I know the back button always presents a problem, but this one doesn't make any sense.
I have a simple details view and a button on a page. The button sends the user to the homepage. I am trying to prevent the user from being able to use the detailsview if they click Back in their browser.

When the button is clicked...oddly the user is sent to the homepage then when they click the browser back button they are sent to previous page with the detailsview still visiible.
I know I am missing something, can someone fill me in?
I have a detailsView whose date values in a cell are currently being displayed in longDateFormat, i want to convert all date values in this DetailsView to short date.
For example, instead of 6/1/2010 12:00:00 AM, i want to display just 6/1/2010

What to do to show DetailsView even when there is no data in underlying datasource?The problem is that when DetailsView is not visible, the command buttons are also not visible. So I can not insert a new record to a database. I would like to have always visible DetailsView with its DefaultMode set to ReadOnly.If it is not possible I would like to ask for an workaround for this problem.
One workaround which I have on my mind is to check if datasource have any records. If no then programmaticaly change DefaultMode to Insert. However this causes another problem - how to count the number of records in DataSource.All my problems are related to the ASP 3.5
I have a master/detail page using a gridview as the master, and a detailsview as the details. The gridview is set to select a record, and the detailsview picks up the ID and you can either edit that record, or add a new one.The detailsview is set up with various template fields, and if everything on the page is visible, it works OK.However, I wanted to hide the Gridview when the user in working with the detailsview. But if I do that, the detailsview doesn't update the record.

I have built a set of custom business objects that I have successfully bound to the GridView and DetailsView controls using the ObjectDataSource. I have been able to provide insert/update/delete functionality and all is working as expected. However, I am trying to wrap this functionality into a custom user control that allows the consumer to specify a table name and a list of column names and have it build this functionality on the fly without regard to the table structure (ie...available columns). I have been able to successfully get the GridView and DetailView to build the columns from code behind and I had all the CRUD working while using 2 panels to show/hide the GridView and DetailsView controls, but I wanted to add some AJAX ability to the control using Matt Berseth's modal popup example to make the interface slicker. The problem I am having is that the EditItemTemplate for the DetailsView control has to be specified in the code behind (because of the flexibile nature of the columns) and I can't figure out how to bind the data from code (rather than having the columns defined and bound in the markup). For all intensive purposes, I am trying to find the code behind counterpart to the following code snippet that binds the data to the textbox:
I have a problem that in DetailsView Edit Mode, if I go to edit fields, and set a fields visible property to false, when I update the record through the built in update options it sends a null value. If I change the field back to visible, it passes the data just fine.
Consequently, I tried just setting the field to Read Only = True, and got the same result even though the current values do show up in the edit mode, just read only.Is there anyway to hide the field but still allow it to pass the data it currently has "BACK" into the record.
I am basically trying to check the contents of a field in a data base (Course) to determine if a button (btnMisfills) shoulf be displayed for a specific user. I am sure ther are probably better way of doing this, and any suggestions would be appreciated. However I am using the few tools I know how. Everything works as expected as long as the DetailsView is visible, but I have no need to display the detailsView. When I change the detailsView to visible = false, my logic does not work. Apparently visible = false means the detailsview is not created. If this is true, how else can I check for the contents of the course field?s there a way to check a field in the sqldatasource?
I have five menu items that i have created as a user control and placed on the master page. Now i want one of the menu items to be visible only for particular user role and not visible for others. Here is what I did. Its not working though.

I have a web page that I have a media control player on along with other controls in a table.It's a training video, so the controls are not visible.So the user can advance to the next web page,I thought I would have a button control inside an update panel with a time control so that the user had to watch the video and then the button control would appear after the video completed.I'm setting the button update panel to NOT visible and then turning it one when the time control elapses the same amount of time that the video runs.My problem is that when I set the visible property of the update panel to NOT visible it also makes the media player's panel NOT visible too.They are in two different panels.The medial player in a standard panel and the timer control connected witha separate panel that contains the button for the user to proceed. When I set the visible property to "true" the media player runs but the update panel with the button is visible also.

I am trying to arrange the information from a SQL record into a 3 column by 3 row table to fit the form presentation that I want. I have placed on the page 3X3 table and then tried to place a detailsview in the first cell for the first picture called P1dv.

The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.

I have a masterpage (which we will call 'default'). This contains a second page (web user control) -'second'. And finally a third 'print' page. The 'print' page is also a web user control, however, it merely has a placeholder that contains the 'second' page.Is there a way I can add a control to the 'second' page - such as a literal, and only have it visible on the 'print' page?
I have the following markup. The errorPanel was first only used to show server side exception messages, and works fine like that. Now I'd like to incorporate my validation summary into that same errorPanel.

My problem now is that the required validation happens client side, and I want to keep that, so I have no server side opportunity to make errorPanel visible, in order to make the validation summary visible.
I see I have two options: Do validation server side, and use my code there to make the panel visible, or hook into the client side code somehow and catch an event there when the summary should be made visible, and then also make the errorPanel visible. How could I go about the latter?
I have a GridView which contains a linkbutton in its templatefield. What I want to know is, when I click on the linkbutton, how can I get the text of the linkbutton into a string called 'name'?
