Feb 9, 2011I have created a web application that docks other web applications into it.When an application is docked the app creates a link button in its "tool box" on the left hand side of the page, users can easily click on any link button to navigate to the desired docked app.
I have a web app that uses iframes to display other web applications inside it. In effect it is a docking application where users can easily access many web applications from within one main app, while staying within the main app. I am having challenges dynamically resizing the iframe based on the size of the application the user is accessing.I have searched the web and tried many ideas but have yet to discover the code that will do the trick.
First, for a docking web application is the iframe the best approach? I have see some posts on ajax but am uncertain how that will help.
Second, if an iframe is the way to do it does anyone have code that will completely liminate the need for iframe scroll bars?
Note:The applications docked in the main we app may be of any size and can change size as users interact with them.

Dec 27, 2010I am having a gridview with alternative color i have used AlternatingRowsDefaultCellStyle. however, if my grid is not fullyfilled, ie the grid view page size is 20 and i have only 10 records in that page then the alternate row color will not apply for blank rows. My question is, How can I fill the blank rows with alternate color as well.
Hope there is some solution without adding empty rows at the end of the datasoure which will create problems while sorting the grids.

May 14, 2010I'm trying to figure out some alternate ways of dealing with a smaller subsets of records from a larger set of records. This would be to increase performance and make it easier for the user to navigate, as opposed to trying to navigate a really large unwieldy record set. I know of a few ways a user can select a record from a record set. Selecting from a Grid View, drop down list, list box are some the first ones that come to mind. Another way I've seen, I think it was done with a repeater or User Control, is to list all of the letters in the alphabet as links and then only return the records that correspond to the letter that was selected.
It could also be done to allow the user to search by last name, first letter of the last name or some other similar method. I'm curious if there are any other ways of doing this. Does anyone know any other techniques that would create a better user experience when selecting a record or subset of records from a large record set?

Mar 9, 2010I want to alternate rowcolor in a GridView, using pure CSS, ie: I don't want to use asp.net themes; I'd rather not have to use jQuery, or define define AlternatingRowStyle-BackColor on each gridview (unless there's a reason I must). Here's my CSS (that isn't working):

Configuration :: .net App That Calls An Exe Under Alternate User Context?
Mar 28, 2011I'm banging my head against a wall here... can't get to the bottom of this issue. I have code that works fine when debugging in visual studio but breaks when deployed to both IIS 6 and IIS 7.5. Basically, it uses Process and ProcessStartInfo to start a program
(a command line tool, exe) and redirect the output to the web page. It uses the username and password properties of the ProcessStartInfo class to run the exe tool as a specific user. The tool requires admin privelages so I need to run it as such, but certianly don't want to run the IIS service or the asp.net app pool under an admin context.
No exception occurs when run on IIS, but it does not work, when trying to run on IIS 6 I get this error dialog: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on ok to terminate the application." It's obviously a security/config issue, but what specifically is the culprit? For IIS 6, an application pool was created for this, runs under 'network service', as usual, but again the process being started by the system.diagnostics.process class is run under a different account, which is an administrator account. For IIS 7.5, same thing,an app pool was created, so it runs under the 'iis appPoolNameOfPool' context.

Mar 2, 2010I'm building a web system and various clients will have alternate text for default instances throughout the site. One place is the main nav but there are others. The default may be "project" but they may want to call it "event".I'm heading down the road of calling all the terminology settings (there's a list of about 15) and creating an ArrayList that has the id and either the default or their replacement as the items in the ArrayList.I've also got a enum key list called TermKey that has the defaults and the corresponding ID number.
Throughout the code I'll reference TermKey.Project and then do one of these things that I see as options.
1-pull the text from the session (if the client has set it to "event" then the text "event" will be waiting for the call there)2-pull the text from the database every time I need it.3-pull the client's list each time a page loads.Some thoughts on the impact each way or if there is a best practice for

Jun 7, 2010I need to generate small images for certain parts of text. Those will have to fit into the text seamlessly. I know I can not make up for every browser font settings available, but how do I have to check for Linux, Mac and Windows users depending on the user agent? I want to use the right font (of the three "Verdana, Arial, Helvetiva") for the right user agent OS.
So:How do I check for the OS? What do I have to compare to in the user agentWhere can I get the other two fonts. Does the Windows-included Verdana look the same as the one used on Linux (or, is it free anyway? I don't know much about fonts)? Where do I get Helvetica? Is it Mac OS licensed?
Any code examples can be in either c# or VB.NET. I can read both.
