'GenreList' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items" or "Bind, Eval can only be used in databound control" depending on the event.
