Jquery - Javascript Not Firing When Asp.net User Control Loads?
Mar 16, 2011
I am trying to fire a Javascript call when an ASP.net user control to an aspx page.
The Web site allows users to add user controls to a page (similar to adding a widget etc to a page like google widgets). But when the control is added the javascript does not fire, only if the page is refreshed will it fire the javascript. IF the next time the website is accessd and the controlis still there the javascript fires too.Do I need to use the RegisterClientScript method to register the call (setAutoTimer()) on the control load or OnPreRender event.In the User control I have this at the start of the ascx file:

I have a ASP.NET user control with the below markup:
<div>
<script id="myTemplate" type="text/x-jquery-tmpl">
<table id="t1"><tr>...<td class="myclass"><span>First Name:</span></td>...< r> < able>
</script>
<table id="t2"><tr>...<td class="myclass"><span>First Name:</span></td>...< r> < able>
<div>
I want to fire the hover() for all classes with class="myClass". I have placed the below code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".myClass").hover(
function() {
alert('in...');
},
function() {
alert('out...');
});
}
The problem is .hover() fires for td element in table "t2" but not for "t1".

I have a control which has an ImageButton which is tied to an OnClick event... Upon clicking this control, a postback is performed and the event handler is not called. AutoEventWireup is set to true, and I've double checked spelling etc.... We haven't touched this control in over a year and it has been working fine until a couple of weeks ago.
We have made changes to controls which load this control... so I'm wondering, what kind of changes could we have made to stop this event handler from being called? There is quite a bit of Javascript going on, so this could be the culprit too...

I am loading in a user control on page load and events are never firing. The user control loads fine with the correct information. it contains two dropdowns and an
calendar control. The dropdown selection changed event is never fired. I am not sure if there is something wrong while control is being rendered.

I have a user control, which is added to another user control. The nested user control is built up of a GridView, an image button and a link button. The nested user control is added to the outer control as a collection object based upon the results bound to the GridView.
The problem that I have is that my link button doesn't work. I click on it and the event doesn't fire. Even adding a break point was not reached. As the nested user control is added a number of times, I have set image button to have unique ids and also the link button. Whilst image button works correctly with its JavaScript. The link button needs to fire an event in the code behind, but despite all my efforts, I can't make it work. I am adding the link button to the control dynamically. Below is the relevant code that I am using:

I have a link button which is part of my user control. Further, the control is actually added to the control dynamically. Whilst, I can see the control, and is added to the page without any visible errors, but when I click on to fire an event which on that user control nothing happens. What is even more odd, if I add a break point to event, and then click in debug mode, I can't even reach the break point!
To try and resolve this, I have tried giving the link button ids, and ensured they unique, added override using OnInit and used the createchildcontrols method, but nothing seems to work!

I am using the following code to load user control on to ASPX Page, which under a Master Page:
[Code]....
The user control name is passed as a parameter on the URL.
Inside the user, there is a LinkButton. The link button has a simple server side code for OnClick event.
Everything is working fine on the production machine, but, on the Development machine, I can see incorrect behaviour. I have started making some development changes on the Development Machine since several months back, and it will be very difficult to find out what caused the problem.
When I click the LinkButton inside the user control, the user control is removed from the parent page, and the OnClick event of the LinkButton is not firing.
I did debug, and found out that after I click on the LinkButton inside the user control, then the Page Load events for the master page and the ASPX page are working fine, and the IsPostBack is set to true, but the OnClick event of the LinkButton is not firing.

I have a aspx page, default.aspx, with an user control in it. Inside the user control (UC 1) there is a DataGrid. When the DataGrid is loading data with ItemDataBound, I need to dynamically load another user control (UC 2) for each row in the DataGrid. UC 2 has a Button ( BTN )with an eventhandler associated with it in code behind.
User control loading is fine, and the Button, BTN, is there. However, when I click the Button, the eventhandler is not reached, not firing, even though the page does postback. I googled for this issues, and I know the dynamically loaded user controls need to be loaded every time the page is postback. In my case, it needs to be loaded each time the datagrid is doing ItemDataBound. I did it and even hook up the eventhandler with button click event each time when the user control is dynamically loaded. I set EnableViewState to true on the Page and controls.
The following is part of the code from UC 1, AcctPaymentDetail is UC 2 in the code.
[Code]....
And the following is UC 2 the is being loaded:

I have a templated user control with single instance template attribute. It works great for everything except the following scenario:
[Code]....
The folder selector uses a tree view that allows people to select a folder, its FolderSelected event works perfectly and the file selector updates with the files. The file selector has a repeater that lists the files in the selected directory. It has a linkbutton for each of the files so that the user can select a file. The problem is that the ItemCommand event of the repeater doesn't fire when the file name is clicked on. The page performs the async postback like it should, but in debug, the method to handle the itemcommand event is never hit. On the same user control to select files there is a button that the user can add files to the folder. When it is clicked, the event DOES fire and the file is added and the control refreshes in the update panel, everything perfect. It seems that because the linkbutton is already in a templated control (which is in a user control, in a templated control), the event isn't firing correctly. I am confused as to why this should be a problem, especially since all the other events (even the custom ones) fire as long as they aren't in another templated control. Since the code is complicated, I didn't want to post it all here.

