Jquery - Is The .NET Ajax Library Dead
Nov 22, 2010
I've recently stumbled across a few blogs that say the ASP.NET Ajax Library is dead, in particular:
http://encosia.com/2010/10/04/understanding-jquerys-impact-on-microsoft-and-asp-net/
http://weblogs.asp.net/toddanglin/archive/2010/04/19/microsoft-ajax-client-library-is-dead-long-live-jquery.aspx Is this generally true, technically and practically?

I have a few linkbuttons that each open the save dialog to let users save file to the local machine. But after any link is clicked the page is dead afterwards (nothing works) and page has to be refreshed.
So do I have to force refresh after download is complete or does it have to do something with postback?
{
StringCollection strValuesToSearch = new StringCollection();
strValuesToSearch.Add("findword");
string stringToReplace;
stringToReplace = TextBox1.Text;

Ever since we have moved to the 4.0 framework one of my apps now reports errors when users enter punctuation into the form. Which is a good thing, I do have a function in place that replaces all apostrophes with a double apostrophe but decided to beef it up by applying the httpUtility.htmlencode to the textboxes before I send it to a confirmation page that then emails the page to me and the person submitting the form. The problem is that the checks I have put into place to sanitize the textboxes don't fire because the 4.0 framework stops the submission dead in its tracks before the code can be ran. I have set the ValidateRequest="false" in the page tag but still no luck in getting sanitization to run. Is there something I am missing? From all I have read it should have worked.

For a slick UI, I am deciding between using a client side library (JQuery or ExtJS) or go with the AJAX Control toolkit. I understand that the widgets supported by ExtJS rich library does not match what's there in the toolkit. What are the pros of cons of using one over the other?

I have an ASP.NET application using a master page. I am adding a reference to the JQuery library in the master page however there are some content pages and user controls that reference the JQuery library directly. Will I need to remove each reference from those pages or can I leave them in place even though I am adding a reference into the master page of the application?

I am looking at the twitter api page http://apiwiki.twitter.com/ and I noticed that they have already built libraries that are wrappers against the twitter api. So I am thinking this is the best way to go but I am unsure which C# library I should use.
What I am trying to do is make some simple service or cmd line application that will help me automate retweeting.
So I am looking for a library that will allow me to get posts from other twitter accounts and then retweet them from another account.
I am not sure if the library can do this or not. Otherwise I was thinking of getting the RSS feed from the twiter account I want to get the twitters from parse out the new ones and use a library to retweet them on my own account.
I have not used twitter much so I am hopping someone can shed some light on this.

i have a website which has a <IMG> and/or <asp:Image> in it.
The user has an option to upload an image. so if the user does upload an image it will be displayed in the stated controls above. but if they don't the control displays its alternative text or an "x" icon. can i just place a default image in it if there is no image reference to it to display?

I need a set of basic Ajax controls that work well with ASP.NET. I need the basic controls, like lists, trees, masked edits, accordians etc. However, my twist is that many of the users of my web app will be using mobile browsers on Android and iPhone, so the controls need to work well in small screen touch oriented formats. (For example, the ASP.Net Ajax library resize control just doesn't work well in this environment.)
Does anyone have any experience and recommendations in this area?

s is really old news, but I just found out today. I was watching a channel 9 video on jquery and wcf (http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/Devs4Devs/WCF-and-jQuery-A-Perfect-Couple) and the narrator said at the MIX conference that the Microsoft Client Library is dead and that jQuery is getting all those efforts. So I use the client side library at work. So my question is does this affect the UpdatePanel and it's client side events? The UpdatePanel control looks to be integrated into ASP.NET. I would prefer to not use it anyways because of well known performance issues, but my boss prefers it's simplicity

I'm looking for a good jQuery or CSS, or combo, library to enance my left side menu in an an intranet application. I don't like the 'hover only' expand/collapse style of the ASP.NET Menu control on its own, and I don't like the 'icon-click only' expand/collapse style of the TreeView control on its own.
I plan on trying the CSS Control Adapters, to render the menu with some self-respect, i.e. as nested <ul> or <ol> elements instead of the usual orgy of tables. Beyond that, I need something to give a bit of style and menulike behaviour to these nested lists, and I would prefer a jQuery plugin for this. Which should I use?

ASP.NET Ajax Library provides some client-side events. For instance:
Sys.Application.add_load(
function(args) {
// handle the end of any asynchronous post-back. Every-time there's
// a server round-trip, this method will be called.
}
);
During the asynchronous post-back I want to retrieve information to the client. This information must be available in some event like the discribed above.
Does the UpdatePanel or the ScriptManager have any server-side way to retrieve data back to client during an asynchronous post-back?

If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?
Update
My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.
