i have a web application which which proccesses some request on some data that client selects, when the client selects more than 20 objects and clicks on proceed the client recieves this error, because the server takes a long time to process, however if the records are less and hence a timely response is recieved, no such error comes?

I am getting this ajax timeout error.I am using updatepanel and update progress. Locally am not getting this error but after hosting this error is coming and the page is not navigating to the next page to show the result.

I have an asp.net page that will be doing some processing that may take a very long time to complete. I cannot just set the page timeout value since this is going to be in a hosted environment and the timeout values that I set in my web.config are overridden by the server host. What I'm doing is taking a file from a FileUpload control and doing some web requests to a 3rd party service for each line in the file, all of which may take a very long time to process a large file. I'm talking on the order of, say, 30 minutes, and there's just no way to optimize this any further to cut down on the processing time. Is it possible to even do such a lengthy page request in asp.net? Can someone give me a pointer in the right direction here to make this happen? Is my only hope to create an async page? It seems that doing an async page is the way to go if I have a potential for a lot of lengthy requests, but really this massive of a request is going to happen VERY rarely so this is not an issue of running out of thread pool since most of the time this particular request will be completed relatively quickly, but on occasion it may receive a very large file it will need to process and will take a very long time. So what is the best way to handle that case?I'd also like to update the client with the processing status as the processing is going on. I'm familiar with doing client ajax calls via jQuery to a page webmethod so if there is some clean way to update the client as this long processing

I have seen a few posts regarding this issue but not one specific to my problem and I have no ideas as to what I need to do to debug this.I have some combo boxes on an aspx pages, when I select a value from the first one, it fills the second with value and so on with the third and fourth. This works with no problems until I wrap an asp.net UpdatePanel around the combo boxes and try to "ajaxify" the whole process so the page isn't dancing around. The exact error I get is: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown error occurred while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 404

In one grid there is only one column and entries are 100+, all entries are hyperlink entries, but the gridview does not look nice with one column and 100+entries, is there any way I can split that entries in 3-4 coluns to look even.

I want to be able to (in code) tell the page to refresh at that point ignoring anything else it was going to do.
Explanation:
I have a property lets call it AllUsers
AllUsers

Now I have put it like this because in my code I want to just use this property to browse all the users and not have to check if its null or not up to date. The problem is if my method .GetAllUsers() throws an exception e.g. database is unavailable. If this happens I want to display a message to the user and reload the page to its initial state.
e.g. something like this

Now I can reload the page using Response.AppendHeader("Refresh", "0;URL=ThisPage.aspx");
but how can I abort all code? because if I use this where I have placed my method the code will run and then reload on the next page load.
Should I change by property design? I wanted to have a property which would always be valid and up to date so any code using it wouldn't have to worrie

I have a thread class which makes a web request. After 20-30 urls request, its throwing exception: System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out. My code is below where it is throwing exception:

In last line : httpRes = (HttpWebResponse)httpReq.GetResponse(); it is throwing exception. "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."

We have page that allows the users to upload documents (multiple). When the upload takes a long time - either due to the size of the files or due to slow upload speeds - we get a exception saying "Request timed out".
We found that the exception is thrown as soon as the upload is complete. So we have modified the executionTimeout config entry to 6000 secs. But this error still shows up consistently. We are running IIS6, .net 3.5 sp1 (asp .net 2.0).
Update.I'm able to reproduce this issue with relatively small files (multiple files with total of 75MB)

We have a WCF service self-hosted in a Windows Service. Right now we're experiencing a really strange behavior with it, which is that every 23 hours, approximately, the service raises an exception for every call made to it with the following error: Server was unable to process request. ---> The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:01:00. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.---> The HTTP request to [URL]has exceeded the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.---> The operation has timed out. The duration of the failure is between 4 and 6 minutes and, without touching anything at all, the service then goes out of the failure and the following responses are ok, for the next 23 hours, and then, again the error.
As pointed above, the WCF service is self-hosted in a Windows Service, installed on a Windows 2008 Server OS. The clients calling the service are two different Asp.NET web services, one running on the same server and the other on a virtual server in a production environment. Both clients have presented the same issue. The configuration of the complete environment is this: Phone calls are received in an IVR system (let's say node 1), which calls a web service (node 2) that retrieves some information about the customer calling. Once the customer approves the operation, the IVR calls the web service (node 2), which relays the call to the WCF Service (node 3) to process a credit operation. The WCF then makes a TCPIP socket operation through a VPN connection to another entity (node 4). That communication lasts between 3 and 10 seconds, is registered in a persistent database and then is sent back in the same path to the customer (node 3, 2 and 1). This platform processes about 2,000 transactions a day, 24/7, except for the ones failing with the timeout. The reason to have the transaction relayed to a second service is for security purposes. The amount of data exchanged in each call is about 200 or 300 bytes.
I've already tried most of the workarounds posted right here in stackoverflow ([http://stackoverflow.com/questions/981475/wcf-timeout-exception-detailed-investigation][1]) and the ones appearing there and some others found in google. The error is still persistent. The TCPIP socket operations are logged to a text file, and found no issues there with the response times from the external entity. The largest time was 9 seconds. Also, a database operations trace has been logged and did not show any performance issues either. The concurrency mode of the service is set to ConcurrencyMode.Multiple and, before going into production we made an stress test with ten clients making iterative calls over 2 hours, processing the wcf service about 30k transactions with no signs of performance impact. However, I already discarded a concurrency issue because the average time between transactions is one minute, and the largest one lasts for 9 seconds approximately. Besides, all other transactions complete successfully, independently of the load on the service.
I cannot increase the timeout of one minute given the fact that the service is for executing ecommerce operations and in fact there's nothing really taking more than a few seconds to complete. This are the facts, and I hope you guys could come up with something I haven't already tried yet. Please have in mind at the time of answering that this is a critical mission service, and the changes or configurations possible to apply in a production environment are very limited.

