View 3 RepliesI manage a large asp.net site which has previously been converted from static html site to asp.net. For several reasons (mainly SEO) we decided not to rename all the files to .aspx back when we originally converted the site. This was very easy to do by simply adding the buildProvider and httpHandler to the web.config.
<buildProviders>
<add extension=".html" type="System.Web.Compilation.PageBuildProvider"/>
</buildProviders>
<httpHandlers>
<add path="*.html" verb="*" type="System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory"/>
</httpHandlers>
Now I am upgrading the site to use Asp.net WebPages with Razor cshtml files. I can rename all the files if necessary, and use url rewriting to make the urls stay the same, however it would be much easier if I could just configure the web.config to tell it to parse .html files as if they were .cshtml. I have searched around quite a bit, and could not find anything equivalent to the PageHandlerFactory for razor pages. It appears as though it is just an internal mechanism in the .net 4.0 ISAPI handler.
The site is currently running on Windows 2003 server and IIS 6. We will be upgrading to 2008/IIS 7.5 in the near future, but I'd prefer not to wait for that. Is there any way to get the .html files to be parsed by razor as if they were .cshtml files?
I am not sure this is the forums but I dont know where to write this and this is an EMERGENCY ::I had windows 2003 server. on C: and I have installed windows 2008 server.I had SQL server installed and all of the database files stored inside c:program filessql server....PROBLEM is that after I installed 2008 server I can see 2 folders of program files one for x86 and the other for 64 bits.
View 2 RepliesI have a form with 10 file inputs. They can contain 10 random files with random sizes. If I send these files to ASP.NET server with this code:
var count = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Count;
var TotalSize = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < count; i++ )
{
HttpPostedFile postedFile = HttpContext.Current.Request.Files.Get(i);
TotalSize += postedFile.ContentLength;
}
And as you can see I didn't save the files on the server, will this code just calculate the summary of files without need to receive the whole file from the client (And therefore it would be very fast)?
I am trying to open different types of files that I have uploaded on my sql server database. I would like to display all the list of files in Gridview. I have some code that allows users to upload file attachments into a varbinary(max) column in SQL Server from their web browser. It has been working perfectly fine for almost two years, but all of a sudden it stopped working. And it stopped working on only the production database server -- it still works fine on the development server.
I can only conclude that the code is fine and there is something up with the instance of SQL Server itself. But I have no idea how to isolate the problem.
I insert a record into the ATTACHMENT table, only inserting non-binary data like the title and the content type, and then chunk-upload the uploaded file using the following code:

Quick question. When updating aspx.cs files on a virtual dedicated server does it require a restart of the virtual server for the changes to take effect?
View 5 Repliesdownloading files from an FTP server. The FTP server produces new files from time to time. so my application needs to Download only the "NEW" files and disregard what i have already downloaded previously. I have a time stamp on when was the last download time. I Using FtpWebRequest, WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectory, WebRequestMethods.Ftp.GetDateTimestamp. The problem is the ListDirectory gives me all the List in the FTP directory and i have to loop all the way down starting again from the start to the last file and check it with my last time stamp to DL the NEW files another problem is the FTP Directory contains 30,000 Files so it would take long until ill find the my last download time to start again on that point..
View 16 RepliesI want to enable the users of my website to download the files from the server, but I can do it only with those files which are inside the website's folder(by creating hyperlinks to those files).
How to enable the users to download files from server which are not in the website's folder but somewhere else on the server.
Brief Description: I want to be able to use my asp.net application to access files on another server used as a file system(storing .pdf, .xls, .doc files etc.). In Depth Description: Right now the web page has a gridview. The gridview has links to documents using paths like \servernamefilename. Our server guys said that this method would be using a CIFS protocol and would not work.
That we would need to set it up so that the application accesses the file through a service account or something. Does this make sense to anyone and can any provide a more in depth explanation. What would we have to change programatically to have our .net application access files on another server?

I have deployed my software on a server,In my software there is a tool which reads an excel file and displays the content in a gridView.

