C# - Passing More Than One Argument In Button In Gridview?

Apr 5, 2010

I have a TemplateField column in a gridview with a button inside of it.There is NO key value (surely that was not designed by me) , but in the other hand there aren't redundancies when comparing each single column, because they are events, and there is "starting date" and "ending date" of something that could not happen twice at the same time.I've already figured selecting with these values and all, but I just want the button to pass about five arguments to a given function.I've tested:

<asp:Button CommandArgument='<%# Eval("day")%>' ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button" />

And it works properly, the day of the clicked row is passed, and could be retrieved through:

e.CommandArgument.ToString();

in the GridView_RowCommand handler. How do I pass more than one argument? I've thought about concatenating with a separating character (wouldn't be that bad) but besides not knowing how to do it yet (didn't want to invest in a poor solution) I want a smarter one.

Gridview - Passing Multiple Argument Through CommandArgument Of Button?

Mar 5, 2010

I have a gridview with multiple rows, each has a Update button and I need to pass 2 values when someone clicks on Update button. Aside from packing the arguments inside CommandArgument separated by commas (archaic and not elegant), how would I pass more than one argument?

<asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CommandName="UpdateRow" CommandArgument="arg_value" Text="Update and Insert" OnCommand="CommandButton_Click" ></asp:LinkButton>

As a note, the values can't be retrieved from any controls on the page, so don't offer any design solutions. Please concentrate on the question asked.

Validate - Ensuring That All Controls Have Value And Passing Them Onto Buttons Command Argument

May 20, 2010

I'm looking for the best design solution in relation to the following scenario:

<form>
<repeater>
<itemtemplate>
<usercontrol>
</itemtemplate>
</repeater>
submit button
</form>

The user control is a series of 5 buttons (similar to a radio button list) where only the latest button is recorded. I.e. if you click button 3 and then button 5, button 5's value is stored. The repeater can have a number of usercontrols, varying in numbers. The typical number if 5/6. When the submit button is pressed, the form needs to collect information from all user comtrols I.e. the database id of the control and the final value. The values will be processed later. At this point i'm looking at the best way of validating values, ensuring that all controls have a value and passing them onto the buttons command argument.

Invalid Postback Or Callback Argument When Clicking Button?

Aug 3, 2010

I have a web page with various controls. Two of them are dropdownlists. The first dropdownlist gets populated from an xml file on the page_load event. This works fine. To the first dropdownlist a cascadingdropdownlist extender is attached which calls a webservice each time the selection in the first dropdownlist is changed. This works fine too. Underneath my two dropdownlists I have a button which posts the page back. However, when I have made a selection in the second dropdownlist and click the button I get the following error:

Web Forms :: "Invalid Postback Or Callback Argument" Error When Using Button With Updatepanel

May 4, 2010

i have had this problem before but haven't found a solution yet. The solutions that i have come across are either bad for security or worked on old versions of the .Net framework. I am using VB.net with framework 3.5 and i get the following error when clicking on a button that is a trigger for an updatepanel:

Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

The msg states that you need to use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation but i can't find anywhere which shows a working example of this in VB.net & in .net framework 3.5. Can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to resolve this postback validation error?

Passing Parameter From Radio Button & Check Box To Email?

I have a form that is HTML, it involves a few string questions, a radio button, and a check box question. After the form is filled out, the info is then passed to an aspx page which sends out an email with the info. I've tired using a hyper link instead but this doens't seem to work because I'm posting back to the same page which already has a Permanter on the URL.

Web Forms :: Passing A Button's Click Event To A OnPreRender Method?

Mar 2, 2010

I'm attempting to use a Button's OnCommand method to handle it's click event so that the event is passed on to OnPreRender method as shown below. So basically the OnPreRender method is called upon a button click. I'm need to use the OnCommand method because I have 2 buttons.

//mark up
<asp:DataPager ID="GroupSearchResultPager" runat="server" OnPreRender="groupSearch_PreRender" >
<asp:Button ID="btnSearchUser" runat="server" Text="Search" OnClick="btnSearchUser_Click" CommandName="searchUser" />
//code behind
protected void btnSearchGroup_Click(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
{
groupSearch_PreRender(this, e); //call groupSearch_PreRender
}
protected void groupSearchView_PreRender(object sender, CommandEventArgs e)
{
if(e.CommandName=="searchUser")
{
do stuff
}
}

However, this results in the following exception:

CS0123: No overload for 'groupSearch_PreRender' matches delegate 'System.EventHandler' So basically groupSearch_PreRender only takes an EventArg. I've tried casting as shown below but it doesn't seem to work. How else can I pass the button click event to the PreRender method?

protected void groupSearchView_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CommandEventArg entry = (CommandEventArg)e; //casting to CommandEventArg
if(entry.CommandName=="searchUser")
{
do stuff
}
}
