how to go about retrieving data from another control by subscribing to an even and receiving back results at a later time. I'm trying to see if there is a way to have one web control (Main control), subscribe to an event in another web control (Search control), by maybe only sending in a method within the main web controls class. Once a query event occurs (via Button click) in the search web control, it sends back results to that original function in the Main Web Control (returning a datatable)
I think the goal is to have the search control be unaware of the main control and any specific methods or classes. Only have classes subscribe it it. Kind of like a top down process only. Is there any method that can work to accomplish this? I've looked into delegate methods and EventHandler (EventArgs) methods, but can't clearly see how this could apply.
I was going through an article on event bubbling in asp.net and came to know that although it is possible to subscribe to the click event of a user control's button from the containing page, "doing so would break some of the object oriented rules of encapsulation". A better idea is to publish an event in the user control to allow any interested parties to handle the event.
My question is that exactly how does a direct subscription to the button's click event from a containing page would break the object oriented rules of encapsulation?
i can use javascript setInterval() (in combination with jquery ajax) to 'poll' the controller action in order to determine if something 'new' should be renedered onto the page. However, I'm not a huge fan of polling, especially when client browsers can be left unattended and are uneccessarily polling for changes.
Multiply that by the number of potential client machines that could be browsing the app and you get a feel for the scale of the issue with this approach. Now, in truth, this is EXACTLY the approach that I use to refresh certain page fragments on some ('read' - MANY!!) of my existing sites.
However, I'd like to know what the options are for subscribing in 'reverse' to events and having the controller 'know' about the client browser and any events that it is subscribed to and the controller then 'push' out the update to the client on a 'needs must' basis. Is this something that happens outside of the normal desktop events scenario?
I want to write a page that shows the content of an rss feed. But I dont want to show only the current rss info but also previous. In other words I want to store every rss feed from the second I will finish building this page. The old and bad method is to refresh every 1 min or so, and compare the rss list to the db list. The rsses that doesnt showen on the db will be inserted. This method looks bad to me and I want some automatic method. What I mean is that when a new feed is posted it will send it to me (as a subscriber) and then it will inserted into the db.
How do I do it? And how do I do it behined the seance (in the global.asax or something?)?
I'm trying to use WCF Callback to implement publish/subscribe pattern. I would like to send the message from UserA to UserB or UserA to every clients at the moment. I got an example from here
In my app, I use asp.net as a client to connect wcf service instead and I found a problem when I subscrib to wcf service.
The wcf service does not hold any other clients object. So when I call GetAllClients(_guid), It will return only 1 client which is itself.
Here is the code in asp.net page (i put every control inside updatePanel)
[code]...
Is it possible to implement this publish/subscribe with asp.net and wcf callback? (I already tried on window app and it worked fine)If it is possible, how can I keep all clients that is connecting to WCF Service so I can use those GuId to call callback method.
IMPORTANT Can any body solve this one ?How to create page's Init, Load, PreRender etc. event handlers in VS 2008? When we double click on the page, it will create Page_Load event. How to create othere events of page? I am using c# in ASP.NET application. There is no Event tab in image.
I understand I need to load my dynmaic control on every postback and preferrably in Page_Init(). But my dyanmic controls are loaded from a dropdownlist selectedindexchanged event handler. Now after any postback, my dynamic controls are gone. How would I force it to load on every postback ?
I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.
Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.
I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.
In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:
[Code]....
Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.
I have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.
My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?
I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.
I am facing one strange problem,I have a gridview in which the last two columns have checkboxes and on those checkboxes click event I am doing some database operations.I also have one checkbox that is outside the gridview which actually shows or hides some of the gidview columns. This was all working well but now I have shifted that grid to a user control because I have to use it in two pages. The problem now is,When the page first loads and I click the check box or any control in the page that is outside the grid then it works perfectly. But once I click any of the check box within grid view column then its behavior chages, now even if I click the checkbox that is outside the grid then also the checkbox_CheckedChanged event of the checkbox that is whithin gridview is fired. That checkbox event then behaves something like a page_load event that is called for every page load and for every event with in the page after it is called once.
well i have already created the rows and cells dynamically using asp.net table control ...but how to add an onclick event on that ...so that i could retrieve the corresponding cell when a particular row is clicked ...if it was a html control ,i could have used javascript but in this particular case m unable to find any solution..
I have a label control. I added table dynamically into the label. and dynamically buttons into table cells. On button click of each cell raises a popup where I can add a item. Now I have a problem, My table is not refreshing when I added the items and closed the popup. But they are adding on the next event raise.
I have a user control that's in it a text boxI want add the even TextChanged to that text box too reach from pagesin my user control I have 1 text box and I want reach the its "TextChanged"event to write some cod ein it in my aspx pagelike a normal textox.
lets say I have a control with a button in it. I want to use my control on a page but then know when the button in the control has been clicked. I assume I need to fire some sort of event when the user clicks the button and then in my parent page I can hook into onMyCustomEvent or something..
I've found posts about making a click event with jQuery for a button, however I need a little more then that. When any postback occurs on a page, I need to fire off a jQuery click event. Based on a condition, I want to continue processing (including running the server-side event code after the jQuery code), or, perform a redirect. I'm not quite sure how to go about this.
I have a webdayview control (Infragistics proprietary ASP.net control) on my page. On the aspx source I've inserted some javascript (webdayview_click - clientside click event) that calls a webmethod in the codebehind. This seems to work fine, but when I insert this webdayview control into a user control and move the corresponding javascript into the aspx of the user control, it doesn't work. I can't even insert a breakpoint into the javascript function to debug it. Is there a way to make it work? I want to enable the click event of the webdayview control so that when I click on it, the javascript function calls the webmethod. Here's my code (remember it is inside a user control):
[code]...
I posted this question on the Infragistics forum but didn't get any replies. Hopefully I'll get some here. :)
i need when i select a image in fileupload control then path should store in a textbox. actually in gridview i have a image control ,one fileupload control and a textbox control. so when user trying to edit one image and click Edit button from gridview and chose a image from fileupload control then path should be store in relative textbox control.below is my design.
I am loading in a user control on page load and events are never firing. The user control loads fine with the correct information. it contains two dropdowns and an
calendar control. The dropdown selection changed event is never fired. I am not sure if there is something wrong while control is being rendered.
I have one dropdownlist control which populates values to other controls. Means upon selecting item in dropdownlist, related data is populated in other controls. I have also assigned dropdownlist's autopostback to TRUE. Everything is working good as far as dropdown has more than one item.
Whenever there is only one item, selectedindexchanged event is not fired (obviously.....) and eventually the data is not populated to other controls.
How could I get rid of this scenario? I mean which event should I use to avoid this?
At this time, I have just added the first item as something like "---Select Item---" , so when end-user has to select different item and thus the selecteditemindexchanged is fired. no biggie... but just wondering if proper solution is available....
When I click a server side control, such as linkbutton, I have to do something on Page_Init or Page_Load. How do I find the right LinkButton if I have many LinkButtons in this page. You know that Page_Init or Page_Load is execute before LinkButton_Click.
