My problem is if i put that label (lblMsge) inside I am unable to assign the text from code behind. if i put that label outside the tr its working fine but the display is not proper. Aug 9, 2010I have several labels in my application, and I need to manipulate every single one of them. So, I thought the easiest way would be to simply call the manipulating C# method from the aspx page when needed, but oh, I was wrong. I have spent a couple of hours now trying to figure out how to do this, but I have not come to a solution ..
Aspx page:

Code behind (C#):

I do not wish to assign each label to value directly from code behind (normally I would do it like this but this time there are so many labels that need a manipulated value that it simply would be too hard updating the application in the future).
When using the code behind, the application simply prints "<%= ManipulateLabel("Information") %>" on the page, which is not what I want :( Also, if I use:
<span><%= ManipulateLabel("Information") %></span>
, it suddenly works. But, I need to use the asp.net web controls, not normal HTML tags.

A new will be created when user hits enter key in the last textbox i.e., communicationaddress.For validations I have used java script. Now my requirement is when user types the address line the content of the textbox should be copied to communication address.

so in theabove four textboxes when the user hits the keys the matter appending to the communication address with ',' seperated. I acheived this through key press event in java script..................

Dec 5, 2010I have a button in a details view that I want to change the properties of at run time. When the user clicks the edit button the details view goes into edit mode. I also want the edit button to turn into an update(or save) button so the use can click it to persist the changes done in edit mode. I've had to create a new instance of the button which I can do. I've done that with the cast below, I assume this is a good way to do this. I'm now having difficulty assigning the properties. I tried this but get a "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object" error. I thought I was working with an instance of the object in the code below, but the compiler doesn't agree. How do I set the text, and other properties for my button instance?

Apr 22, 2010I have a ASP.Net page that has a gridview control. This gridView control has a checkbox controls. I would like to assign a boolean value from a database field to the Checked property- Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>'.
When page loads,I get error - Specified cast is invalid!

Note: If a constant value is passed at design time it works fine. But i want to assign the value at runtime using Bind.
Environment details: VS 2008, ASP.NET 2.0 and .Net Framework 3.0 & C# language.
I tried returning values like 0s and 1s, Ys and Ns and True and False from a database field. But i still get the above mentioned error.
I tried retreving the value in OnRowDataBound event using Eval, since Bind is not available in code behind. But it would make the field readonly and i cannot edit and update the Results field.
Even though there is a value returned by the query why does the Checkbox does not assign the value using <%# Bind("Results") %> to Checked property instead throws error - Specified cast is invalid.
how i can edit and update Checkbox.
where did the Bind method of ASP.Net 1.x is moved? How can i use Bind in code behind of ASP.Net 2.0?When i type DataBinder the intellisense shows Eval and other stuff but i don't see Bind that would solve the problem of two- way binding.

As you can see in the comments, I want to retain only the name as the return value, however I want to be able to take out the value of the concat variable to asign it to a label, but when i try the compiler refuses, can it be done? Is there a work around?

Apr 5, 2016I have an entry page that contains a datalist. I also have an ascx user control page that when it runs on page load, renders an html table template which contains category information from an SQL self referencing table. When the SQL query run on page load, it bind the results to a datalist called dlCategory, and repeats for all rows that have no value in a field in this SQL table called ParentCategoryCode. The SQL table is called ServiceRequestCategories and basically consists of CategoryCode, CategoryTitle, and CategoryDescription, and may or may not have a ParentCategoryCode associated with it.
Records without a ParentCategoryCode are top level categories, and anything that has a ParentCategoryCode are second or third level categories. The way I have the data set up, it ends up being 4 rows that are returned and rendered as 4 html tables. Each one of these is tied to the user control, and each user control runs another datalist, and shows all CategoryTitle values for each Category that has a ParentCategoryCode (second level categories). This works when you click on a LinkButton for any CategoryTitle. This all works fine.
My question is, how can I use an SQL select query to plug the value of the CategoryTitle into a label called lblCategoryBreadCrumb on my main entry page? Here is my code, but it does not seem to work.
