Question: Is it possible to embed .skin files as a resource?
I am creating a library of user controls(grids, buttons, etc.) that are common among all of our web projects. I have included several common javascript files used by the controls by adding them as an embedded resource and registering them as a resource using RegisterClientScriptResource. Everything works great.
However, the last thing I would like to do is embed skin files in this project so that all the controls have the same look. I know I can control look solely with css, but I would like to control some of the other asp attributes as well(ie AllowSorting and AllowPaging attributes of a grid). Is it possible to embed skin files as a resource? Or will each individial project need a copy of the skin file? If anyone could provide insight on how I can go about embedding a skin file..

When I format an accordion control using a skin file (as opposed to entering the formatting as attributes on each <asp:Accordion> tag), the control renders as expected when the website is run. However, in the VS2010 designer, the control won't display but instead shows the generic "Error Rendering Control" box which hasthe exception, "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute."

We have a legacy app with multiple asp.net themes. Each theme have a .skin file. Each skin file is almost identical except for some things. The files share a lot of similarities. Is it possible to share a common .skin file across themes?

why FLVPlayback isn't working properly in MVC views? I think i narrowed it down to the "hard coded" skin url file not being correct. Where should I put the skin file( e.g. skinOverAllNoCaption.swf) so that flash can find it? Or are there any alternative approaches to somehow setting the skin file dynamically.

I wonder how to hard code the configuration below in a class. I have a case where I cannot use app.config (due to creation of dll). The code below is probably not enough.. hard coded in class
ContractDescription contract = new ContractDescription("Common.MyInterfaces.IConnector");
Binding binding = new NetTcpBinding();
binding.Name = "net.tcp.binding";
EndpointAddress endPointAddress = new EndpointAddress("net.tcp://localhost:9001/Connector");
ServiceEndpoint serviceEndpoint = new ServiceEndpoint(contract, binding, endPointAddress);

I am designing a web application for Leave Application of our faculties. There is a form in my website which represent the existing paper-back leave application form. Users(faculties) have to fill-up this web form and after validation an email will be send to the email address of our principal/hod. I hope that email address(s) will be provided to our group members. Now I want to know that what will be the required configuration of the web.config file? I found this blog ScottGu's Blog. Here the given configuration is:
[Code]....
But I think this is not acceptable for my project as the smtp from="test@foo.com", userName, password are unknown to me. So what should I do. Am I able to understand my requirement to you?

I'm trying to use the following command:
Dim xmlFilePath As String = _
System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("XmlFilePath")
to retrieve the following setting:
<applicationSettings>
<MySolution.WebProject.My.MySettings>
<setting name="XmlFilePath" serializeAs="String">
<value>C:ASP.NETFolderMessageLog</value>
</setting>
</MySolution.WebProject.My.MySettings>
</applicationSettings>
However, xmlFilePath shows up as Nothing after that line of code is run. What's the correct code to get a setting out of the web.config file in an ASP.NET application?
NOTE: Although you can add keys individually to the <appsettings> tag, I'm trying to figure out how to use it with the "Settings" tab in the project's properties.

My asp.net app has is using a web.config for common configuration. I also have a section that maps some data objects to connection strings, and that section is going to be couple thousand of lines. I want to move that section to another config file "dataMappings.config", so I don't bulk up web.config - is there a standard mechanism of accessing that config file?

I've been thinking about this for a couple days but still would like some feedback on the best way to go about this:
I have multiple sites (domains) that will be running the same code. However, there are a couple settings I have in the appsettings web.config file which are relative to each site. (ie: defaultSiteTitle, emailFromAddress, etc).
I would like to deploy this application in only one location (folder) and point the domains in IIS to that one directory.
To do this, I believe I cannot use the web.config file to hold these settings...
So, I decided to make a SiteSettings.xml file and load the site settings in there:
<sites>
<oSite domain="abc.com" defaultSiteTitle="This is Site ABC" emailFromAddress="info@abc.com" />
<oSite domain="xyz.com" defaultSiteTitle="This is Site XYZ" emailFromAddress="info@xyz.com" />
</sites>
So when I need to access the site settings I just call a function in my datalayer that reads this xml file and via the httpRequest I pass it it determines which site settings to use.
Okay, that works when I call it from a page where I have the httpRequest...
Howver, now when I'm into some business layer functions say sendEmail and I need to find the emailFromAddress from the SiteSettings.xml file, I don't have the httpRequest. I know I could probably hack something together and pass it someway...
But I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this...
I don't really want to store it into session.
Is it possible to tell IIS what web.config file to look at, if I had multiple web.config files? (I don't think this is possible).

I have few settings which I could place in a separate XML file and have them accessed in the Web app. Then I thought (thinking of one additional file to deploy), why not have them in the web.config itself. However, just because I need to have custom nodes, I can not have the settings under . So, I am thinking of creating a custom config handler following this. Would that be better than having a separate XML file? Is It going to be an overkill or performance wise? Is there a better way to go?

Does anybody know of an easy way to store Umbraco settings (Document Types, Media Types etc) on the file system in order to manage that data within source control?
Note: changes to settings made on the file system need to be easily integrated back into the CMS database.
Also, does anybody know of a way to package up settings from a development environment for rolling out to staging and live environments?

I am using VS2005 and I have a solution file (.SLN) which has 8 projects. I moved the solution file to a different path on a shared folder to have better organization of my projects and to allow access to the solution/projects from any computer on the network. After that, I edited the .SLN file so that the path of the projects in the solution file are correct (all on shared folders).
After that, I opened the .SLN and everything seemd to be working fine. However, I notcied that the "Start Options" of the website part of the solution file is missing the "Start Options", ie, the Start Options are reset to default values. I think also, but not sure, some other settings of the Solution/Projects have been reset.
Questions:
1. Where the Web Site "Start Options" are stored ?
2. How I can maintain the Start Options and similar settings if the .SLN file is moved or opened from different computers on the network ?
3. I am not using an team development tools, only plain (vanilla) VS 2005 Prof. Edition. Is it possible to have 2 or more developers work on the same solution/projects (shared on the network), if both developers will coordinate manually simultanous access to the porject files/resources/source code ?

We have many different clients, and each client can have multiple user accounts.Right now, we have user settings set up on the ASP project, and a WinForms application can see these settings, depending on which user logs into the winforms application. They are specific to the user. I want to make them specific to the client, so users can be in "groups" by their client, and all users in the group would see/update the same settings.

I am working solo on an Asp.net/C# project created by someone in the past. I created two new web forms, and then built the prjocect and did the deploy using a TFS team build project. For some strange reason, my Aspx file is not getting copied to the destination DEV server. It does get copied to a temp folder on that server, but in the end, the team build is failing and not copying over the new Aspx file.
So until I figure out how to fix the team build script, is their a way to just copy the Aspx file out to the desired server location? That as well as copying out a dll which is associated with the build file?

I have an asp.net application. I want to add a global.asax and global.asax.cs file to my project. In the IDE when I select to create a new global.asax file, the option to create a CS code behind file is greyed out. When the global.asax file is created, no code behind is created, instead code is placed in the global.asax file and the global.asax.cs file is never created? Why is the option for a C# code behind file greyed out?
