C# - Context Is Closed When EF Tries To Access Null Property?

Jan 26, 2011

I have an object defined by my entity framework model that has navigation properties, but whenever the navigation property is null, entity framework seems to try to pull it down again from the database. This is fine for now and I can work on this problem later, but when it tries to get the navigation property from the database, I get the error from the model:The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection.

Well this isn't too good that it's blowing chunks like this. Is there anything I can do to ensure that this is only attempted when the context is still open?

C# - Webpart Context.session Is Null

Mar 25, 2010

I've been using the session array to store a state variable for my webpart... so I have a property like this:

public INode RootNode
{
get
{
return this.Context.Session["RootNode"] as INode;
}
set
{
this.Context.Session["RootNode"] = value as object;
}
}

This usually works fine. I've discovered that sometimes, the context.session variable will be null.

I'd like to know what are the conditions that cause the session to be null in the first place, and whats the best way to persist my object when this happens? Can I just assign a new HttpSessionState object to the context, or does that screw things up?

Edit: Ok, so its not just the session that is null... the whole context is screwed up. When the webpart enters the init, the context is fine... but when it reaches the dropbox selectedindexchange postback event (the dropbox contains node id's to use to set the rootnode variable), the context contains mostly null properties.

also, it only seems to happen when certain id's are selected. This looks more like some kind of weird bug on my end than a problem with my understanding of the session.

AJAX :: AsyncFileUpload - Cannot Access Closed File?

May 12, 2010

I am using an AsyncFileUpload control inside a FormView. I only want the file to saved during the FormView's ItemInserting event. In trying to find a way to do this, the only thing I could come up with was to store the AsyncFileUpload control or the PostedFile in a Session variable during the OnUploadedComplete() event and then invoke the SaveAs method in the ItemInserting event. Problem is the SaveAs method is throwing an exception saying "Cannot Access A Closed File". If I invoke SaveAs in the OnUploadedComplete() event, it saves successfully, but I need it to only save when the user submits the form. this error or perhaps a better way to save the file during ItemInserting()?

This works fine in classic mode but when I flip IIS to use the Integrated Pipeline "Context.User" comes back as null, but only intermittently.I have < authentication mode="Windows"> and only Windows Auth enabled in the Virtual Directory.

Access :: Insert Records Into Access (not Inserting Null Values)?

Nov 12, 2010

I have a SQL database. I am getting a datatable from SQL. In SQL Query the table is having null values in the output. But when it is coming to the front end, the null values are replaced by empty values.

So in the front end in the datatable i am having empty values in some cells. I am trying to insert this datatable into access. For this i am using following code...

OleAdpData.InsertCommand.Connection = OleConn; // OleConn is the OleDbConnection
OleAdpData.InsertCommand.Connection.Open();
OleAdpData.Update(dtData); // dtData is the datatable
OleAdpData.InsertCommand.Connection.Close();

It is inserting the datatable to access database. But it is inserting the empty spaces as present in the datatable. I want to insert NULL into the cells in access datatable where the cells are empty. Where should i add my logic for this.

Context Of An Asp.net Website - Way To Check Whether User Has Access To A Particular Record

May 26, 2010

I have a webpage that you pass in an id parameter (via a querystring), which it then uses to fetch data from a database. Typically, a user would navigate to this page from another page that lists only those records that the user has access to. However, if they go directly to the page by typing in the URL in the Address Bar, they can effectively view any record they like. to type something like http://localhost/TestSite/ClientAdmin/ManageLocation.aspx?LocationID=5 into their Address Bar, they can access the database record with the LocationID equal to five - even though they shouldn't have access to it

Get Total Row Count And Why Is The GridView's DataSource Property Null In The DataBound Event Handler

Jul 22, 2010

I wanted to get the total row count in a GridView's databound event handler, so I tried the following:

protected void grid_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
GridView grid = (GridView)sender;
DataSet data = grid.DataSource as DataSet;
if (data == null)
return;
int totalRows = data.Tables[0].Rows.Count;
}

The problem is that the grid.DataSource property is null. The DataSourceID property is not null, so does that mean that I can't access the DataSource object in the DataBound event handler unless I assign the DataSource property directly?

Edit1: Here is the code in my GridHelper class for adding rowcount to the BottomPagerRow. I would like to get rid of the requirement to pass in the ObjectDataSource, but can't because I need to use the Selected event to get total row count. Hence the reason for the question. I also think this might be better in a custom control where I can access ViewState, and/or create child controls during the Init event (I still have a problem to resolve with the way the pager renders with an extra cell), but then I'd still have the problem of how to get to the total row count when the DataSource itself doesn't appear to be available in any GridView events.

Edit 2: Not really relevant to the specific problem, but I resolved the problem I was having with the pager rendering so i've updated the code posted. I found the trick here: [URL]

Forms Data Controls :: Property Of Custom Control In Repeater Is Null On Postback?

Jan 12, 2011

A common problem in repeater controls where you want to display data for update (like a list of user phone numbers that can be updated and submitted back to the database) is where to store the database unique row identifier. So, I created a custom Textbox control that I've added a Data property to. I populate this data property with the unique row id. The problem is that when I post back the list and go through the repeater items the control's data property is null. The custom control looks like this:

[Code]....

The tag in the repeater looks like this:

[Code]....

I have a custom checkbox with the same data property and it works fine. I actually put in the same repeater with the textbox control and the checkbox control have the row id on postback but the textbox did not. Is there some limitation on the textbox control that might be causing this.
