Basically what i am trying to do is display a list of categories. And if the admin is logged in
i want to show some buttons next to each category. For example a button to delete it. The problem is that i dont know how to pass a parameter to the function that does the action.Like i specify that on button click the function 'DeleteCat' must be called but if i cant pass the ID of the category to be deleted this wont work.I know this can be done with commands and a repeater, but its not an option, i cant use a repeater.So apparanly this is what i am aiming for:
Can somebody show me a better approach of looping through a Try -Catch statement. I have something like this:

I need to try to connect 5 times before logging an error. My first thought was to nest Try - Catch 5 levels but I didn't like that idea. I'm sure there is better solution to it.
I have 2 separate code-block asp.Net expressions in an aspx markup, with an html content between (span element in the example below). In the first code-block, there is "i" as an increment variable for the for loop.Then the code-block is cut with an html content.And another code-block expression is opened but as I see I can reach the "i" variable which was declared in the previous code-block.
So, how asp.net handles -compiles- the pieces of code-block experrions declared in the mark up? Does it check the semi-colons and generates some anonymous methods which will end up with many calls to Response.Write in the last place? <p> <%for (int i = 0; i < 30; i++) {

In .NET is it possible to get the HttpContext of the current page from within an external class?
So, for example in my page test1.aspx codebehind I've got:
Dim blah As New FeedWriter() blah.Run()
But inside FeedWriter.vb, can I get the HttpContext of test1.aspx? Or would I have to pass it in to Run()? (I'm unwilling to do the latter because FeedWriter implements an interface which will need to be re-written if it's to take arguments)
I'm reading an invoice dataset and building a html table with checkboxes and textboxes in it, and I put that code in a postback = false block, then i got a button and a literal. The button click will loop through the html table checkboxes to calculate a total and assign it to the literal and display it. I got everything working except one thing, every time i click the button, the html table refreshes and lost all the value in textboxes....even though I put the html building block in the postback = false block,it seems like it still won't preserve the values in the textboxes once there's a button click...Anybody knows a solution to that? I want the textboxes keep what values are there.

I have an extension method which I can use from the .cs codebehind of an aspx page, but if I try to do it in a code block in the aspx, it can't find the extension method. Is there something I need to add to the page?
I have the need to fire off a modal pop-up inline. I have a modal panel defined, and works when I click a test button on the page. Unfortunately I need it to work like this:
1.) A user clicks a 'Save' button
2.) In the code block for that button's Click event, there is a check for a certain constraint.
3.) If that constraint exists, I need to show the modal pop up and determine if the following code in the Click event is executed based off of the return of that modal pop up.
Easily accomplished using a Forms message box. But this is an ASP.net app. What I've tried so far is creating a button that uses a style with "display: none" and programmatically firing off that hidden button's click event. Unfortunately the code does execute but no modal pop up is displayed and the code continues to execute.

What I need to do is update a label during a loop (simplified from my implimentation). If I can refresh the whole page or an update panel that would work too. I want to give the user more info than just "Please Wait...". So the extreamly simplified version of what I'm trying to do is:
Because ASP runs all of it's code behind events before sending the HTML to the user it will not update the label text until after the entire loop has run. I've tried using and update panel and using the UpdatePanel1.Update(); command. I've turned off out buffering Response.Buffer=false; and Response.BufferOutput=false;. I've been searching forums for the past 2 days trying for find a solution. Is this even possilble with ASP or are we at the mercy of ASP only giving HTML to the user when after it's done with it's server side events?
I tried to keep all the data in the gridview when paging, but when I try to save it, which appears in my database only when it is active pages .. ex: in the first and second page I have data in gridview .. when I save, the stored in the database only the first or second page of course .. so I like to keep all my data in gridview when paging..

I am building this simple quiz application using asp.net/vb.net and sql server for the database. Now what I want to happen is that when I click on submit button, it will count all the correct answers of the user based on the radio button he clicks.
I have two radio buttons and the correct answer for those two radio buttons is A, now if they click both A for those 2 radio buttons, they will get a score of two else if wrong, it won't count the incorrect answer.