When my Application face a long-time process, i.e fetch a query (SELECT a, b, c FROM d)This query needs 10 seconds to be completed in the MSSQL Management Studio, but when the ASP.NET application try to fetch it, it refuse to return any response to any other requests made on that Server.
I am hosting my Application on VPS Server with good specifications, and I am giving this example the (SELECT a, b, c FROM d) just to tell you the issue, it can be any process, maybe processing a movie, or even fetching some data through external API that is experiencing some slow-down,or whatever.

I would like to makea windows service. whenever the user of my ASP.NET application has to do a time-consuming task, the IIS would give the task to the service which will return a token(a temporary name for the task) and in the background the service would do the task. At anytime, the user would see the status of his/her task which would be either pending in queue, processing, or completed. The service would do a fixed number of jobs in parallel, and would keep a queue for the next-incoming tasks. In addition there would be a WinForms application for system administrator that would allow adding special ADMIn tasks such as "Clean orphaned files" or "archive data of inactive users".
Can you point me to something that can jump start me on this as a whole concept - I know I can google for windows services and I am able to do it myself from scratch but time is of the Essence so maybe you know of something that is already there and i can use block to build out of.

On my current project I have to accept 2 Excel spreadsheets that will be uploaded by clients, process them and create a download package based on this information. This process includes extracting data from the sheets, updating our databases and building several PDF files for the download package. This takes between 15 seconds to 2 minutes to complete, depending on the complexity of the request. Naturally, I want to show some kind of processing indicator rather than just leaving the user hanging while the page loads.
Here's the problem: How to show this processing indicator.
I have to do a full postback to upload the files so this eliminates several nice AJAX indicator methods (sponsoring users rejected the AJAX toolkit async file upload, saying it was confusing to them). If I process on any of the page events during the postback, the page doesn't load until the lengthy process is completed so the browser/site looks 'hung'.
Basically, I need some ideas on how to display a 'building your download' graphic while the lengthy process is working that will also work with a full postback.

I have Requirement to update the label text as we are processing the code (Long running).
Example:
I have Label and button on aspx page.
On button Click Iam calling the AppCode which is going to do long work for me.
I want to update the label text from the appcode (which should reflect in the page then and there.)
I have tryed to pass the text value to the label but it shows the changed text only after the event for the button click is finished.
I tryed using timer but as soon as i click the button the refreshing stops.
I tryed progress template and UpdateProgress without success. (I know we can update at the start and end of proccess using this)
I dont want to use iframe (I know we can do using iframe)

I was wondering if there was anyway to populate the page with asp.net code like "<asp:Repeater ID="rptProducts" runat="server">MORE_CODE</asp:Repeater>" and then have the server use that code on the page. I'm not sure if i'm making sense. Like writing the asp.net front end code to the page dynamically before the .net engine generates the output html.

when ASP.NET throws an application error, IIS shows the 500 HTML error, but when a WCF service throws a FaultException (IIS 500), the client gets a proper SOAP fault with error message in it.
Is there any good documentation on this request processing?

I am experiencing a request timeout from IIS when I run a long operation. Behind the scene my ASP.NET application is processing data, but the number of records being processed is great, and thus the operation is taking a long time.
However, I think IIS times out the session. Is this a problem with IIS or ASP.NET session?

How can I ensure that the auction ends at the predetermined time, considering the fact that an application instance may not be running when it is time? The application will be hosted with IIS7. I have devloped a dashboard, which contains different sections. Each section shows a certain user control. some user controls shows graphs and grids and some information after some calculations. Some of these controls take times (10 seconds) to load, that's why whole page take a remarkable time to load.
I wana display skelton of page and some of controls, not taking much time, and display some processing sign on controls taking time more than 5 seconds. and refresh contents of these controls after processing at server done.

After checking the asp.net version on the web server it seems only the version 2.0 is available and so when I browse to the site i.e. http://servername/site
then I get this error below. Should I put something in the web.config file to solve this issue?It seems the error is to do with the reportviewer control I am using.
