Webforms - Search Field Enter Button
Feb 10, 2011
I have a web page with 3 search fields on it, each with a different submit button. When using the enter button on the keyboard to submit any of them, an incorrect action is being performed, although with the mouse it's fine. Any ideas why this is happening? The rendered HTML as requested below:

What's the best method to allow a user to search in a specific field for a record(s) containing the keywords they enter into a textbox? I am considering using the streamreader to obatin the values from textbox into an array, so I can build dynamic query using the stringbuilder. Is there a cleaner or more efficient method to approach this common search functionality?

I am using the TabContainer control on my page.. i have 3 tabpanels within it that are used for 3 different types of searches..After meeting with the client yesterday it was brought to our attention that once you complete the fields you want to search on and hit enter nothing happens..Is there a way to enable the enter key for the buttons? And if there is, can it be setup so it triggers the correct button? I say this because on the page, even though there are 3 tabs each with their own submit button. Outside of the tabcontainer, we have
another button that is used to save the search criteria for later use. So on the page there are 4 submit buttons

As a newbie coming from a Java background with tag libraries I wonder if there is a simple possibility to render areas depending on backend values. For example if I have search form I do not want to render the table for the search results as long as the user hasn't pressed the search button. Of course I can iterate over the model containing an empty list but this does not allow to suppress rendering the whole table.Using web forms I would just control the visibility of the affected tag(s) in the code behind file but how do I do this with ASP.NET MVC?Can I use a partital view for a case like this? But I think I would have the same problem. How can I determine if a partial view is rendered (e.g. the whole result table with header)?

I wanted to a window to pop up when the user clicks on an image. In the pop window, i want to display a text box to search and a button to submit the search. Also on the same pop up, i want to use a radiobutton list to give the option of choosing to search by first name or last name.on searching, i want to display a list of employee names matching the search and give a radio button next to each of them to select the record. On selection, the user will click an OK button below the records. On clicking OK, the pop up window should close and the employee id of the employee selected should be visible in the text box next to the image.Does anyone have an idea of how to do this, because i am not too sure that i have explained it properly.

I have this search interface that I work out through the use of a odalpopupextender and a panel. I used GridView in displaying all the customers. I enable the paging attribute of GridView control and I limit the total number of rows to be displayed. Now I have a three (3) page of the GridView control to browse. It is quite annoying that if a certain customer is located on the second page of the GridView control, the search interface window closes and so therefore I need to click again on the search button to display the search interface.

i have searched this forum about this pbm. But People posted about Dynamic Image Button .. In my case, this is a static design only. I have a login page with image button as the Login button. I set Panel's Default button to that image button. onclick event Sometime fires, sometime not firing when pressing enter on the password field..If this happens once, then even if i click on the Image button also, the event is not firing.. but the form is post acking....Strange! i have removed panel's default button and wrote this line instead on page_load..
[Code]....
Still, the same pbm persists. Even i click on the imagebutton without pressing enter key also, the same pbm comes sometimes...I couldnt trace why.

In the txtPosition TextBox the user is entering a number and press the Enter key which launch the "HandleAttribute" event as if the client had click on the "imgbtnUp" ImageButton.

On my Search page, I have a search textbox, four drop-down lists and a "Search" button. If I use only the drop-down lists and click the "Search" button, results are immediately returned. However, if I enter text into the textbox and click the "Search" button, nothing happens until I click the "Search" button a SECOND time. The processes that occur for the latter scenario are as follows:Text entered into textbox, and Search button clicked:On FIRST click attempt:
1. Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load for Search.aspx is called
2. Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load for Main.Master.vb is called
3. Process stops! No results
On SECOND click attempt:
3. Protected Sub SearchSubmit(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btSearch.Click for Search.aspx is called
4. Search continues and completes.
So, why will the 3rd step not kick in until clicking Search for a second time
[Code]....
If I reach this last Sub, everything else beyond this works fine.

I have been alerted to the Query Extender control through previous posts, but I am still seeking the final part of my desired solution.
NB the following is written in conceptual English (programming specification) format, rather than actual asp code.
While I fully understand that I can use the QueryExtender control to pass a parameter from one web page to another, I do not see, and maybe this is not even possible, how I can pass a parameter of which field I want to select on.
Ideally I would like to be able to implement a query which is
SELECT tiles where 'Passed Variable Name' contains 'Passed Test Value'
such as would then generate, for example -
[code]....
I have only mentioned three in the concept above but there are actually about half a dozen different calling pages, and there could develop a few more over time.
