Web Forms :: Duplicate Name Check In Text Changed?

I am using telerik control to implement my project. For the validation i use asp.net validation controls. Now i need to check duplicate name for name field in the database. I have 2 options1. in the save button click event or custom validator2. after enter the name i can display the error.Here in the second option i have doubt. How can i achieve this ? using textchanged? i am using radtextbox. when i try textchanged some issues in validation controls because of ajax.I am using asp.net 3.5 So i got one new validator named Dynamic Validator. What is the purpose of this. i dint got any good articles to study abouyt this? Can i use this validator here. I read the following forum[URL]but not got any example for dynamic validator. I thought to implement the scenario like some registration form (yahoo) did.When username enterd just diaply duplicate
I am facing a serious problem here.i developing a college project and in admission page there are a field student_code(in database ) which is manually auto generate but not unique.so I use like following.
I have a list box with data coming from the database. Above the list box I have a text box. If the user enters some text in the text box,then the data in the list box should be filtered as per the content entered in the textbox. In my page, i have about 7-8 such similar textboxes and listboxes. So I want to implement a common function which can be used for all the text boxes in the page. I tried to achieve this in textchanged event and javascript but sometimes not working. Is there any other simple way except javascript? Is it efficient to use java script in this scenario? Need your valuable inputs.
i have a textbox and a button.when the page loads, the textbox text read "hello"now when a user changes the text and then presses the button which causes a postback, how can i check if the user changed the value of the textbox or not?
I Have one gridview which i show in admin panel and need to allow edit and delete the row.now my problem is when click on edit i need to check that duplicate record not allow to enter and my password is in encrypted formate and i need to show decrypted form in gridview so if admin want to edit password then he can edit it And at a time of edit gridview can i give option of dropdow to selection instead of text box?
On inserting record, I want to check that for example if a user enters a telephone number for any record is already in the database then it should validate that the number already exists in table and you cannot enter a duplicate value.
Then if user will provide some other telephone number then he allows to insert record.
For insertion of record I used ObjectdataSource.
User will enter telephone number in a simple textbox.
I may want to inform that I am working in asp.net2.0 and also not allowed to use any third party control or ajaxtoolkit.
I want to check for duplicate records,if the record is already inserted then "record has already been inserted" should appear or else if its a new record then it should be inserted.. This function is inserting even if it exists and showing the error msg..

Requirment is: while enterening the value you should know that this values is already we have used in data base for that textbox field.Please give code in .aspx and .aspx.cs with database if any
and i am facing problem while inserting the record.
eg:
if the room is already booked from 1st march 2010 to 10th march 2010.and if anybody is booking the same room from 4th march to 9th march it should show error message stating that
this room is already booked from 1st march to 10th march.
I have webform which has insert button to insert/Add new record into my database table. It works fine but the problem is that I have a unique field name of the field is txtQuotes ,The user should not be able to insert a record that contains the same value for that field.How can I check for duplicate?
I'm not sure whether or not this is the correct forum...I have been asked to develop a webpage with a very simple table. 10 columns, 10 rows. Each cell will have a dropdownlist. Several people will have this page up at any given time and they will all make changes as needed. I am planning on using a SQL Server 2008 database to keep track of the entries.I need the page to verify the data it contains against the data in the database every 5 seconds or so. If they are different, either the page can refresh or (if possible) the dropdownlist can just change to the correct value.
my requirement is to update a duplicate record in datatable.in my website if anyone select a product more than one time then i have to check and update the quantity of that record.i use for loop for this but it is not working properly, it is running perfectly for one product but when i add another product it won't work.how can i do this?Here is my code part which is run on add button click

I've taken over work for the custom forums that a previous developer created at my job, and came across a minor bug. We don't allow animated GIFs as avatars in the forums. However, if someone were to take an animated GIF, rename it to imagename.jpeg, and then upload it, the forums will show the image as being animated.
It's a very odd bug as I didn't even think it played the animation if the extension wasn't .gif.
So my question is: Is there a way to check (in .NET 2.0) if an image is an animated gif, even if the extension isn't?
Note: The answer marked as the answer, answers the questions in the Title. However, my underlying problem, using type ahead dropdowns, is solved by moving to IE8.
I have a drop down list that when I CLICK a NEW selection I want to cause a postback ("this.form.submit()") But only if the click on the dropdown list just changed the selection.
Note that OnChange will NOT work because when the selection is changed by the keyboard I would not want to postback because it is a type ahead dropdown list.
I also suppose I could use OnChange and check if the change was caused by the mouse.
Maybe if we can come up with both solutions and i'll see which works better?

AutoPostback = true; will not work. (don't want it to post back when the selection is changed by the keyboard)
onBlur = doPostBack; I tried this, but the result is not optimal. The user has to click off the ddl after making a selection with the mouse.
Another way to state what I want to do, i think, is do a postback when both the OnChange and OnClick events fire at the same time.
i have a custom validator i have written a javascript method for this validator;this validator has been pot on a textbox that has auto post back is true .... now this validation fires when the post back happens...i dont want it to fire on the post back but only on button click
I have a textbox which is read only and there is a calender besides the textbox.When the user selects the date in the calender pop up, the text in the textbox is populated but it doesn't trigger the text change event.Can anyone tell me how to trigger an event when the text is changed on the textbox?
I have a bunch of controls in a Content Page ( A registration page, right) to gather information concerning a user. One of controls is for the UserName. I want to check that the UserName is unique so I place code in the TextChanged event of the TextBox control for the UserName. I have abreak point set in the event procedure and it never gets hit! This is my first attempt at using Master/Content pages. I have looked in the MSDN Library for many hours concerning this problem without any success. I need to know how to check whether the UserName is currently in an Access database.
I am calculating discount at text changed event when user enters the discount%. To edit when i load the data from table using dataset i do not get the correct data as it is in the database. For ex if quantity is saved as 5000.00 in table and when i try to fetch it.. I am getting it as 500000. Instead of 5000.00. Is it because of text changed event? How do i resolve this?
I'm new to ASP.net 3.5 and testing functionality before developing an asp.net web site. I created a page with a formview. I added several text boxes. I created an event on the FirstName_TextChanged event and added a stop in the sub. When I open the page in the browser and type in some text in the FirstName and press tab, nothing seems to fire.
1) Is this supposed to fire on the client side when text is changed? 2) If so, would the vb.net code entered work like Javascript code on the server? 3) If so again, is it possible to update another textbox based on the text entered into the FirstName on the Client Side (would do this in Javascript in Classic ASP)?
I think I'm totally confused. I've been searching web for article about how to do this.
I have a gridview that is being databound by an SQLdatasource and on RowDataBound i am doing a calculation and then setting
e.Row.cells(17).text = Result
However, when I go to sort it on the website it sorts it based off the previous values.Cell(17) from the datasource reads in all 1's. The numbers I change it to range from 0 to 15. So when I click sort nothing changes because it sees it as all 1's.How can i make the gridivew sort off the changed text values?
