I am trying to add a .aspx page in the project , but while adding the .aspx page i am not getting the option to choose existing master pages. I remember long back i used to get that option to select the master page.
View 2 RepliesI am having menus on the left side of the master page.I am also having the html pages related to the menu link. Based on the menu selection i would like to show the corresponding html pages as a content to the right side of the master page.
The html pages shoud need to be shown just like the other webforms are shown on the right side of the master page pased on the menu selection.
I am adding text fields to a page from the database. I set the .ID to match the record ID from the database. Of course becasue the text field is on the masterpage, when I grab the .ClientID, it is ctl00 contentMain$ctl00. what I don't get is where is my ID? If I set it to say AB how do I find the textbox by AB? I thought it should have AB in the ID somewhere. ID is nothing which I don't get either. I'm looping through the controls in a placeholder like this

Again though what is in the row() is say AB but the id is way off from that.
how can i add title and meta tags for content pages in a project base on master and content page(dinamically) ?

I published a project called TestSample which has 2 pages page1.aspx and page2.aspx and application dll Test.dll in bin folder.
what i need is, i want to create a new page called page3.aspx and page3.aspx.cs through programmatically which is done by file stream object, my need is to publish this page3.aspx to the TestSample virtual directory and also page3.aspx.cs has to be merged with Test.dll so that code behind should be avoided.
I am trying to deploy an ASP.NET 3.5 Web Application to my production server and I am using the Web Deployment Project for this purpose. I have a folder named MasterPages in the root of the application which contains all the master page files. When I build this project in the release mode and deploy it on to the server I am getting the below error message:
Directory 'C:inetpubwwwrootMasterPages' does not exist. Failed to start monitoring file changes.
I am using ASP.NET AJAX and the ToolkitScriptManager is on the master pages. I have noticed that the MasterPages folder is missing from the release build.

I am using VWD 2005 Express and every time I try to create a nested master page, the select master option is not highlighted for selection.
This has never happened before so I wonder what in the world could be going on.

What I want to do is move this functionality to a BaseClass so All my pages inherit from the Base Class. However, I'm not sure how to set this up interms of c# code with regards to Using a Base Class and then having a masterpage applied to my aspx pages that i create.
View 5 RepliesI have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

However, changes (i.e. new images & alt. name) that I made in the Top level master page did not apply to the second or third levels.My webpage has a correct front page but not in the sections. How can i correct this ?

Can other project areas use one master page? Or does each have to have their own master page?
What about the web.config file? Does each area need the config file? Or does it rely on the master?

Per different user mode, some pages should not be accessible by users unless they have a valid session key.In your opinions -- would it be better to have a list of acceptable pages in the master page, and check if the current page is valid for the current user? Or handle this on every child page?I'm thinking master page, just want to hear what your input would be.

I have seen numerous posts with this problem, however none of the solutions have worked for me. I am using asp.net 4.0 forms authentication. I have the following set in my config file.

The login.aspx page uses a master page and styles in a stylesheet located in a folder off the root directory called 'Styles'. I have also add the following to my config file.

When the page displays, the login page displays with the master page content, however all of the styles are missing. When I embed styles into the master page the styles show properly, so I know the problem is that the styles are not being accessed from the file. how I can authorize access to the stylesheet?
I have an asp.net content page which is used inside of a master page (with header, menu and some links). I would like to reuse it in a different context without the master page (to not display the header and menu there), or with an empty master page if this is somehow possible. I don't want to violate DRY principle by taking the whole page and creating a standalone clone of it for obvious reasons. Is this somehow possible ?

This works by placing the content page specific title on the page ("My Page" in this example). Now I want to add a global prefix to the title in my master page for the site name. So I want:

However, when I do this content pages are still rendered without "Example.com" in the tile, it's like it's ignored.
Why is this happening and how can I achieve this?
We have two projects. One is in MVC and the other is the traditional Asp.Net project. We are trying to share a common Master Page for both the projects. The Master page for the MVC project is already using a form tag with runat="server" attribute because it's using a traditional ASP.Net control for the navigation menu. The ContentPlaceHolder is outside this form.

View 1 RepliesI have had this problem for a long time now and have just dealt with it but i am at the point finally that i need a solution or i need to look at other options besides visual studio for web development. it is way too time consuming now to have to worry about changing one thing and then having to search all other pages to be sure they are still fine. So this is what i have: visual studio 2008 pro sp1 asp.net web application targeting .net framework 3.5
a master page with several tables. i have broken out into several tables because it seemed to help the issue. the tables are all stacked on top of each other, no special positioning. the tables seem to be fine for the most part but if i make changes to the table which contains the content placeholder, i will find other pages have formatting incorrect, such as backcolor of text in different areas changed, bulleted lists are overlapping. when navigating to some pages, one of the tables i have at the top that is not related to the table with the content placeholdder, will not show the background picture, and it will show either different font size of the menu that is in the table with the content placeholder, or bold font on other buttons text, such as link button, on the master page.
so they seem to affect each other. changes on the master page affect the other pages and when displaying the other pages, whether in a browser in the IDE, parts of the master page will be affected. this is only on certain pages and they are never consistent. they will stay consistent once changed, but each time i make a change to the master page, the pages which are affected are not consistent. However, it used to be a issue that was always consistent with certain pages i kept in their own folder. i had taken the time once to go through them and make fixes and after that i didn't really have any more issues. but now they are being affected again as well as others.
i had started using link buttons instead of hyperlinks because it seemed to not affect the other pages when formatting them. for instance i would highlight the backcolor of a link with yellow, and other pages text in random places would show with the same yellow backcolor. it does not seem to matter what any of the affected text is in whether in p or div, it doesn't seem to follow a pattern other than sometimes it does seem to favor text that is bold. i think in some ways it has to do with new content pages i add to the site. those seem to be the ones that are usually affected for sure. but there are always others and i never know for sure which ones they will be.
Can a page inherit multiple master pages?(ASP.NET)
