Validate - Ensuring That All Controls Have Value And Passing Them Onto Buttons Command Argument

May 20, 2010

I'm looking for the best design solution in relation to the following scenario:

<form>
<repeater>
<itemtemplate>
<usercontrol>
</itemtemplate>
</repeater>
submit button
</form>

The user control is a series of 5 buttons (similar to a radio button list) where only the latest button is recorded. I.e. if you click button 3 and then button 5, button 5's value is stored. The repeater can have a number of usercontrols, varying in numbers. The typical number if 5/6. When the submit button is pressed, the form needs to collect information from all user comtrols I.e. the database id of the control and the final value. The values will be processed later. At this point i'm looking at the best way of validating values, ensuring that all controls have a value and passing them onto the buttons command argument.

C# - How To Pass An Argument Through The OnClick Property In An Controller

Mar 10, 2011

Here is my ASP code:

<asp:GridView ID="WagerTable" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" CssClass="basix" >
<columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="GameName" HeaderText="Game Name" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="Amount" HeaderText="Amount" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="Comment" HeaderText="Comment" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="CreateTime" HeaderText="Create Time" />
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton runat="server" Text="Accept" OnClick="AcceptWager" ID="AcceptButton" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</columns>
</asp:GridView>

This is my code behind:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
AccountManager accManager = new AccountManager();
MembershipUser newUser = Membership.GetUser(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name);
Guid UserId = (Guid)newUser.ProviderUserKey;
String myConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ApplicationServices"].ConnectionString;
SqlDataReader reader;
using (SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString))
{
myConnection.Open();
String selectSql = "SELECT * FROM aspnet_Wagers INNER JOIN aspnet_Games ON aspnet_Wagers.GameId = aspnet_Games.GameId";
SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(selectSql, myConnection);
myCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserId", UserId);
reader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();
WagerTable.DataSource = reader;
WagerTable.DataBind();
myConnection.Close();
}
}
protected void AcceptWager()
{
}

I want to be able to have it so that each LinkButton can pass through an ID from the database as an parameter into the AcceptWager function and then I will do with it from there. The sql column for the ID is WagerId. It is returned in that query that i execute, so it is already in the reader.

Forms Data Controls :: Passing Repeater Container.dataitem To JavaScript Function?

Sep 16, 2010

I am collecting user roles into a single dimension string array.

I have a repeater that its source set to that array. The repeater template includes list of checkboxes for the values in the array.The checkbox text is set to: Text='<%# Container.DataItem %>'

All is good till this point.

But I am trying to call a javascript function triggered by clickign a checkbox and pass it the container.dataitem, but the javascript doesn't seem to be reading the value and either complain about string not being in correct format or that treats the container.dataitem as a liter. This is the trial that didn't work (I tried many different things too):

DetermineVal(<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem) %>);
determineval is my javascript function

Can I do that with a single dimension array?

C# - Passing More Than One Argument In Button In Gridview?

Apr 5, 2010

I have a TemplateField column in a gridview with a button inside of it.There is NO key value (surely that was not designed by me) , but in the other hand there aren't redundancies when comparing each single column, because they are events, and there is "starting date" and "ending date" of something that could not happen twice at the same time.I've already figured selecting with these values and all, but I just want the button to pass about five arguments to a given function.I've tested:

<asp:Button CommandArgument='<%# Eval("day")%>' ID="Button2" runat="server" Text="Button" />

And it works properly, the day of the clicked row is passed, and could be retrieved through:

e.CommandArgument.ToString();

in the GridView_RowCommand handler. How do I pass more than one argument? I've thought about concatenating with a separating character (wouldn't be that bad) but besides not knowing how to do it yet (didn't want to invest in a poor solution) I want a smarter one.

VS 2010 - Passing Image Control To Function In A Class?

Oct 31, 2012

I wrote a function in code behind of the aspx file to get from an SQL database the imageurl and assign it to that image's URL. This works fine so I decided to move it to a class but now the imageurl does not exist because the passed image control is now refering to system.drawing.image not the web image.

Code:
Public Sub ShowCodeImages(sProdCode As String, ByRef imgCode As Control, sConnectionString As String)

Dim sSQL As String
Dim sqlDCStock As New SqlConnection
Dim sqlDAStock As SqlDataAdapter
Dim sqlDTStock As DataTable

Forms Data Controls :: Using GridView With A User Control And Passing Object Into Control?

Jan 8, 2010

I would like to use the gridview paging feature and have built a gridview with a user control. The data source has lots of columns, so to make it easier I want to return a LIST<MyObject> and just pass <Myobject> into the user control rather than all the data elements. Not sure how I access the object of the data source to bind to the control. Assume it would be during ondatarowbound.

Also, my guess is there is a better way to do this than gridview. I'd take either solution that allows me to have easy paging and pass the complete object into the user control

Gridview - Passing Multiple Argument Through CommandArgument Of Button?

Mar 5, 2010

I have a gridview with multiple rows, each has a Update button and I need to pass 2 values when someone clicks on Update button. Aside from packing the arguments inside CommandArgument separated by commas (archaic and not elegant), how would I pass more than one argument?

<asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CommandName="UpdateRow" CommandArgument="arg_value" Text="Update and Insert" OnCommand="CommandButton_Click" ></asp:LinkButton>

As a note, the values can't be retrieved from any controls on the page, so don't offer any design solutions. Please concentrate on the question asked.

Forms Data Controls :: Passing The Underlying Data Of The Databound Control?

Mar 30, 2010

In my asp.net web page i have a dropdown box. Say like i have to bind EmployeeName to this dropdown box to show up as items.

I am using a dataTable to bind to this grid by having two columns in DataTable (EmployeeId and EmployeeName). But i am only binding the EmployeeName to the dropdown list box.

In the UI, after the user selects an Employee, I need to pass that employee's id to a function. Is there any way, i can directly pass the underlying data (EmployeeID in the DataTable attached to this dropdown), when the user selects the EmployeeName from the dropdown. Or i will have to make a roundtrip to the database and get the selected Employee's Id and then pass it to the function.

Forms Data Controls :: Passing Grid As A Property To User Control?

Aug 10, 2010

In my project, I need to create a user control to handle the sorting and pagination of all the grids in the application. The grid however will be different in different pages with different formatting.

I am able to do this by exposing a property from user control which takes gridview as the input.

then in page load, i bind this grid, and assign the sorting and paging event handlers to this gridview variable.

This way I am able to do the sorting and paging, but the problem is I have to bind the grid in all the post backs, and then in the sorting and paging events.

So when a user sorts, I have to bind the grid twice, once in page_load and then in sort event of user control.

I can store the first set of records in viewstate and bind that in page load, but is there any other way, so that i dont need to bind the grid in all post backs but only inside of not postback.