Should I upload my excel files on server and then read it or directly read it from the user's PC?
How is it possible to move files from a folder to web server through FTP, using ASP.Net with C# ?
View 1 Repliesi write a FileServer Project (For uploading Files and give them to users), it is webapplication, i want to upload files to another server ( i mean another computer), i have its address : (172.16.10.30), so what should i do?
View 7 RepliesI couldn't upload anythink to a server using FileUpload control (access denied exception). I changed permissions for required folder and gave aspnet user full access. It did not work (I got access denied exception). Than I changed permissions again and gave full access to all users on the machine - now upload works. As far as I understand, it makes my site vulnerable and I should give full access to only one user. Could anyone tell me which user IIS 7.5 uses?
View 2 Repliesmy aspx web app needs to allow clients to load files (excel files) to some place in the server, to be able to open and read content via OLEDB immediataly after upload. Are there any "best practices" or suggestions about location, naming and security of temporary files folders? Also I need these files to be automatically deleted after use, I would like to be sure they always are. VS 2008/ .net 3.5 framework/ Windows server 2003 and 2008
View 2 RepliesUsers can upload files to the server, which are stored effectively forever.
A few of my ideas involve logging every upload, but then the files are usually referenced in html which isn't easy to track.
Files can sit unused but still be referenced. I could do a fuill text search on these, but that's pretty brute force.
My system Uploads files to an IIS server and then i manipualate them and after finished doing every thing, i need to delete the original file, the problem is that the IIS "grabs" the file and i can't delete it, when i close the procces i can delete it manualy from the server, but until i close the procces i can't even do that...
I'm using:File.Delete(Server.MapPath(OriginalFileVirtualPath)); to delete the file.
p.s. for now i'm using the .net server, not a full active IIS, but i don't think that the problem is over there...It even make some sence that when i upload a file to the sever, it won't let to delete it strate away, but i'm sure there is a work around...
I have an asp.net web site that allows users to upload .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx and .pdf files to a specified folder on the server. After the user uploads the file and if they save a new 'item' record in the database, I will change the file name to include the item rec's unique ID and then update the item record's 'Attach' Varchar(50) field with the path to the file on the server. What I was hoping to do was use a HyperLink control and set the .NavigateURL to the path of the file ie: hyperlink.NavigateURL
= "C:WebsiteUploadsRec_133.docx" then when the user views the record they could click on the hyperlink and the file would open on the users desktop (granted if the user has word 2007 installed). The problem is the hyperlink idea does not work. Would anyone have a good solution or method for me to dynamicly set a control etc. to allow the user to open the attached file on the server.
i made a file uploader to folder named (Books) and i saved the name and the bath of the uploaded file to my DataBase but when i wanna download the uploaded file from the server ? how i make it ? by hyperlink ?
View 3 RepliesI am working on some project where I am needed to allow users to upload files, but only in pdf and .doc format. Now I know how to let users upload files, but I do not know how to check whether an uploading files is pdf and .doc or not. How could I know that? And how could I know the size of each file, for the file should be no greater than 3 MB?
Also, I have alloted a separate folder for the files that are uploaded by users. I have one page that displays the links to download the files in that folder. I needed to know how could I keep the track of the folder, for the files get uploaded every time? Or in other words, how could my 'downloads page' know about the files in that folder and create links for each file in that folder for the download? Also, if I create a link of a file for downloading purposes, will the file be downloaded when one clicks the link?
Have a question about the best approach for file storage in a SQL database. I have a table called Widgets, and each row in the Widgets table can have multiple files. I also have another table called Extensions, and again each record in this table can have many files.
Here is what I am considering:
Approach #1:
[Code]....
That approach is very simple and easy to use, but I feel that I could merge the two file tables into one, then use lookup tables:
Approach #2:
[Code]....
The thing is, there are no duplicate or shared files between the two types of objects. So even though I feel better about approach #2, I am concerned that I may be adding additional complexity (and using more server resources to perform the joins), than needed.
