To Create A Search Textbox For Users To Enter A Few Keywords In?
Feb 19, 2010
I want to create a seach textbox for users to enter a few keywords in ,..and then my sql query will display the results......( basically a little search engine for my website)Ok so im thinking of using the Containstable with ranking on how close these keywords are to eachother... so the closer the keywords are to each other... the higher their ranking will be.... but I also want to seach for these keywords in 4 columns in one Datatable how can I do this
What's the best method to allow a user to search in a specific field for a record(s) containing the keywords they enter into a textbox? I am considering using the streamreader to obatin the values from textbox into an array, so I can build dynamic query using the stringbuilder. Is there a cleaner or more efficient method to approach this common search functionality?
Basically I have a Search Text Box with a LinkButton Control on which the click event is fired. now what i want is when the user type keywords and press enter the Click event got fired. So No Javascript Only ASP.NET With VB.NET v2.0
I saw on the google when search "code project", some keywords and a text field and a button to search that google has generated for "code project" keyword also for "manchester university" in the same way.
How is it possible to show key words and text field/button for our website on google? As it shows for "code project" and "manchester university" etc.
visit google and search "manchester university" u'll see:
StudentNet Job Opportunities PostGraduate StaffNet etc.. and textfield/ and a button
I want this kind of result for my site from Google!!
I build a serach function just using SelectCommand and SelectParameters, i.e.
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:mprojectConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [publication] WHERE ((([character] LIKE '%' + @character + '%') AND ([type] = @type)) OR(([f11623] LIKE '%' + @f11623 + '%') AND ([type] = @type)) OR (([f1character] LIKE '%' + @f1character + '%') AND ([type] = @type)) OR(([nortonoxfordnumber] LIKE '%' + @nortonoxfordnumber + '%') AND ([type] = @type)) OR (([nortonoxfordtext] LIKE '%' + @nortonoxfordtext + '%') AND ([type] = @type)))"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="character" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="f11623" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="f1character" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="nortonoxfordnumber" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="TextBox1" Name="nortonoxfordtext" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="DropDownList1" Name="type" PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>
I am also using a dropdown box and a textbox for people to search within a particular area from the dropdown list.
Now, I would like to be able to highlight the keywords in my gridview table. I searched around on the Internet and found a lot of samples, but they are all related to the Gridview <templates>, however, I am using <BoundField> and sqlDataSource.
I just cound not figure out how can I add this highlight function to my current search function?
I'm creating a search box control including 1 textbox, 1 button.
What I want is textbox has the value "Type here..." initially, then if I put focus on that textbox, the value would disappear, and it show off when it lose focus like Google search box
I've done with that, but one problem arised, that is when i type new value to textbox and hit the button, for demonstration I add new Label and assign the value I just typed in to it but it didn't work. The value always is "Type here...".
I have a web page with 3 search fields on it, each with a different submit button. When using the enter button on the keyboard to submit any of them, an incorrect action is being performed, although with the mouse it's fine. Any ideas why this is happening? The rendered HTML as requested below:
I have a text box and users are entering na rather than supplying the specified data. How can explicitly not allow them to enter na in the field? I want to use an asp regularexpressionvalidator.
how can i separate words in db column separated by enter key. I am entering data in a multi line textbox directly to db, and i want to search a word in that column. Since the words are seperated by enter key, how can i separate the words to search. If i use like i can't search the exact word is there..
I have a textfield () in my homepage for a searchstring. Normaly I have a text like "enter here to searach..." in it. Now I will clear the box from the text when a user click into it.
I'm creating an "edit-your-profile-page" and I need to know how to keep the values that the users has enter between page loads. Error controls and stuff like that.
RegularExpresssoinValidator. I want to use it in a field where users enter URLs. I not only want to make sure that it's a valid URL but I also want to make sure that it's only those sites that are allowed.Let's say, I want my users to enter only YouTube or CNN URLs. How do I use the RegularExpressionValidator for this?
I am using the TabContainer control on my page.. i have 3 tabpanels within it that are used for 3 different types of searches..After meeting with the client yesterday it was brought to our attention that once you complete the fields you want to search on and hit enter nothing happens..Is there a way to enable the enter key for the buttons? And if there is, can it be setup so it triggers the correct button? I say this because on the page, even though there are 3 tabs each with their own submit button. Outside of the tabcontainer, we have another button that is used to save the search criteria for later use. So on the page there are 4 submit buttons
I am having trouble with something, my client wants to be able to hit <enter> as well as click the button on this page:-
[URL]
If you look at the Blue "Postcode search" and try searching for a nursery byb clicking the button you will see how it works. However then try doing the same but hitting <enter> and see what happens..
The front end html is as follows:-
PHP Code:
[code]....
I tried adding javascript so it would recognize the button and allow users to hit enter but this did not work.
User will be entering % data in textbox. I am now using filter textbox extender to allow only numbers and .(ie decimal values). I also want the user to enter values from say 1 to 100 only.. How can i do this? If user wants to enter 0.5%?
I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.
Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:
[code]....
So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
I have a situation where in I need to allow the users to enter email address of yahoo only in a free textbox. Can any one let me know how do I achieve this? For E.g: If the user supplies the email id as "xxxx@yahoo.com or xxx_xx@yahoo.com, or xxx.xx@yahoo.co.uk or xxxx_yy@yahoo.co.us", I will permit him for further processing. If the user inputs the email id as "xxx@gmail.com or xxx@rediffmail.com orxxx@someothermail.com" I should display an Error Message.
I need to let my users enter a variable length list of items into something that looks like a grid view (or a series of standard text boxes stacked vertically). Each item could be a few characters or a few hundred characters long, and I just want them to enter a "sentence", and then tab to the next row, and always having another blank one ready to go at the bottom of the list.
I don't want to save any data to my SQL Server DB until they enter the entire list and then click on a "save all" button. When they hit the "save all" button they will be given a preview screen where the data will be presented as standard HTML ordered list. If they confirm/save, then each row of the grid will then be saved as a separate row into my SQL Server database (with an index to remember the order). What ASP.Net (or Jquery/javascript) UI control would be the best to use in this situation? (i.e. just for the data entry part - the rest I got covered).
