Web Forms :: Buttons Rendering In Odd Places On The Screen Now For Some Reason. If Change The Control From?
Jun 18, 2010
VB, .net 4.0, VS 2010. All of the sudden all of my button controls aren't rendering properly. They are in places on the form that make no sense. If I change the button control to any other control name such as an image button, they format corrrectly.
I just implented a login and deployed a system that works great on the local machine. After working on the deployed version for a few minutes, we get dumped back to the login screen for no apparant reason. Happens after just a few minutes, and from random places in the application. The login stuff is pretty much out of the box. This is from config

We are not doing anything at all in the codebehind regarding timeouts, etc.
I have a project where I'm rebuilding a legacy app and need to combine multiple similar web pages onto one ASP.Net web form. I thought I could easily do this with MultiView / View groupings. The problem I'm encountering is that each View control doesn't isolate controls of the same name. For example, I wanted to do this:
Is there anyway to define the screen position after a postback?
Specificaly i'm referring to the vertical scroll position. Some of my controls are set to AutoPostback = True. Depending on their selected value it then reveals a hidden ASP.Net panel and some more questions.
Problem is that with each post back the page refreshes at the top and i have to scroll back down to my question. I can use the .focus() control, that's fine, but it doesn't work as perfectly as i'd like. Is there any way of defining how many lines or pixels the screen is already scrolled to upon postback?
We have a problem on a new server where disabling a themed button loses its theme. This happens consistently on all buttons now.
We just switched to a new iis server 7.5 using asp.net framework 4.0
Before, the buttons through out the website have a nice style/theme. These are not set inside each button and there are no classes set specifically for buttons I dont think but I believe inherit the theme from I believe the web.config in either:
All the buttons did display a nice light blue gradient, and when disabled they go a few shades lighter blue
For some reason now in .net framework 4.0 all disabled buttons seem to lose their theme and become the default grey color. Enabling them again brings its theme back
I have an Asp.net web page that has 2 buttons with onclick events. The problem is, when a text field has the cursor and the enter key is hit the first button is triggered and not the seconded one (the one I want). I tried setting the tab index values,
i use edit and delete Property in grid view according to this link URL....here in gridview write DELETE EDIT//is there any way that i change text of DELETE and EDIT and write another word?
I found this article on how to manipulate the rendering sequence of asp.net controls.: [URL]I placed some placeholders on the page to encapsulate the controls i want to move around. The problem is, that RenderChildren does render the controls without the html i placed into the placeholder like this:
The controls are rendered without the tr and td around. How can I handle this? All I want is to change the order of the placeholders like in this example phOneToMove.
Editor-Control stops working when placed inside an ItemTemplate. See the example below. Editor1 is outside the ItemTemplate, Editor2 inside. When I remove the comments of Editor2, both Editors will not render correctly in the browser. Placing Width= and other properties did not result in a working editor-control.
I have a detail section in report. I am perfectly able to retrieve all the data from the Sharepoint List into datatable and bind it, to generate reports inside the details section. All the columns and related row data are getting displayed as reports in to the detail section. But, my issue is, I want to change the row data for a particular column before rendering on to the report.for instace, if column named Product has some values, I would like to display these values with different string name based on a switch condition. How do I achieve this?
This has got to be easy, but has got me stumped. How do I change an element on screen several times in one function?I want to change a label to read something like "starting..." at the beginning of my function, then go away and do some stuff and then change the label to "finished" at the end.
if a screen with some data, called the main screen. On that screen i want to place a button, if i press the button a new window appears with another form. So no problem right now.The user change some data on the new window, and presses save. After the user presses save, the data in the database is update, but also he need to refresh the data on the main screen. How can i do that ? so that if the user presses save, the window closes and the main screen gets updated?
I am developing website using xmlhttp request.I am using treeview control in a webpage.I am sending xmlhttp request to page for adding a treenode to treeview control.I added a node in the treeview control and i render the treeview control html using control.render method and send html to client through without postback. But i am not able to maintain the state of treeview control like selected node and expanded nodes. So I want to send state info to server through xmlhttp and how to update the state info in server, aslo i need to update the treeview control javascript objects like treeview_data which maintains the treeview state when i return back from server.
why the following code bombs with a NullReference exception.

I just want to output the html for the menu control to a string, if I remove the line that adds the new menu item or I change the control to a calander control instead of a menu control the it works fine.
