Is there a way of stopping the main page waiting for a usercontrol to load before it can finish loading?
I have a usercontrolthat has to do a lot of DB calls which can take a few seconds making the page slow to load. Ideally I'd like the main page to load straight away and then the usercontrol content appear when it is ready.
I have to call a function to run a report through a web service, then call another function to get the data but only after the 1st function has finished processing. How do I make c# wait till the first function has finished processing to run the second function?
my code looks something like:
NetworkCredential Cred = new NetworkCredential("uid", "pw");
ReportWebService reportService = new ReportWebService();
reportService.Credentials = Cred;
string s = reportService.runReportAsync("0ede9884e6394daf73fa418e9bffd4fc");
string report = reportService.getReportData(s);
This code will break because s is not set since the function (runreportasynch) has not finished running to produce s.
i would like to use script manager and update panel in different domain to accommodate an other domain web site inside a iframe, but it prompts me a an error alert box (An error has occurred in this dialog. Error: 54 Permission Denied), may i know why?
Is that any solution to solve the problem?
Secondly, in the different domain, the JavaScript function EndRequest(sender, args) is not work after finish the loading whereas the InitializeRequest(sender, args) is work. May i know why?
On my page I have a placeholder where I load a usercontrol when I select an item in dropdownlist.

If I press F5 (IE) after user control was rendered, I get IE's warning window that IE needs to resend the information....
How can I prevent it and why does it happen?
UPDATE:Maybe there is another approach? I want to load specific control (with it's markup) when user selects it from the dropdownlist.
if a postback is made the control shouldn't disappear(only if another control was selected from the dropdownlist) Everything is inside update panel!

In page load event, some code is being processed for displaying a report which takes 1/2 minutes to display on the aspx page, meanwhile the aspx is being empty and nothing is displyed, this is not so userfriendly. The dll contains several usercontrols which dynamically create webcontrols within them.
I do not have Virtual Path of the UserControls to use in LoadControl(String virtualpath) and LoadControl(Type, object[]) does not work(why the heck is it there in the first place anyways).

So I'm trying to dynamically load a usercontrol into a placeholder in another usercontrol inside a updatepanel.
basically I've got this markup:

In the codebehind of the popup usercontrol I have:

Nothing loads into the placeholder though.
But in the show method I can load regular server-controls fine like this:

Can anyone explain to me why regular controls are loaded fine, but my usercontrol isn't loaded?
I ma trying to load a usercontrol into a table. My usercontrol contains some literal controls.
I can't set the text of these literal controls to anythign, as in my code-behind of my control, whenever I try to access my controls, they come back as null.

I have a aspx page to do asynchronous calls. The page gets data from the database(spends 30 seconds in the stored procedure) and then returns the results to the client. This is done through a jquery post.
The problem is that while it does the stored procedure for 30 seconds, the rest of my site can't make any requests.

We have installed a web site written by others which is compiled with Visual Studio 2008 and hosted in Windows server 2008 R2.
The IIS connection timeout is set to 120 seconds. But for some pages, the first page loading fails with HTTP 404 error but sequential refresh can bring the page up. The same problem happens for some images which fail to load in web pages. We are not very sure it is network related issue or hosting issue.
I know i could possibly just throw and exception and let the server handle the interruption but for personal knowledge and exploration, i would like to do it more than having the server automate it for me. I hav built a shared method that will take in information such as:

During the body, it just formats a series of information into a table and i would like to add the table to the page. Now i know you just simply do "Page.Controls.Add(Object)" to add the table to the page. Problem is that it adds it to the bottom of the page after rendering all the other content.
I would like for this method to interrupt the rendering process, clear out what has been built up and then output the table to the substitute the page pre-defined content.Very similar to what IIS spits out when it encounters and error and show the Exception name, message, and stack-trace. Although my exception is by no means that complicated.
In the process of migrating an old VS2003 web app to VS2008, I'm running into this issue and haven't been able to find a resolution. Sample code: "Default.aspx" has a PlaceHolder(ToolHeader). In the Page_Load(), we dynamically load a user control passing in the virtual path to a helper method [public Control ParseUserControl(string virtualPath)]. This reads the content from the physical path, returns
a Control from ParseControl() method. I immediately get the following error when I open the default.aspx page in browser.

Can't figure out why it can't load the type. Namespaces are looking right. I try removing the Inherits="DynamicUC.UcControl" attribute from the "ucControl.ascx", it loads the page fine. Also, this control is a simple one and has no code behind. There are others with actual code behind. They won't work if I remove the Inherits attribute.

I started creating a new website in Visual Studio 2008 and in my site, there are two pages such that clicking treenode on parent page will take the user to second page. But when i execute my project and then stop the debugging from IDE, the child window is not getting closed. I am not sure where i am missing.

I have update panel on the page to avoid postback and placed a dropdownlist control within that update panel. DrodownList is filled with Category names and also it's autopostback set to True.
Now whenever dropdownlist index change's on select, untill page loads complete data it should show mesage as "Loading.... in center and middle of the page and background should become bit transparent". And when page load completely with data then that background and message should get disappear.
I have created a simple dataset with my ObjcetDataSource to my SQL table named Invoices and a new FormView. My form inserts are working 100% correctly, however after some testing i noticed the insert happens again if i hit the refresh button on my browser after an initial insert. I am currently submitting the form back to itself with a success/fail message returned on the page so that the user can keep inserting more records if they choose. This is done in my Inserted behaviour.
In my ObjectDataSource_Inserting code i am setting the values of a date prior to my insert. How do i stop a second INSERT from happening when the user refreshes the browser? I thought it was what IsPostBack was used for? Here is my code:
