Validate - Ensuring That All Controls Have Value And Passing Them Onto Buttons Command Argument
May 20, 2010
I'm looking for the best design solution in relation to the following scenario:
<form>
<repeater>
<itemtemplate>
<usercontrol>
</itemtemplate>
</repeater>
submit button
</form>
The user control is a series of 5 buttons (similar to a radio button list) where only the latest button is recorded. I.e. if you click button 3 and then button 5, button 5's value is stored. The repeater can have a number of usercontrols, varying in numbers. The typical number if 5/6. When the submit button is pressed, the form needs to collect information from all user comtrols I.e. the database id of the control and the final value. The values will be processed later. At this point i'm looking at the best way of validating values, ensuring that all controls have a value and passing them onto the buttons command argument.

I have a TemplateField column in a gridview with a button inside of it.There is NO key value (surely that was not designed by me) , but in the other hand there aren't redundancies when comparing each single column, because they are events, and there is "starting date" and "ending date" of something that could not happen twice at the same time.I've already figured selecting with these values and all, but I just want the button to pass about five arguments to a given function.I've tested:
<asp:Button CommandArgument='<%# Eval("day")%>' ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button" />
And it works properly, the day of the clicked row is passed, and could be retrieved through:
e.CommandArgument.ToString();
in the GridView_RowCommand handler. How do I pass more than one argument? I've thought about concatenating with a separating character (wouldn't be that bad) but besides not knowing how to do it yet (didn't want to invest in a poor solution) I want a smarter one.

I have a gridview with multiple rows, each has a Update button and I need to pass 2 values when someone clicks on Update button. Aside from packing the arguments inside CommandArgument separated by commas (archaic and not elegant), how would I pass more than one argument?
<asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CommandName="UpdateRow" CommandArgument="arg_value" Text="Update and Insert" OnCommand="CommandButton_Click" ></asp:LinkButton>
As a note, the values can't be retrieved from any controls on the page, so don't offer any design solutions. Please concentrate on the question asked.

I'm customizing a NopCommerce store, and am using a gridview to display and sort the products. All that works well. I like how the external pager (user control) works with the gridview, with one exception -- it uses the hyperlink control, so I lost viewstate, which I need to retain for both the search page and to retain the gridview sort options. Based on the page selected (from the pager control), I query the database and rebind the gridview. So, I switched the user control to use LinkButtons instead of Hyperlinks. This is the sample code for one of the buttons:
[Code]....
I set a breakpoint inside the lbCommandClick method, but it never gets hit. Reading other posts tells me that I would have to add the dynamic controls in the OnLoad method, but since this all happens based on other data on the page (say search results), I don't think I can do it onLoad. However, the link buttons do work to cause a postback, and my viewstate is saved correctly. The only problem is that I do not know which button was clicked. I could check Request.Params["__EVENTTARGET"] onLoad, but that is kind of a hack -- I'd much rather be able to set the event handler in the user control and use the CommandArgument property. But, what I have tried so far fails.
Especially one that would allow me to set the EventHandler in the User Control? (e.g. OnlbCommand="PagerLBPageChange" )

I have 2 columns (name and address) in a gridview which are defined as linked buttons. Now when i click on a record in the first row (name) i am able to pass that value (selected name) to another page with rowcommand. Now i am trying to click on the second row (address) on a record but am not able to pass that value to the second page. Don't actually know how to define this in the code below. The first row (name) has to redirect to one page (this what i have already accomplished) and the second row (address) has to redirect to another page
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Name">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="LnkBtnName" runat="server" CommandArgument='<%# Container.DataItem("Name") %>' Text='<%# Eval("Name") %>' CommandName="go" >LinkButton</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Address">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="LnkBtnAddress" runat="server" CommandArgument='<%# Container.DataItem("Address") %>' Text='<%# Eval("Address") %>' CommandName="go" >LinkButton</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
Protected Sub GridView_RowCommand(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewCommandEventArgs) Handles GridView.RowCommand
Dim strName As String = CType(e.CommandArgument, String)
Response.Redirect(String.Format("Test.aspx?id={0}", strName, False))
End Sub
CODE ON PAGE II:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
LblName.Text = Request.QueryString("id")
End Sub

I have a gridview which has rows of 'tickets'. A user has the ability to 'claim' a ticket, this is all set up and works. What i need is to be able to change/hide the 'claim' button and replace it with a 'release' or 'open' command button. Can i achieve this at a rowdatabound level? What i do not want is to query the db everytime to see if the ticket is claimed.

I'm designing a sort of hierarchical system, as follows:
Contract
Master Commodity
Commodity
Sub-Commodity
Part
Each one of these are on their own page (for now). The user starts out on the Contract.aspx page. If they want to see the Master Commodities for the contract they are currently on, they will click the "ImageButton" I have set up, and I pass in as a command argument the ContractID (CommandArgument='<%# Eval("ContractID")%>'). This works great- I get to my Master Commodity page with the Master Commodities filtered on the ContractID I passed in.
Here's my problem: Navigating from the Master Commodity page to the Commodity page will (I think) require passing in the ContractID (so we JUST see stuff for the contract we're on), AND the Master Commodity ID (so we JUST see the Commodities that are related to the Master Commodity). I've tried the following: CommandArgument='<%# Eval("ContractID") + ',' + Eval("MComID")%>', but as you could probably expect, that doesn't work. If I can just do something like above and have a delimiter like the comma, I can go from there and make it work.