I would like to change the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons texts without using the ModalDialog option thing. I suppose that using JavaScript will be the answer, but how?
I am trying to render the Button control @ serverside with PostBackUrl properties to set to another page ""~/page1.aspx". When I click on that button , it still postback to same page , does not postback to "page1.aspx" . I am trying to implement crosspage postback. I don't know button information and postbackurl info at design time. I Only know button and PostbackUrl info @ runtime.Code I am using
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { div1.InnerHtml = GetRenderControl(); } public string GetRenderControl() { Button buttonAdd = new Button();
I am having a problem with rendering a menu control inside a server control. I am getting an error in the RenderContents override method when I try to render the Menu Control. The error I am getting is an Object Reference error. The code is below...
I've encountered was appears to be a strange bug with the menu control, and alas, I am unable to find much useful information on it (which leads me to believe I have something installed or confingured incorrectly). Here the problem:
When declaring a menu control with a staticHoverStyle, for example:
Has no effect on the behavior of the control once it's rendered, neither in Firefox nor IE.In fact, using the source code at
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms366731.aspx with no modifications also results in the hoverstyle not working.
This problem seems to be "fixed" if you specify the css attribute declaratively, for example, StaticMenuItemStyle-BackColor="Yellow". Alternatively, if you specify RenderingMode="table" then the hoverstyle seems to work. It's only when you're using a cssclass with a list that things seem to mess up.
Finally, I notice that in the rendered html, the control embeds some styles between /* <![CDATA[ */ and /* ]]> */ comments that affects the final appearance of the menu control, sometimes overwriting a cssclass you specified (ex: the margin for dynamic menus can only be controlled with the HorizontalOffset property, and not by css). This is undesirable, but I don't see anything that seems to overwrite the behavior of hover elements. Actually, the .hoveritem class doesn't appear anywhere in the markup at all, but when you specify the StaticMenuItemStyle-BackColor property, then the value is rendered correctly in this block of styles.
I have a user control with a datagrid and few other information on title and summary. I would like to render this control to an Excel file !
The problem is , as soon as i try to open the rendered xls file, Excel reports an error, that the file extension is not valid, and that it is not from a trusted resource.
I've a dataentry screen where I've to give the users aprovision to enter date and for doing that I've used a DatePicker control. The problem is when I'm clicking on the next/prev button to change the month of the calender, the calender is not staying on the screen. So in order to select other month the user has to re click on the button. find below the stepwise description of the problem I'm facing.
1. I click on the calender icon and the calender popps up.
2. Now user tries to navigate months (i.e June to July or June to May) using Next/Prev button of the Calender Control.
3. When Navigating from current month to next/prev month I want the calender to be shown on the screen but actually on click of the Next/Prev button one postback is happening hence I'm loosing the calender from the screen as the calender is loaded again.
4. I'm getting the selected date using onselectedChange event handler.
5. The users will have to click the button again if he wants to navigate to another month.
Is there any way to keep the calender on the screen during the month got changed.
Two separate questions, but sufficiently intertwined that I'm going to try the two together....
Firstly - User Controls and Behaviours
I have a User Control which contains a few visual controls. I am attaching some behaviours by using GetScriptDescriptors and am passing some JavaScript to the browser using GetScriptReferences. That is all rock solid and working well. However, when developing, I did discover that I couldn't attach the ehaviours to the User Control itself - not surprising as rendering a User Control does not create a DOM element which represents the actual control. So, I have attached my behaviours to a "random" TextBox within the User Control.
So - first question, is there a better way to do that? For example, should I always be rendering a SPAN as an element to surround the control? Not sure what that would do to the robustness of the rendering. What is the right way to attach a behaviour to a User Control.
Secondly - Accessing those same Behaviours later
Assume I have placed a User Control on the page. That User Control exposes a Property (actually a Javascript Function of course) which does "something" to the control - for the sake of example we'll say that the function is set_Border(colour). I then have a behaviour on the same page (actually an Extender on a different control) which needs to call the function. I have a reference to the User Control in my script, so I have tried TheControlReference.set_Border('red') and find that my control doesn't support the set_Border method.
I guess this is probably because the behaviours are not attached to the User Control itself, but to a GUI element within it. Hence, I suspect that the answer to the second question lies within the answer to the first.
