is it possible to convert whole visual studio 2008 web site project to visual studio 2010 web site project
my current project references
i have a very annoying iis problem
iis server stops working until app pool is recycled
i am hoping that new visual studio (net framework 4.0) may solve this very annoying unsolveable problem
My website uses a single project solution. Each web page file consists of C# code along with the markup. I now have to separate the code from each page into code-behind files that must be combined with many different versions of the markup. I assume this means that I will need a solution with a common project of code-behind files that is merged with a project of each version of the markup files in order to create different websites. I need to know how to organize the solution for debugging and building each website and where to place each file.

View 6 Repliesjust a quick question, are there a lot of developers using the express edition to make web sites, or is it limited to what you can do, and I would be better getting the full edition visual studio 2010. I have been using dreamweaver, but I wanted to try my hand at asp.net, thx for any info you can offer.
View 1 RepliesI have a Visual Studio 2003 web service project that I have to upgrade to Visual Studio 2008. After I have run the conversion wizard, I get this message: You have completed the first step in converting your Visual Studio .NET 2003 web project. To complete the conversion, please select your projectin the Solution Explorer and choose the 'Convert to Web Application'context menu item.I got this message with another project, which was originally a "web site", rather than an ASP.NET "web application". It made sense to in that case (sort of). Why, however, would I not just want to have this project remain a web service project?Additionally, when I follow the instructions and select "Convert to Web Application" from the context menu, I don't get any feedback that anything has changed. Should it have?
View 1 Repliesim developing an asp.net website application but suddenly all changes i make to the page in the visual studio designer are not being saved for some reason. Every thing i do in the code behind file is saved with out any problem, also if i edit the .aspx file but in sourceview, the changes are saved, but if i drag a control from the toolbox onto the page designer and set some properties and then save, nothing will have been saved when i close and re-open the page, all changes are lost.

View 2 RepliesI have downloaded a project from the internet called the SMS Source example. I wanted to open this project in VS2010, so a conversion wizard has popped up prompting for the conversion. But it has errors in converting.
Error msg:
Conversion Report - SMSSend.csproj:
Error converting project file. MSB0001: Internal MSBuild Error: Missing resource 'MissingAttribute'
Taken from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd410597(VS.100).aspx ...
If you are using the Standard or Express editions of Visual Studio, the Create Unit Test Project dialog box is not displayed. Instead, the new MVC application project is generated without a test project.
I recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:
<div class='<asp:Literal ID="CssClassLiteral" runat="server"></asp:Literal>'>
It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?
I don't see Empty Project option in Visual Studion 2008 under NEW > Project?

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.
I would like to understand if it is possible to convert a windows application project written in vb.net into an ASP.net website. I'm editing the code of a project, and I want to integrate the code into my WEBSITE written in vb.net I have a solution which when I open, it contains a class library and a windows application. There are only 3 files viewable under each of two folders. The folder Charlotte with Myproject, Assemblyinfo.vb and Charlotte.vb and the folder TestCharlotte with Myproject, AssemblyInfo.vb and frmTest.vb. How do I go about taking this thing and integrating the pages into my website application? WHen I look in the folders on my hard drive, I can see other things including a bin folder and an object folder.

View 2 RepliesI need to migrate a ASP.NET application from 1.1 to 3.5. I have gone through the answers on this forum already, but still have some questions
should I convert the application from 1.1 to 3.5 directly? OR convert it to 2.0 first and then to 3.5 and the reasons for doing so.Is there any article that walks through the whole conversion process from 1.1 to 3.5 with solutions for any typical issues encountered during the conversion process? Is it possible to convert a ASP.NET 1.1 project to ASP.NET 2.0 using VS2008 OR do I need to use VS2005 IDE for doing so?

.How can I remove error I am getting in Productdetails.cs page
probably I should have posted this in the novice section, lol. Anyway, I'm using VSS 2005 on VS 2008. I started using the tool when the project was at a good point already, so I had to load it in VSS db. The problem is that, when I check out to make a local copy, it doesn't load the files from the Images folder and I wonder if it saves the files I put in the working copy folder. So i thought of manually copying them from/to the Master copy. Problem is that I can't find it. It's not in the VSS Database folder, or at least it's not present in a form I could recognize. So, where it is?
This problem started bothering me when I tried to assign an icon to a link. If I put the url to my working copy Images folder, it can't see any file. So I guessed it must be looking into the Master version of the folder, right? Anyway, I'm not so sure about that, cause when I assigned a background image in the StyleSheet, saving it in the working copy Images, it worked. So, as I'm already speaking of it, can anybody tell me if there's anything wrong with this icon assignement? Ty!