I have a simple search user control that consists of a textbox. The textbox's onchanged event appends the entered text to another page address and response.redirects to that page. The target page reads the query parameter and displays the results. Works great the first time a search term is entered. The problem comes if I immediately enter another search term, instead of refreshing the search results page with the new query parameter, it jumps back to my default.aspx page. I'm not sure where its getting that as an address to redirect to, the only control with default.aspx as a target is a imagebutton on my master page. I've tried turing off the autopostback on the textbox but it didn't help the problem.
Here's the search user control

In my global.asax file for my ASP.net project, I am checking for certain conditions. When those conditions are met, I want to automatically execute javascript code when the page runs.
This is my code:
if condition Then
Response.Write(" < script type=""text/javascript"" > ")
Response.Write(" // Javascript code to do stuff ")
Response.Write(" < /script > ")
End If
While this appears to work to execute the Javascript code, I don't think it's a best practice because this code will preceed all of the HTML of the page that gets loaded.
What is the best way of programmatically tacking on some extra Javascript code to be run when my page loads?

I'm trying to update values from a xml file into textboxes. I have this javascript being called in the Page_Load event
this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Script", sb.ToString(), true);
I click the continue button which does a post back but the values are not updated until I refresh the page again which makes me think the js isn't being run until after the page is returned. I'm wondering how to have the values updated when the page is refreshed after the button postback.

I am creating a browsergame in ASP.NET (using AJAX, jQuery, ect. - NO Flash). In this game I need to play some sound files. Right now I have those files as .WAV, but if the solution can play .MP3, that is preferred.I have several events during the game which need sounds: You hit the monster, you die, you level up, ect. The page is based upon update panels, which means I will have to add several sounds (and replay them at specific events) without a postback. As some of the sounds is replayed every 3-5th second and others are played way more rare, it has to be efficient to this requirement.What would be the best and most efficient solution to solve this? :-)

Now the weird thing is I have a user control UserControl1 in which I put some JavaScrdipt logic there, and I have another user control UserControl2 and I registered both in the page called Page1.aspx.I would like to call the JavaScript function resided in UserControl1 from UserControl2, however, I got an error saying the function is not defined. I think both user controls are loaded before I use them then I think the JavaScript function can been seen anyway in that page.

I want to run a javascript function when the page loads. But as my page derives from the master page there is no form . The is my aspx file
<%@ Page Title="" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/Site.Master" AutoEventWireup="false"
CodeFile="test3.aspx.vb" Inherits="test3" %>
<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent" runat="Server">
<script language="javascript">
var m_Names = new Array();
function LoadArray() {
PageMethods.Load_Array(onSucceeded, onFailed);
}
function onSucceeded(result, userContext, methodName) {
m_Names = result;
}
function onFailed(error, userContext, methodName) {
alert("An error occurred")
}
</script>
</asp:Content>
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="Server">
<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true">
</asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:TextBox ID="txt_model_code" runat="server"></asp:TextBox><br />
<br />
<input type="button" value="db Function" /><br />
</asp:Content>
I want to run the LoadArray() function initialy when the page loads. This function is calling a pagemethod given in aspx.vb code file..
Partial Class test3
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()>
Public Shared Function Load_Array() As String()
Dim Model_Name_old As String()()
Dim mod_code As String()
Dim mod_name As String()
Dim cod_upper As Integer
//calling webservice that retunrs a jagged array
Dim ins As New localhost_insert_model.dbModel
Model_Name_old = ins.get_Model_Name("A")
mod_code = Model_Name_old(0)
mod_name = Model_Name_old(1)
Return mod_name
End Function
End Class
So how can i load the javascrip LoadArray() function onPageLoad in this scenario?

As per Yahoo's guidelines for performance of web sites , javascripts should be combined in one to avoid extra http request , as i saw in YSlow asp.net loads 3 to 4 scripts one for MicrosoftAjax.js , one for microsoft MicrosoftAjaxForms.js & some other 2 which may tondle postbacks & client side validations , I want these 4 js to be in one.

I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration...I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page.The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers.However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on.What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss.

I have the function put here like below:
$(document).ready(function () {
UserControlNameInit();
});
The script are put in the following and the block is in the .ascx page.
<script type="text/javascript">
</script>
However, the function UserControlNameInit() does not run when the page loads. It is showing in the page source. I can still call this function through FireBug console by manually typing the name of the function.
I did the same way with other user controls, and it works. Just 1-3 user controls are not working...

I am using ModalPopupExtender
to pop up messages, on the page when form loads.
The problem now is before the form completes it's load. If I do click on any buttons on the page, the ModatPoupExtender pops out. and then when I close it, the page freezes.

I don't need to run the function every time the page loads!!
But, I would like to have the control when the function is to be called.
The only way I thought of is calling my function with OnLoad in the body tag and having a hidden field to be checked and then run the script accordingly.
e.g:
<body onload="ScrollToView();">
Is there a better way? For example, running the function from Page_InitComplete handler?

We have a function that changes the iframe height at the window.onload event so we can adjust it to the page contents. The problem is that after clicking in an asp:menu the height its restored to its default and the window.onload event doesnt fire...so we need the event that would fire in subsequent loads (tried window.unload but didnt trigger)
The resize function cant be called on the asp:menu click because the window wouldnt have finished loading so the height calculation would fail...
