Web Forms :: RegularExpressionValidator To Prevent Numeric Entry Not Working
Jan 9, 2011
I have a 'City' TextBox on one of my web pages but people from many European countries sometimes prefix the city name with the postcode instead of putting it in my dedicated 'Postcode/ZIP' TextBox. I have therefore just added a new RegularExpressionValidator to this TextBox. Its purpose is to prevent the user from entering any numeric characters but allow everything else. After browsing for a suitable regex (I am not a regex expert), I found the following code that was claimed to do what I want.
ValidationExpression="^D$"
Unfortunately, the RegularExpressionValidator does not work as expected. Instead of just rejecting numeric characters it appears to reject everything! Where might I be going wrong?

i do have a form. inside specific asp:textboxes are "secured" by RequiredFieldValidator and RegularExpressionValidator running. in another div-element i do have buttons, which are expected to load different pages of my website. the problem is: when i click on either of these buttons it is not working as my validation-controls are fired prior to the onclick-button-events.

Is it possible to setup the CreateUserWizard to check for a duplicate entry in the aspnet_profile table (for a custom field) before the new user is created? For example, if I added a phone number field and wanted to make sure nobody else could create an account using that same phone number if a user already has an account with that phone number in the aspnet_Profile table's PropertyValuesString row?

When I use RequiredFieldValidator inside a DetailsView control field template, it automatically prevented DetailsView from inserting new records into the database, when triggered. JavaScript was disabled.
I'm a bit surprised and I'd like to know whether this is caused by the validator or is there a built-in feature in DetailsView that prevents database from being updated if some validators on the page are triggered?
If so, how is it possibly implemented (e.g. inside when eventhandler)?

I am trying to prevent users from submitting ascii codes in a textbox using a RegularExpressionValidator.
This works fine and I am able to display an error.
However when the user clicks on another button on the page I get the "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client" error. Is there a way to prevent this?

I want to prevent the entry of two characters together but I want the user to be able to enter one or the other as well as use the enter key. I would like to use a white list instead of black listing characters. The regular expression also needs to support a min and max length. I'm doing client side validation using the asp:regularexpression control. I do not want to have to do server side validation unless that's the only solution to this problem. Has anyone else run into this?
Here is the regex I'm currently using:
(?!.(&#))^[a-zA-Z0-9!@#$%^&_=+~''"";:,
.()?-]{1,1000}$
I'm using a asp.net textbox that is set to multiline so I have to allow for
and or what's the point of using a multiline textbox :)
I want to keep the user from entering &# together but allow them to enter text with & or # in it and allow all of the characters a-zA-Z0-9!@#$%^&*_=+~''"";:,
.()?-.
A valid text entry would be as follows:
I have a question about my order. The order number is 12345.
An invalid text entry would be as follows:
I am trying to keep the user from entering &# in the textbox, but I want to allow them to enter & or #.

My implementation is simple. I have a public static variable in a class called EmailHelper containing my regular expression as follows:
[Code]....
I then have the following web controls on my page:
[Code]....
The problem is that doesn't matter what regular expression I define as the value of my static public variable bound to the <asp:RegularExpressionValidator />, I always get an error (i.e. it aways says "invalid email")...

I have several text boxes in an ASP.NET Web Form. I want to ensure that users are not entering HTML into those text boxes. However, I'm not sure how to prevent HTML from being entered. Because of this, I decided that I want to only allow alphanumeric characters, spaces, exclamation point, sharp sign, dollar signs, percentage signs, carets, stars, and left and right parenthesis. I'm omitting the ampersand because I do not want them entering something like "<script&rt;..."

I am using forms authentication on ASP.NET. If I try to access a page by copying the query string and pasting it into the browser, it allows me access to the page. How can this be prevented? I want the user to always have to login.

I'm working on a asp.net application that contains image which is very processing heavy to generate, but at the same time can't be pre-generated since it requires a lot of parameters and data from SQL Server. I decide to use XNA and process the image on GPU and from a few minutes processing on CPU with GDI+ I mange to get the time down to 1 sec using shaders.Visual Web Developer was really nice to not give me any troubles when developing the site but once I tried to put it on IIS the nightmare started. After 2 days fighting with it I finally have XNA assembly loaded correctly but GraphicsAdapter.Adapters returns empty array. What prevents XNA from working in IIS?
I tried my site on the same machine with IIS 7.5 express and it works just fine, but the express server is for local use only. On the same machine the website also works directly from Visual Web Developer. The way I understand it IIS just don't have access to the graphics adapters which is really sad not being able to use GPU for parallel processing.

I've just encountered an interesting problem in a standard BoundField in a GridView. The field is for EmployeeCode, which is purely numeric, but stored in a character column in the database. The DataFormatString="{0:00000}" attribute on the BoundField doesn't work, as I assume that format is only for numeric values.
To work around this, I had to use a TemplateField, and bind the text value using the attribute Text='<%# PadNumericString(Eval("EmployeeCode").ToString(), 5) %>'. Is there no simpler way of doing this?

I have a ValidationExpression that works fine in IE8 and Firefox but client uses IE6 and it doesn't seem to work for them. The issue concerns special characters in a password text box, the clients wants to be able to INCLUDE special characters but IE6 doesn't seem to pick them.
Basically we want to be able to include any letter (upper and lower case) , any number and any special character. This is what I've got so far...
ValidationExpression="^(?=.*d)(?=.*[a-zA-Z]).{8,}$"
Like I said,
test123*
works ok on IE8 but IE6 doesn't seem to pick up special chars so thinks it's only 7 characters long..

Wondering if you could give me a nudge in the right direction. I'm working on an app where I need to validate a field for a correct URL. However, this is an optional field and may be left blankI was just wondering, how can I bypass the validator if the field is null.

Does the RegularExpressionValidator always need a RequiredFieldValidator?I see that when there is no input the RegularExpressionValidator is not working. Correct?
