MVC 1- Model Binding With Disabled Textbox?

Apr 16, 2010

I have a textbox that I am defining as

<%= Html.TextBox("Username", Model.Form.Username,
new { @class = "textbox", @disabled = "disabled" })%>

In my action

[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
[ValidateAntiForgeryToken]
public ActionResult EditLogin(LoginForm post) {
return View(model);
}

post.Username will be blank, all other properties bind correctly, but if I change @disabled="disabled to @readonly="readonly" the username binds properly and everything works. It looks like model binding ignores values in disabled fields. Is their a way around this? I still need the field's value to bind to the model. I can use readonly but would prefer to use disabled so it is visually apparent to the user that they cannot edit the value of the field.

TextBox Disabled Style Is Not Consistent In Different Browsers?

Feb 17, 2011

ASP.NET

When TextBox1.Enabled = false; it has a gray background in FF3, but no change in IE8 or Chrome. So it's harder to tell if it's disabled or not. Is there any more general way to make the disable textbox rendered more consistent on a top-level? So I don't need to change this for every page or every website?

Web Forms :: Range Validator Fails Because The Textbox Is Disabled?

Feb 24, 2010

I have a couple of textboxes (actually a set of pairs of textboxes) where users can either enter a value or a percentage of a value but cannot use both. So in any given time some of these textboxes are disabled depending on which option the user chose.

For the textboxes representing percentages, there is a range validator to make sure only values from 0 to 100 are entered. If user selectes to enter datanot in percentage form, the percentage textbox gets filled automatically based on the value user enters. So if the total is something like 8 and user enters 2, the corresponding percentage textbox gets filled with 25% (minus the % sign).

However, the vaidation fails as if there is nothing there, persumably because the textbox is disabled. How do I get around this?

Web Forms :: Textbox Contents Persist Even With Viewstate Disabled?

Jul 16, 2010

After witnessing some strange behvior I'm confused about ViewState again :/

My understanding was a textbox needed to have "EnableViewState" set to true otherwise when the you postback the fields contents would disappear.

That's not happening, I created a textbox and button and a label.

The button was set to copy contents of text box into the label when I pressed it.

I did and the text was populated into the label and remained in the textbox?

This was inside an UpdatePanel and the page itself has a MasterPage, so that might have something to do with it, but I have about 50 textboxes on this page all with viewstate=true on, so I would really like to know what controls need to have enableViewstate=true in order o function properly.

Oct 21, 2010

If a control is disabled (enabled = false), will the validator controls associated with it automatically know not to carry out validation?i have a checkbox and a textbox, if the checkbox is checked, the textbox is enabled, and has to have a value, where i used a required field validator.but if the checkbox is not checked, textbox is then disabled, however, the validator controls still seem to be trying to validate the disabled textbox.so is there a way to disable validator according to textbox's state? such as textbox.enable = true? seems like causevalidation method requires multiple button, owever i only need one...

Web Forms :: Scroll Bar Disabled When Viewing Page Linked To Master Page?

Apr 26, 2010

I have a project that is based on a Master Page. I also have user controls that I use as well. Any page that requires scrolling in Design Mode will not scroll. The scroll bar is disabled. I have to switch to Source Mode and then add the text that I need or find the controls that need modified or updated. I have user controls that require scrolling as well but they work just fine. Only the pages tied to the master page. This is very annoying and only happens on certain projects.

Web Forms :: Textboxes Are Getting Disabled Randomly In Aspx Page?

Apr 1, 2010

I have a aspx content page which is associated with a master page. In the code behind of the master page there have code to populate menu control. Besides the menu there is an AJAX Accordion cotrol which is also binding. In the master page there have n number of javascripts written which are being used in master page and also in the content pages.

In the content page n numbers of functionalities are there. Some times I noticed that the textboxes of the content page is getting disabled randomly. Suppose I have perfomed a task in the page and after that I have seen that the textboxes are disabled but later I have performed the same task and it didn't happen, means the problem is arising randomly.

Onething I want to mention here whenever I am mouse clciking on the textboxes when the textboxes are disabled, nothing happens. Neither the any text being selected nor the mouse pointer is showing (textbox doesn't get focus) but after mouse clicking on one of the textbox if I try to type something the letters are coming in the text box without the letter which I first typed and in the meantime all the textboxes are getting enable again.

Page Created With MultiView - Checkbox Ticked But Disabled

May 24, 2013

My page was created with a multiview which has 3 views.

Now on one of the view I have a checkbox called chkpeer. So, when this checkbox is checked it triggers a submit button to be set to visible and active with the code below;

Code:
Protected Sub chkpeer_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles chkpeer.CheckedChanged
If chkpeer.Checked = True Then
chkpeer.Enabled = True
btnSub.Visible = True
Else
btnSub.Visible = False
End If
End Sub

The asp code is

Code:
<asp:CheckBox ID="chkpeer" runat="server" CssClass="checkbox" AutoPostBack = "True" />

Now the problem is, when I check chkpeer - btnsub becomes visible set to TRUE. Then when I move to the next View without clicking the submit button then return to the view with chkpeer,

1) chkpeer is still ticked but disabled
2) btnsub visible is SET to FALSE.

I would prefer one of the following

Either have the chkpeer checked - enabled and btnSub still Visible (Ideally)

Or Chkpeer unchecked and enabled so that when I check it again it activates the btnSub ..

Web Forms :: Disabled DropDownList Does Not Appear In Page - Request.Form When Submitting Via LinkButton

May 25, 2010

I do some stuff with dynamic DropDownLists. A choice at one level makes the next level appear and so on.

When I open up an old report for editing, the first level is not editable so I set that DropDownList to Enabled=false (still dynamically in code).

My problem is that when I press save (a LinkButton) I first come to my OnInit as usual and check the Page.Request.Form for my DropDownLists, but then the first list is not represented.

But if I change one of the lists when editing, a postback is made, then there is no problem at all with the Page.Request.Form, the first list is there all the time.

Is there some fundamental difference with causing a PostBack from a LinkButton vs a Dynamically Added DropDownList?

C# - Page With ViewState Disabled Still Be Validating A Viewstate Field?

Sep 24, 2010

I have a shopping cart page (Cart.aspx) that has a button that will (sometimes) post to a third party payment gateway, if payment is necessary. The payment gateway will process the payment and then do a silent post to my website (Order.aspx) so I can update the order status.

Order.aspx always throws an invalid viewstate error, even though viewstate is disabled on the page.

What's happening is that Cart.aspx (which has viewstate enabled) posts to the payment gateway, and the gateway will post it back as part of the silent post. Even though Order.aspx has viewstate disabled and validation disabled, it still tries to validate the __viewstate field it's being given.

I know setting EnableViewState=false will disable the rendering of the __viewstate field, but if another page provides the field, shouldn't it still skip validation? I tried calling ViewState.Clear() on the Page_Init event of Order.aspx, but ViewState is apparently empty. how to get around this? I don't want to disable ViewState on Cart.aspx (in some cases it may be necessary), but I can't figure out how to clear it on Order.aspx.
